Aliens: Fireteam - Bug Hunt-All

I don't want to get too excited for this one seeing as how past Aliens games with good looking trailers but no actual game-play are more common than actually decent Aliens games, but damn this one looks good!

I don't think you should wear short sleeves when fighting creatures with acid blood. Probably wont help when you get drenched but it might help with small drops that fly out when hitting one in the face with a shotgun blast.

I also don't understand why pizza sometimes burns the roof of your mouth. Why doesn't it burn your tongue or cheeks. Also why doesn't it consistently burn the roof of your mouth. I do know if you dropped a hot slice of pizza on your arm it is better for you if you are wearing long sleeves. You don't want to go to the doctor and explain how hot cheese burned your arms, best just to tell them some alien blood got on you.

Thinking how it melted through metal in 3 nothing will protect you from that. At least you can be comfortable and look cool with your sleeves rolled up while you fight!

So are we thinking Left 4 Dead but it’s aliens? Or something different. Really hope this doesn’t suck.

In the meantime, you can just play Alien Swarm on steam. Old, free game that's essentially Aliens but without the movie license.

I didn't see any mechanics in the video beyond shooting waves of aliens. I hope there's a lot more to it. I'm surprised that all these years later nobody has come up with superior mechanics to this kind of co-op than Left 4 Dead.

I think mass effect's multiplayer mod was better than left 4 dead. Or is that to different?

Part of what makes a good Aliens property is the tension that comes from a quiet buildup. I know it’s just a trailer, but that seems to be missing here.

Fool me once, Colonial Marines...

Similar but different. Left 4 Dead was about getting from Point A to Point B while Mass Effect was about basically just surviving in a smaller arena for a set number of waves. L4D was also more chaotic and ME3:MP was more tactical especially when working with a team at higher difficulty levels and using characters that had abilities that worked to compliment each other.

New pre-order trailer

25 minutes of gameplay with IGN:

Kind of weird that it’s only 3 person fireteams. Every military I’m aware of has four person fireteams. Surely they’ve not done that purely to reduce comparisons with Left 4 Dead?

Release date of August 24.

Please be good..

Maybe it just hard to get more than 2 friends to jump on a game?

According to ACG, deep deep sale

reviews I've seen are: It's fun, it's repetitive after a while, bots are pretty bad. For $40, might still pick this up.

Yep, ultimately, it's just their opinion. I have seen additional and better reviews as well

Will be on at 9:30pm EST tonight on Steam if anyone's interested in joining.

I think I'm going to risk it as well at $40.

Wasn't sure the game would have a thread, so here's what I posted on the front page "Week Ahead" comments section.

I did snag Fireteam and gave it a spin, though only up to the first checkpoint of the first mission. It's definitely not full blown AAA production values but it felt more like what I wanted in a co-op horde game than Back 4 Blood did, and that was just testing the waters in single-player. I have some friends now interested in grabbing it so I'm looking forward to playing it more in co-op.

Can't speak for everyone since a lot of folks in the Back 4 Blood beta were also specifically looking for a versus mode, which Fireteam does not have, but what time I played of Fireteam went from "hrm, guess I'll check this out a bit, I'll refund it if it's a bust" to "oh yeah I'm playing this with friends, it'll be a good time, wonder how much the horde and difficulty levels will do for extended play time".

Unfortunately I didn't play enough to say why I found it so fun, though. That first map is mostly drones, with some spitters, prowlers, and fighters running in to shake things up. You can tell when you're about to fight a bunch because explosive barrels are everywhere. I think, for me, it was constantly using class abilities whenever they were available, the nature of the xenos to run along walls and ceilings and find multiple paths to try and flank, and noting how obvious the game's feedback was for power-ups and kills that made reading the action swift and easy. It lacks production value but doesn't feel unpolished, is the best I can say.

I'd recommend anyone curious, or perhaps burned by the Back 4 Blood beta and interested in co-op horde games, check it out on Steam. If the first 30 minutes doesn't get you, take advantage of the refund policy and get your money back.

"Gets repetitive" would count towards Left 4 Dead as well, wouldn't it? That's definitely something in the eye of the beholder. I'm not saying they're wrong, either, just that these sorts of games are more about the moment-to-moment gameplay being fun rather than constantly changing the game mechanics up. Perhaps it comes down to level design? I'd have to see. There's a Horde mode included as well in case you don't want to do missions, just bug hunt. Either way, my first impression was positive, but I also feel like I'm willing to overlook the lack of production in certain spaces. It's still not the Aliens game we've all dreamed of, I'm sure, but what I played was quite fun.

There's no terror in this game, but honestly, I'm not going into this as an Aliens fan. I think the xenos are a nice coat of paint over it all, but if I were to be my curmudgeonly self that only recognizes the first three as canon (YES THREE) then I'd be flipping out about effectively making Action Figure Aliens that spit and stuff and acknowledging Prometheus. So, better to just play it as a horde game with a recognizable coat of paint with nostalgic sound effects.

But let's be real, James Cameron turned aliens into an action flick, and while there were elements of horror in there still, it's his fault everyone wants to keep doing the whole bad ass colonial marine thing over and over and over and over and over....

Heck man, it ate through several layers of the Nostromo in the first film. Stuff's no joke.

So obviously it only does minor continuous damage when you walk through it in the game.

I mean, it's years after the first 3 movies, maybe they've invented better boots?

Playing again tonight, 9:30pm EST. Will be on Discord.

I’ve bought this on Xbox and you can’t connect with random people online. You can only invite or play with bots. Not very impressed.

Sounds like the perfect multiplayer co-op game to me

I just don't understand that dev choice when games do that.

I need to double check, but when I briefly played I saw that things were set to "public" before I started a mission. I immediately set it to private specifically so I wouldn't get match-made. Does leaving it "public" not automatically turn on match-making?

It’s not meant to be like that. If you set it to public it just says the game is full and dumps you back in the hub instead of queuing.

Well that's pretty bad. Looking online, the developer's best solution (other than "play with friends", which is kind of a bad piece of advice) is to exit and re-enter so that it resets the "session" for matchmaking.

I'd say an alternative is to get a refund and wait until the developers have patched it.

Weird. I'm playing on Steam and I get matched with randoms by default. There are no voice comms by default, which kinda sucks. But I imagine that's different on Xbox/PS?

I'm in a Facebook group for the game and it seems like all the Xbox people are having this issue. PS4 and PC seem to be fine. I'm on PC and haven't had any issues.

Managed to to get a squad together in the looking for group posts but we had multiple disconnects before the game started. Once we were in it worked fine.
