Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

I'm just pretending Silksong isn't a real game until it shows up again somewhere. I don't think we're seeing another glimpse until 2022.

Bleh. Nothing interested me in that direct. Everything looked so boring to play.

Right now the only thing I want out of my Switch is to be able to play the PC games that are currently eating my life (Binding of Isaac Repentance and Rogue Legacy 2) in bed.

I'm really excited by the JSRF knock off. Even if it's a ways out.

No love for Axiom Verge 2 releasing later today?

Nice to have a list of games I can ignore. My backlog is big enough. So in that sense it was a great presentation.

Yeah like 6 games releasing today. That one seemed huge. Lots of people loved the first.

If I hadn't bought Loop Hero on PC already I'd get it immediately. Awesome game.

Edit: Metal Slug Tactics looked cool too. I love SRPGs. Got to keep an eye on that one.

What all is releasing today?

NoA Twitter has all the links.

Axiom Verge 2
Necrobarista
Boyfriend Dungeon

are all out already. There were 2 or 3 more right in a row with those where they said releasing later today.

Edit: Islanders Console Edition
Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon
Garden Story

all coming today

I’ll buy Loop Hero when it’s available.

I remember when Nintendo threads were the one bastion of positivity on this forum.

Anyway:

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.

I thought for sure Axiom Verge 2 releasing today would be a big hit with folks, but I guess everyone forgot about the first already? I know for me, I love the look of Metal Slug Tactics.

I never played the first Axiom Verge. What kind of game is it?

I got right up to the end of Axiom Verge 1 before I finally gave up on it. Really fun, interesting gameplay. I'm certainly going to pick up AV2, probably on the Epic Game Store though.

Metal Slug Tactics looks just fantastic. I'm not really big on turn-based tactical games like that, but I'll definitely keep an eye on it, and probably end up drunk-buying it some night when it's on sale.

Metroidvania with emphasis on Metroid.

Wow, lots of stuff I'm interested in.

Loop Hero on Switch? Nice!

Garden Story, maybe. Looks too derivative.

Axiom Verge 2 is a must play for me. Really enjoyed the original.

Islanders has a good rep on PC.

Tetris Effect? Uh, yes.

Slime Rancher is cool, though I have no idea how it'll run when it brings the PS4 to its knees in late game.

Curious Expedition 2 stealth launch on Switch? Yes! This I am buying today.

Eastward could be good and the Shovel Knight thingy looks cool.

This was a bunch of homeruns for me. Too bad I'll never get around to half of these. And assuming performance isn't awful. Can't wait for Switch 2. I do hope they do another Switch before whatever hardware they come up with next.

Garden Story looked too delightful to pass up, so I bought that as well as Islanders.

I really liked Islanders on PC, and it should translate well to the Switch.
Easily worth $5.00

The Metal Slug series is one of my all time favorite arcade games. I am all in on Metal Slug Tactics.

I think Metal Slug Tactics looks nice.

Plus, after slogging my way through what felt like hours of uninteresting dialogue in the Project Triangle Strategy demo last week, a tactics game with a simpler premise sounds pretty nice.

I could never put my finger on why but Axiom Verge rubbed me the wrong way. I bounced off after a few hours. Trailer for the second one does, too.

This was me. But on the other hand Metroidvanias tend to really annoy me. The backtracking/getting lost/not knowing what to do or where to go next really irritates me in games. Probably why I am not all that into Metroidvanias, I suppose.

Yeah, I bounced off Axiom Verse after a few hours too. The art style was off-putting and the level design was repetitive. We're in the Golden Age of Metroidvanias and Axiom Verge's mediocrity just doesn't cut it.

Axiom Verge is a bit cold compared to other Metroidvania's, but it's the neat glitchy weapons that make the game.

Backtracking is beyond awful in the game though. He really stuck to Metroid and Super Metroid's design for that stuff.

With all the Metroidvania choices out there I get where yall are coming from, but the original was a part of the beginning of the tidal wave.

I loved Super Metroid and Castlevania back in the day. I’m not fond of the genre now, though. As mentioned above, it’s the backtracking that keeps me away.

Already picked up Garden Story. Keen for Loop Hero when that comes out. I have Axiom Verge 1 in my backlog so if I like that I guess I'm excited for Axiom Verge 2. Very glad to see a release date for Eastward!

I was a little hopeful that we'd get Binding of Isaac Repentance dropped, but not surprised that we didn't. According to the dev they're still going for a Q3 release so hopefully it will come soon.

I struggled badly with Axiom Verge at the start, the art style was an eye sore & the general movement felt very floaty, with weak combat & boss battles. It was the exploration, manipulation of the world, along with an interesting story that ultimately made it an enjoyable game.

I bought Axiom Verge 2 a couple of nights back on the PS5, just to play it on a bigger screen this time & it's started very well.

General movement & jumping feels like there's actually a bit of weight behind them. The traversal is fleshed out with the ability to grab onto ledges or handholds in the environment, it actually makes a fairly big difference. The snow setting is not only more vibrant & detailed but better designed too, it's got far more character than the original in that sense.

The story has started fairly well, I like the singular straight forward motivation of the protagonist Indra getting to this base in the antarctic looking for her estranged daughter. It can then branch out from there & will probably get as weird as the first game.

The combat feels better but still a bit finicky at times, I think the melee style with the boomerang suits the game so far. The abilities have came by the handful in the first hour of play too. The music is on point & reinforces the sense of place in each area, there's one piece in particular that's so moody but I'll have to note it down next time I play to see what the area is called.

Oh yeah the font is a lot better in Axiom Verge 2, bigger & far more clear. That's always a win in any game.

Nintendo must release a Pro console now or they’re doomed.

Hahahaha

PSA: WarioWare demo out now

New Dread trailer

That's all I've got. Still waffling on whether to cancel my OLED preorder. Probably will.
