Genshin Impact Gacha-of-the-Wild All

I know we like talking about all the combat meta aspects of characters, but ultimately, this is all that matters. Yoimiya may be on the weaker end of the 5* units, but it's clear that she performs just fine in general.

Here's your monthly PSA: The only difficult content in Genshin Impact is Spiral Abyss. Even then, only floors 11 and 12 require strong teams to full star clear. Don't feel like you have to skip out on a character just because they aren't a meta pick unless that's a priority for you.

Part of what's holding me back from rolling on Yoimiya is that I don't have a good weapon for her. I never lucked into a Rust. I know the new craftable bow isn't bad, but its passive means you lose damage by using your burst. I'm not interested in that. I'll let her banner cook and see what people have to say next week.

Yep. Agreed. But it is funny how the "fear of missing out" seems to cut both ways. "I don't want to miss out on this character" vs. "maybe I should skip now because the next character might be better". But between the Welkin and Battle Pass and event rewards, I personally might have enough to pull a 5-star on each banner- it's just a matter of winning the 50/50s.

That said, I'm also agreed it might be best to wait and see what people are saying about her after they've had the chance to experiment more with her.

I'm in no hurry at the moment- in part because I just raised Ayaka and her weapons (and I'm still raising her talents) and now I'm raising Sayu. So I'll wait until I build up a cushion of mora, XP books and other materials before I try to add any new characters to my roster.

My Sucrose "only" has 350 EM and I'm very impressed with her damage.

Yours must hit like the devil...

EM on my Sucrose is right around 660 too. If I ever get an EM venerer sands instead of the ER one I'm running on her, I could push it to around 800. She would annihilate things then. I mostly use her to proc the venerer set and swirl reactions, but sometimes I get lazy and leave her in to just kill things herself, haha.

Oof, finally got around to doing the new abyss.

I got over confident cruising to nine stars on floors 9 through 11 with more ease than ever before, but man, floor 12 knocked me back down a peg. Managed six stars -- two for each chamber -- but I'm not sure I'm interested in even trying to grab one more star on 12-1, let alone push through the other two. (Oddly, though, this time 12-3 seemed the easiest to reach the timer on, but by then I was sick of retrying and just walked away with my two star clear after an attempt or two.)

Also Me:
I got Yoimiya this weekend!! I beat the 50/50 on pull 76 into pity.

I am (as I knew I'd be) currently very low in mora, XP books and ascension materials trying to level her up to 80.

But the thing that hurts the most is I'm just realizing I'm very low on boss materials. All 3 characters- Ayaka, Sayu and Yoimiya use the drops from the Azhdaha weekly boss for talent levels 7 and up. I've only got two drops left from Azhdaha after leveling Ayaka's talents pretty high. So it's going to be weeks (or months) before I'm able to get all 3 characters talents as high as I'd like them.

Please pray that I get the drops I need (and/or lots of dream solvents) so I can get my needed talents to 8 or 9 ASAP.

Right now for me the most satisfying thing in this game is to dash up to some unsuspecting enemies, hit Ayaka's E and watch as she whips out her fan and shouts "My apologizes!" as the enemies shoot up into the air.

I made a comment under a Yoimyia comparison video on Youtube that I pulled for the character because I didn't have any other 5-star pyro dps characters on my account. It got at least 4 people replying to it saying that since Xiangling exists and is given to every player for free, that there's no reason to pull for such a "sh*tty" character as Yoimyia- one user even when so far as to spell her name as "Yoish*ta".

But by that logic, there's no reason to pull for HuTau or Diluc, since in the video they all were clearing the same content within seconds of each other. It's not like Diluc kills a boss in seconds, while Yoimiya makes you struggle forever before losing the fight...

It's amazing how people can get so worked up about somebody else enjoying something that they don't.

Sad, but not surprising. Youtube comments don't seem to be a very good place for thoughtful discussion in my experience.

Tenten did end up making a video for Yoimiya. The headline is harsh, but as he says in the intro, his analysis is to be viewed purely from a meta perspective. She's totally fine for general play and even clearing the Abyss. There are just better options if you're trying to min-max.

He did point out several additional issues with her that I hadn't seen yet, such as the fact that a large chunk of her damage is back-loaded on the 5th hit of her auto attack string, so you miss out on a lot of her damage if you dodge early or are interrupted. So much about the design of her elemental burst seems unnecessarily restrictive. Why doesn't her elemental burst snapshot buffs like all other deployable skills? Why does it have ICD, and why can't she proc it herself? It seems like Mihoyo was afraid of making a new 5* pyro character too powerful and went a little overboard on the limitations. Perhaps she could receive some future buffs similarly to the lackluster release Zhongli.

I did find the bit about attack speed buffs fascinating. Does anyone here have a C2 Jean? If they introduce future support characters with attack speed buffs, that could drastically buff her damage output.

I've been playing with my C4 Yanfei a lot the last couple weeks and have been enjoying her quite a bit. It looks like Yoimiya plays somewhat similarly, so I think I'll be passing on her initial banner.

Ooooh! Ooooh! Ooooh! I do!

I hadn't tried that combo out until just now, because I've been running around with Sayu, but my level 80 Yoimiya and Jean just cleared 8 of 9 stars on floor 11 of the Spiral Abyss (and could have gotten 9 of 9 except my B-team was slow in taking down the Pyro-hyposatus).

The other thing I saw is if you have a C6 Fischl, when Oz is on the field it will attack every time your character does- so Yoimiya + C6 Fischl = OP. Unfortunately my Fischl is only C3.

While you can't bring it out as often, remember that the Electro Traveler's Burst hits enemies with electro with every regular or charged attack for any character you switch to. Had I accidentally gotten Yoimiya, it was a combo I was thinking of testing out, given my Fischl is only C2.

I saw on Twitter that the code GENSHINGIFT is working again for some people. It said it redeemed successfully for me on my phone, but I won’t be able to confirm that it worked in game until tonight.

That's the anniversary gift? I guess the rumors that they were going to be pulling out the big generosity guns weren't true. I was at least hoping to see some additional 5* characters added to the standard wish banner.

It said successfully redeemed for me too, but I can't log in to check now either.

Edit: I just checked. It doesn't look like the GENSHINGIFT redeem gave me anything.

I'm home and I didn't get anything from using GENSHINGIFT again either. Oh well.

Also, I know this is purely cosmetic, but have they said anything about the exclusive gliders?

I know that there was a Chinese exclusive collab with KFC where they could get a red and white glider, and that it was supposed to become available to everyone in July. Also I swear I saw something about how the PS4 glider would also be unlocked for everyone at some point. Neither seems to be coming true.

Started playing again yesterday, after like 9+ months. Spent all my saved currency on wishes (which might have been a mistake after reading the last page here... but eh).
Got my first 5star, Yoimiya, apparently one of the weakest :/ Also pulled out Diona, Xingqui, and some others.

Started lvling up Yoimiya and Xingqui before seeing that she might be on the weaker side. Trying to figure out what setup might be worth going for.
Last time I played I was focusing on Xianling and the main character.

Got Yoimiya C0, Xingqui C0, Barbara C1, Xiangling C1, Sucrose C2, Kaeya C0, Xinyan C3, Lisa C0, Noelle C0, Ningguang C1, Beidou C0, Diona C0, Yanfei C0.
Anyone able to see some obvious synergies in that roster?

I honestly don't think Yoimiya is one of the weakest 5 stars. She can do a lot of single target damage very fast.

Pairing her with Xingqiu is pretty fun. Especially if you happen to have sacrificial sword for him (or get one in the future). Once you get his burst up, you can switch to Yoimiya and start her E ability. Then every arrow hits with pyro and hydro. People will complain that because of her internal cooldown she doesn't proc vaporize with every hit, but she procs it on her 1st, 3rd, and 5th, which is still pretty good.

It's been a while since I used Kaeya but he'd be decent with Xingqiu in freezing things. And then I would look into investing in Diona because she has a shield and heals.

Xiangling and Sucrose are also both pretty good investments. I personally haven't built Ningguang or Beidou, but they both have good offensive and defensive abilities and would be worth investing in if you like their playstyles.

I don't know what adventure rank/world level you're at, but I'd say just try some of them out and stick with the ones you enjoy playing with the most. Every character you have can be good (but I'd say that Barbara and Noelle might be the two that are least effective in the later game, though).

Don't let all the doomsaying about Yoimiya get you down -- while she's not an amazing meta busting character, and admittedly is probably lower in the 5 star tier list, she's still totally fine and good. Mostly that relative weakness just means you might have to invest a bit more resources into her than other characters before you're able to clear the hardest of combat challenges in the game with her than you would with other character, but despite what Reddit and YouTube might lead you to believe, that's an INCREDIBLY small part of the game and doesn't matter all that much other than potentially earning one or two more free pulls every couple weeks.

It's much better to have characters that you find fun to play and whose aesthetics appeal to you -- that's what's going to make the game enjoyable, not being able to get full star ratings on every floor of the Abyss for every cycle. As I've said a few times in the last few pages, if I wasn't already stacked on pyro DPS units, I would totally have rolled for her, because she's among my favorite character designs in the game.

So, more good news! Xingqiu is an ideal teammate for Yoimiya (or most other pyro DPS characters) -- his skill does tons of damage, and his burst is the king of enabling the vaporize reaction for pyro units. The big trick, though, is you need to overcome his energy problems to be able to burst on cooldown. What generally is done for him is to give him a Sacrificial Sword. If you don't have one of those, a Favonius Sword is also a decent option.

So, some good team options from what you've got:

Yoimiya, Xingqiu, Sucrose/maybe Anemo Traveler, Diona/Barbara

A pretty solid base option for exploration. You'll have what you need for most puzzles, you'll have healing, and (once you've got the ability to farm the Viridescent Veneerer set for your anemo character) you'll have strong debuff and grouping. Barbara is here as a healer option to keep the elemental reactions clean and to provide a little extra energy for Xingqiu, but Diona is probably the better choice -- she is a much stronger utility player, and her shield will be VERY helpful in getting Yoimiya to the end of her attack string where her best damage happens. Also, she'll be much more broadly useful for a wider number of teams in general. (If you do get ahold of Bennett, though, he's the healer you REALLY want on this team. And many others. Bennett is obscenely good.)

Yoimiya, Xingqiu, Kaeya, Diona

This is a bit messier in terms of reactions than a pyro/hydro/anemo team would be, but it's potentially much stronger, especially if you have a Sacrificial Bow for Diona to help with Kaeya's energy problems.

Yoimiya, Xiangling, Sucrose, Diona

This is a comp that just focuses on pure pyro damage -- Diona is just there for utility, but you'll get a few bonus melts as well. You'll want a VV set for Sucrose as soon as you can get one, since the debuff that will provide will be very strong here.

Ningguang, Geo Traveler, Xiangling/Xingqiu/Kaeya/Beidou, Diona

A non Yoimiya option for a second team or just for variety. Ningguang gets much stronger as a carry at later constellations, but she's always pretty solid, and the geo resonance is MUCH better than it was a launch. The third slot there is basically any strong off field damage dealer who can drop a deployable elemental effect and then get out of the way -- all of them will need to have care put into their energy generation issues, but will add a lot when done properly. Since you have Diona to battery for him, Kaeya is probably the easiest choice here. Beidou might be a bit of a stretch, but I do include her here because she's a bit of a sleeper -- her energy issues are bad, but ESPECIALLY if you get her to C2, her burst hits like a fire truck as long as there's more than one enemy on the field for it to bounce between.

Yoimiya, Beidou, (Fischl)/(Raiden), Diona/(Bennett)/(Jean)/Xingqiu if you're brave!

Speaking of Beidou, here's comp where she'll really shine, if you manage to get one of the characters for the third slot.

Thanks. Lots of information to digest

Tscott wrote:

Adventure rank 26/world rank 2.

Replacing Barbara (used her for my desperate healing neeeds!) with Diona.
Yoimiya, Xingui, Xiangling in the other spots right now. Will try to get Sucrose up I guess, but burning through my XP items already

I'll also add that while Barbara is generally outclassed by Diona, I still like Barbara as a comfort pick for exploration. The fact that her heal is deployable and non-energy reliant means you never have to think about your health while exploring. Plus, her healing scales with HP instead of attack/crit, so she doesn't compete with any other characters you own for gear.

Barbara is also an amazing holder for Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers, one of the best support weapons in the game. It's a 3*, I'd be very surprised if you don't have several copies by now. Refine that as high as it'll go and slap it on Barbara if you're using her. Sucrose can also make good use it. You just have to get used to swapping to that character before Yoimiya so she gets the buff.

When it comes to XP, you can safely level characters up to 20, or maybe even 40 before worrying about wasting XP for them. The way to 50 or 60 is where the requirements start to scale hard enough that you need to start thinking about your resources more carefully.

Yeah not doing too well without Barbaras healing currently. Taking too much dmg, from... everything.

A couple other exploration considerations. Be prepared to swap either Beidou or Noelle into your team when you need to mine for some of the harder ores (Crystal Chunks, etc.). They don't have to be built up, any level of Claymore user can break them with a few hits.

Also, once you get to the Liyue areas, there are a number of puzzles that involve pressure plates, etc. that will require the geo version of the main character- specifically their E ability. Again they don't have to be built up- you can swap them in and out as needed.

Finally, one very unfortunate thing that I just realized about your Yoimiya is that to ascend her past level 20 you'll need resources from Inazuma (the newest area of the game). I think you need to complete the Liyue story quests before you can access that area. So unfortunately she may need to be put on hold at some point until you get those resources.

Tscott wrote:

Yeah, I realized that yesterday. Quite annoying.

Edit; Eh, I mean, lvl 40, she can pass 20 just fine. I believe the mats needed for 20 were sold from the vendor in town.

Cool. I wasn't aware they added that item to a vendor. Nice that you can get to 40 at least.

I'm pretty sure the way you received them was from the reward for her Test Run. This is why, as of 2.0, they started adding ascension materials as part of the rewards.

I'm not sure what newer players are supposed to do when they pull a Inazuma 4-star from the standard banner after this patch. I wonder if they might rework the Wanderlust Invocation to only include characters from chapters you have started beyond the first (Liyue).

Hm, that could be. I am pretty sure some of it came from a vendor, but it needed multiple stuff, so could very well be both.

Edit; Yeah, the Naku Weed was from test run. Got some gem, agnidus agate silver, from a vendor.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow and the start of the Leylines Overflow event. For 7 days, we'll be able to get double rewards for completing the XP book or Mora Leylines - up to 3 times a day. I'm currently at level 88 with my Yoimiya with a level 86 Amos Bow, and I need all the resources I can get to finish her off and get a start on resources for the next banner.
