What are you playing this weekend?

I'd be really curious to read your thoughts on Koudelka. I tried playing it a few years ago, and gave up on it pretty quickly.

I'm about halfway through disc 2 (of 4) and am impressed by its ambition as well as intrigued by its setting. It's a mess though. Not unplayable, but its systems really needed some fleshing out. Also, the dialog is.... often rough, and parts of some puzzles can be missed super easily (really?? you put an object I can interact with BEHIND a save point that auto-initiates and is at the end of the traverseable area and still expect me to find it when it doesn't even stand out from the background??).

Maximum Face Achieved. Time to use that sweet sweet 40% discount to buy out all the vehicle vendors.

I had been continuing to work on The Witcher III. But family is in town, so I will be playing some Overcooked instead.

Someday I hope The Witcher III clicks with me. I’ve had about four false starts over the years.

That was me a few years ago. I just couldn't get over the combat and overwhelming mechanics of things. But I managed to push through this time. On the other hand, life is too short to spend on games that don't click. So it might just not be up your alley. I didn't think it would be up mine either after the failed start last time.

I blinked and ended up playing 10 hours of Loop Hero today.

It’s excellent while doing chores.

Played more today, and....holy hell it got dark! I knew I wasn't playing as good people (at least in the case 2 of the 3), but that fact suddenly became WAY more obvious.

Looks like I’ll be playing The Ascent for a bit.

I think what did it for me was the fact that fights were taking forever to beat. That, plus the low resolution of backgrounds made it hard to see where I was going. It's been a few years, there was probably more than that...

Anyway, this weekend, the plan is to (maybe) finish the intermission in Trails to Azure and (also maybe) finally beat LEGO Builder's Journey. Also possibly some Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

Just made it to Biome 3!

Mutant Year Zero suddenly up and ended on me so now I have to decide what to return to: Dark souls 3 dlc and finally face down that intimidating end boss or Subnautica where I built a mini-sub and immediately felt free to roam the depths in safety and comfort and, therefore, completely lost my drive to play on or Lonely Mountains Downhill that I’ve only just started but can tell I’ll have a great time with or even Far Cry: Primal that I’ve been dipping into in anticipation of the rather splendid looking Far Cry 6?

Whichever I pick I’ll hopefully also play some more Orcs Must Die 3 with Spikeout.

Mutant Year Zero developers released their futuristic follow up in the same style. Maybe a suggestion to check out a video.

I'm finding Splitgate to be a lot of fun.

Now that I have finished WH40K Battlesector, I have no idea what else I'm going to play.

The Mystic Ally Monk in Diablo 3 has been fun this new season. But it isn't really grabbing me for the long haul.

Oh thanks. I will.

Monster Hunter Stories and Tyranny. That's about the gist of it.

Definitely more The Ascent and a toss up between Ninja Gaiden Signa 2 or Nioh 2.

Started playing Carrion.

I really like how you can just MOVE in that game.

I loved that game. Really hoping for a sequel or DLC.

Well, I should be working on making a game this weekend, but we'll see if it turns out that way.

Otherwise, I'll be playing Yakuza: Like A Dragon. This one has totally reinvigorated my interest in the Yakuza series. So silly, so good.

I'm also playing Death's Door. It doesn't do anything that hasn't been done before, but it is very good at what it does. I see a lot of people saying it's like a cross between Dark Souls and/or Hollow Knight, plus Zelda, but the game it reminds me most of is Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles.

I also want to check out the update to New Pokemon Snap. I was surprised how much I liked this game, and I'm surprised that it's received a low-key, free, substantial update. And Dodgeball Academia has me intrigued. It seems like maybe it's the modern indie alternative to the Kunio-kun dodgeball games?

That's definitely too many games.

Sorry for being redundant. Mafia III. I think I’ll roll credits on it this weekend. The DLC doesn’t seem too special. I wonder if I’m close to 100%.

I think I finally figured out what game I want to make, so I will spend some time experimenting with the Godot engine again.

I also plan to play some more Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.

Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin since Psychonauts 2 is coming out later this month and continuing Half-Life: Alyx.

Mass Effect 3. I am really, really enjoying this - and much more than I thought I would since I think playing it back on the 360 I was very... whelmed by it. Maybe I was trying to judge it against Mass Effect 2 back then, but the combat is fast and engaging, the DLC is GREAT (which I never played originally), and it looks awesome. I also like how they brought back the ability to choose from a lot of different guns. I like shuffling equipment.

I'm worried about the ending though. but maybe it won't be as bad as people complained about. I don't remember being upset originally, but I also never got to see the "extended" ending, so I'm excited to see that too.

Either way, ME1 holds up worse than I remember, ME2 is still great, and ME3 is sneaking itself higher up the charts.

Continuing with my recent trend of revisiting games I didn't finish for one reason or another, I will be playing Infamous: Second Son, which I am thoroughly enjoying.

Going to stream Remnant: From the Ashes, and try out the Back 4 Blood beta with some friends. Hoping to fit in some FF14 and Bloodborne as well, but we'll see.

Jumping back into Subnautica. I've tried this twice before on the PS4. I ended up giving it another whirl because of the PS5 upgrade. Boy howdy....either they messed with some of the balancing, or I am just in a better headspace to appreciate it. I am obsessed with exploring, finding items and crafting stuff to stay alive. It is one of those games (like the Witcher 3 that I just watched credits roll on) where I am thinking about it every opportunity I have. I can't wait to get home and explore more.

My weekend is looking interesting for mixed reasons. One of my molars was broken during training last night and my dentist can see me until Monday... Thankfully there's not much pain there for now; just gotta make sure I keep the area clear. I also joined an online publication dedicated to covering MMA, BJJ and Traditional Martial Arts, so I get to cover a rather large tournament on Saturday. Now, what I really want to do is play games, and the idea is to play some Tyranny, Dragon Quest XI S, Monster Hunter Stories, and I have fallen into a Death's Door shaped hole that's very endearing. In this last pick, I am currently lost in some forest trying to figure out a dungeon and am frankly stumped; fighting the urge to look up a walkthrough but this is thinning by the minute.

More SWTOR this weekend. I've found myself having more fun with my Jedi Sage than I remembered with this class, so rather than parking them at the fleet once they've finished their class story, my Sage is now taking it to the Hutts (Ch4 - Rise of the Hutt Cartel).

I've got two new games, after clearing my RPG club games that I was playing in July. The big one I'll be playing is TROUBLESHOOTER: Abandoned Children, and Anime XCOM game with ridiculous amounts of customization and menus. I'm playing a little bit of Slipways as a satisfying short burst strategy game.
