Guild Wars 2 Catch All

Just a note that the first EoD beta event starts tomorrow, August 17th. A chance to preview the Virtuoso (mesmer), Harbinger (necro) and Willbender (guardian) specs. You don't need to have pre-purchased to join the event.

Well I finally reinstalled this week. Amazon Prime Gaming was giving out a mount and some items, plus a few more things over the next month, so I figured why not.

Got overwhelmed with 4 or 5 character anniversary gifts, including level up items. Naturally I clicked one and went from 40-60 on my main. Haha, probably not the best idea. Since I haven't played in so long I really don't know what I'm doing, more than usual. But oh well.

Will I actually play? We'll see. Inventory was crammed full of stuff. Looks like those other level up items are there for other characters in the mail boxes too. I guess I can just leave them there for a while? Since I don't have enough bag space.

It shouldn’t really matter since you can’t “out-level” content, if you’re above the recommended level for an area the game scales you down to the recommended level until you leave the area.

Stele, if you don't have enough bag space, I'm more than happy to provide bigger bags (18-20 slots), if you need them. They're easy enough to craft.

In my experience, the fast leveling issue is in bypassing learning certain mechanics, not in the actual difficulty. When I come back from a hiatus, I work with my various weapons and skills and builds until I’m confident again. That can be done in a lower area for safety. You’ll know when you are comfortable again.

Another option is do a couple handful of rounds in pvp which will force you to learn the high end mechanics without downsides

Thanks, Eleima. I'll consider whether I'm actually going to play. Looks like I have 4 characters. I swear I only remember the 2 that are above level 20 but apparently I made 2 more that are in their teens.

I need to login to those 2 and see what the situation is. Also I feel like my 2nd character might have been my bag crafter since she had a 6 or 8 slot bag sitting there in inventory. But I don't remember enough about crafting, going to have to look some things up again.

I think my main had a few 12 slot bags, definitely more space than the other character but also nearly double the levels. But opening all those anniversary mail items dumped a ton of stuff. And some of it is items that you open and give more items. Also after I used that level up item, I have all of my levels to claim in the corner. I clicked a couple of those and started getting items. Realized if I continue clicking that I'm going to run out if space haha.

So a little research to figure out what I was doing and make a plan, and then yeah I might need a bag or two.

There's also another prime gift coming this month and 2 more in September. So maybe one of those will have some bags?

Good ideas, all.

I also considered starting a new character to get some tutorial going and remember the basics.

I did read the quick start and some things sounded familiar. Your first few skills changing with what weapon you have equipped and stuff. But man it's been at least 4 years. Just can't remember much deeper. And no recollection of what else each class does. Main is elementalist.

There was some popup when I logged into my guardian about powers changing and how it tried to give me a similar build. Lots to figure out.

In that case, I suggest starting a new character in a class you don’t have and just playing it up, to get the basics back. Less tedious than trying to remember crafting and such by messing around.

Pvp is your answer for everything, isn't it?

Unlikely. I just claimed the first gift, and those ingame bonuses were "meh" at best. Offer stands if you change your mind.

And you might want to try something sturdier than the elementalist, they're super squishy and can be tricky. My elementalist was my main until I hit Heart of Thorns, and then I switched to Ranger/Mesmer, to be frank. There's no bad choice, though, of course, so whatever works for you is fine.

Because it tends to have the best results

Elementalist is my least favorite because it's too much like playing WoW.

A lot of the gift items are less useful than they appear- they just give you an armor/weapon skin and allow you to switch to it (once) without using a transmutation charge.

My main is a necromancer; they're a lot less squishy than light armor characters normally are, and the two current endgame specs play very differently so there's variety there.

15-slot bags cost almost background-noise amounts of money so accept as many as you like

I never played WoW, so that's not really a problem for me.

Fixed that for me. The 20-slot runes are expensive, there's diminishing returns in the jump from 18 to 20, but for me, spending the 2 gold on the rune isn't that big of a deal at this poing.

Yeah I think I messed up opening some of those wardrobe options on my late level 30s gear that will be replaced, oh well.

Looked back through the 2015 parts of this thread where I was playing and sort of remember some stuff, haha. Logged back in and opened all the crafting material free items and then sent those to storage. So that freed up a few slots. Sold off some gear I was wearing because I had some low 40s stuff to replace it. Inventory is a little more manageable now. Maybe tonight I'll actually try to do a quest and remember how to fight haha.

Or maybe I will do new character. Looks like I had elementalist, guardian, Necro, and engineer. Not sure why I didn't try a thief or ranger but those could be fun to relearn what I'm doing. Only one slot left so we'll see.

Just a lot of confusion, can't remember what my plan was for leveling. And after clicking that level up item I have more points to apply I think but don't remember what the heck I was doing. I'd guess there's respec but I would love to not screw it up the first time. Really just no clue what I'm doing in several facets of the game. So maybe something new until it starts to feel familiar.

Oh I did have one 18 slot bag, so maybe from Eleima before? And a couple other 8s that I might have crafted myself. Looks like tailor is what I was doing on the elementalist. Still only like 30 in crafting so not sure when I can make bigger bags myself. That's another total mystery, how to craft.

There really shouldn't be any "plan" for leveling, since you can swap out skills willy nilly once you've unlocked them. Maybe you mean the order you unlock the skills in?
And it's unlikely that 18 slot bag was me. When I do bags, I roll out junk bag, craft bag, and invis bag as a complete set.

I came back a few months ago and would recommend the new character approach. You’ll level rather quickly especially when you start getting exp boosts as rewards.

They’ve changed leveling so it’s really hard to screw up (you’ll get enough points to unlock all the main traits and skills by 80). If you want to look for leveling builds though I would recommend Wooden Potatoes on YouTube and the Metabattle website.

Finally, if you don’t have one yet the Ranger is a fantastic class to get back in the swing of things.

I've been enjoying completing the various 'Return to ...' side-stories and revisiting some of the collections I didn't complete last time around. They've been quite lucrative too with all the mystic coin and map rewards. I just unlocked the EoD precursor item and I'm saving the 250 of each LS4 map currencies for the Skyscale saddle.

With the talk about bags, there are a few easy collections (such as Uncanny Canner) that award 20 slot bags and the 20 slot pails are farmable from the Halloween festival which shouldn't be too far away? Not something you'd do while levelling maybe but good to do when you can get around to them.

Hm, well the next Amazon Gaming thing is 50% off code for the last two expansions. So $15 instead of $30.

Prime Gaming finally revealed their last Guild Wars 2 reward. It's a Heroic Edition copy of the game. If you already don't own it, free game. If you do have the game already, 18-slot bag, and some other goodies.

Reinstalled this after many a year - I shall dive back in this weekend !

I long ago lost my account to this game after a move and a change of internet providers and now my old email that I signed up with no longer exists.

Does this offer get access to everything in the game, or are there expansions, etc. that I'd need to get too?

This is tempting me to dive in again, but also I'm worried my memories of my old account will haunt me- I recall one of my characters had a mace that looked like a disco ball that I was quite proud of, and many of my characters were decked out in full legendary armor, and one had 100% map completion that I got when I reached my final waypoint after a 4 hour battle to take a rival servers fort on the multiplayer map- so to start over from scratch seems daunting.

Oh nooooo! Tacit, have you tried reaching out to customer support to recover the account? Maybe if you have enough info, they’d be able to do so… I remember that legendary mace, it was sweet as heck.

Hooray, welcome back!

They should be able to recover it if you have something like a CC on file or some such.

The grind for the flying mount is ridiculous. I was enjoying having to track down all the various items and locations but I’m at the point now where you have to buy stuff with map currencies and it’s taking days and days of just running around doing nothing but random events and searching for caches and it’s definitely hit the point where it’s starting to feel like a job.

For the skyscale map currencies there a couple of options. You can do the Return to … achievements which give you a stack of each currency as a tier 3 reward, but also award mystic coins or weapon skins and so are worthwhile doing. You can also farm the ice currency in Bjjora Marches and convert that to LS4 currencies using karma.

Honestly it’s not that bad if you treat it as a longer term thing. Mix it up and work on the skyscale alongside other shorter goals.

Alternatively, you can also ask me on a daily basis to let you into my home instance where I've unlocked almost every node under the sun (between 8pm and midnight CET, aka 2pm - 6pm EST). It'll help a little by adding another trickle. (DM'ing me on Discord is a reliable way to get a hold of me)

The only problem with re-activating one's account--as I have just done--means that I have no earthly idea what any of my characters should be doing. Maybe I'll hunt down a summary on YouTube that might point me in the right direction, or at least show me my options.

I also got a Heroic Edition key via Twitch. Is that something I can share with a new GWJ player?
