NCAA Football 2021-22 Season

Here's something interesting: Twitter tells me that Texas and Oklahoma have approached the SEC about becoming members.

That raises the point about natural fit. To me, Arkansas and especially Missouri seem to be kind of force fit into the SEC regionally. Both lost regular rivalry games when joining. But they've been in long enough now that maybe that no longer matters anymore.

And Texas would have to accept that they are the wrong color orange and not the real UT to join. I can't see them making that concession. After all, Tennessee is called the Volunteer state initially because of when the state was requested to send 2,800 troops to TX for the Mexican American War, 30,000 showed up to help protect TX and avenge former Tennessean Davy Crockett.

Bobby Bowden, the greatest coach in NCAA history (fite me) has been diagnosed with a terminal condition.

He was a good man for FSU. Took us from the brink of closure to the heights of college football. He was an innovative coach and is a good all around person. We as a school we’re lucky to have him even if we did treat him a bit roughly on his way out the door

I’ve seen rumors that the SEC is looking at FSU (among others). I can see UF doing the same thing as TAMU

Rumor I heard on a sports radio show/podcast here (that's fairly connected and gets a lot of rumors that turn out to be real) is that the ACC came to Oklahoma and Texas first, which made them approach the SEC for the more lucrative deal. And that this has all been going on for months behind TAMU's back, and somebody at TAMU leaked it when they found out.

Who knows. Probably false, but it's fun to discuss in this boring period of college sports.

If we get stabbed in the back here, bring on Florida State, Miami, Clemson, Georgia Tech...hell, bring on LA Tdch, ULL, Troy and UAB!

I am personally thankful for Oklahoma and Texas’s efforts to reform the Big 8!

So that's WVU to ACC?

"Tortious interference." Remember about a week ago when Rachel Nichols' remarks that ended up with Maria Taylor running straight to NBC was the worst thing ever for ESPN?

The Big 12 isn't going to be able to stop this. They're just trying to get ESPN to pay them to offset some of the money the remaining schools are going to lose. This is just the first salvo in that effort.

So it seems like ESPN and the AAC have been in talks before the OU and Texas news leaked and it also seems like the AAC has been approaching Big 12 schools to come round out the AAC's membership at 16.

Chaos is indeed a ladder.

What the hell dies WVU have to offer the ACC? A mediocre football team? A basketball team that doesn’t rate with the other schools? An academicly inferior product?

Or are we assuming that Miami, UNC, and Pitt just want further inroads to the fertile recruiting ground that is The I79 corridor?

I dunno, WVU better than Cincinnati?

Just a couple of names tossed around lately. Feels like ACC will try for 16 somehow. Or 15+ND still.

Aggies all know the phrase "tortious interference" when Ken Starr and Baylor lobbed it around during our move. I want to be absolutely clear that had no merit then, but is absolutely chock full of merit in the case of the longhorns. Go Big 12!

Or as some are calling the scorned remaining teams, the Hateful Eight.

Big 12 now believes the American is attempting to take all eight remaining members. Earlier report said "3-5" Big 12 members were being solicited Bob Bowlsby told CBS Sports. Story up soon.

Absolutely nothing by the traditional metrics.

But it's a warm body, so welcome!

Tbh, I thought the conference lineups would be pretty stable for a good long while (except for ND's flirtation w the ACC). And now Texas and OU have to go and mix things up again. Eh, it's business, I guess.

The NCAA is collapsing in relevancy with what the Supreme Court said about NIL and the NCAA's lack of preparedness for the implementation of NIL for the players. They hadn't prepared for the states that passed laws favoring the players ahead of time, dependent on what the courts said. This combined with the necessary expansion of the football playoff is causing some strategy review from the conferences and the schools.

SEC just made the invitation official.

See, what you need to do Big 12, is rebrand as the SWC, bring back SMU, and then just embrace the most blatant cheating possible.

So the accusation is that after Texas and Oklahoma moved to the SEC for money reasons, the AAC is using ESPN to poach the remaining Big 8 teams to increase their prestige (money) and ESPN TV rights (money).

College football is hilariously corrupt. I am glad I don't actually care about the sport other than the hilarious entertainment and seeing Marshall get screwed because we, while corrupt, aren't corrupt enough.

Spoiler:

And that is because my Alma Mater is incompetent and not wealthy enough to do the big crimes, not some sort of weird moral high-ground.

This move can't happen soon enough, very excited to say Cal is 6-2 against the SEC since 2000. That's like 3 seasons worth of conference games and 2 trips to the national title game if you're actually in the SEC.

Most amusing, but if they weren't SEC at the time, you can't claim it.

Restatement: The mighty SEC adds teams that are a collective 1-3 against a bottom tier Pac-12 team to bolster its ranks of other teams that have gone 1-3 against that same team.

you're right that does sound better

And those teams will immediately become "quality wins/losses" because "it just means more"

I hereby pledge to never claim the longhorns as a quality win or loss - and I hope they're the doormat of the conference!

The Sooners, we'll see.

Imagine if Mack Brown was already in the SEC in 2004... "Yeah, we know those guys (Cal) had a great season, but we lost to Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia and our boys really deserve to go to the Rose Bowl".

Actually, that kinda sounds like every 4th place team in the SEC every year when it comes to the playoffs

LOL

I can't believe UT and A&M haven't played in 10 years. That's just silly.

(Not pointing fingers; just noting that, based on my experience as a former Texas resident, Texans are a damned stubborn lot.)

UT and A&M play all the time in the SEC already

Given the way the SEC schedules its conference games, maybe it'll be another 10 years before they do.
