Giant Bomb Bomb-All

I saw 8 new posts here and I thought someone had left GB. Then I remembered that there is nobody left to leave GB.

Nope, just people complaining about GB and everyone that left GB's new things.

That being said, the new Fire Escapecast that featured Nextlander was great.

My problem with Nextlander is Brad. I don't know how y'all complain about Dan when he's just being goofy most of the time, while Brad has shown himself to be an unmitigated asshole about things sometimes. But I love Vinny and Alex. So I'm trying.

Brad has Grumpy Old Man Syndrome sometimes, but what is he an asshole about? Dude at least understands what mayonnaise is.

The incident that sticks in my mind was a number of years ago during GOTY, where he dug in on a game being in the top ten because he liked it and no one else on the staff did (I think it was a Destiny expansion). He would not let them move on until they acknowledged it and let him get his way. It soured the mood in the room and they capitulated for the sake of moving on.

He’s not self aware enough to realize that his obsessive deep-dives into things like Destiny and DOTA are atypical and not reflective of a larger audience, and that he shouldn’t force that on his colleagues, especially editorially.

Oh god, I remember that. Yikes.

Nobody came out of the GOTY podcasts looking good.

I think it was Brad that got into a heated argument with Jeff about if a game should be considered a FPS. This was about a decade ago, so I could be wrong.

If it was a decade or a number of years ago, is it actually relevant?

Maybe.

If a good chunk of my workday for years was recorded I'm sure I'd slip up and be a jerk or unreasonable from time to time. Not saying the criticism isn't warranted I'm just saying that if I was in his shoes I'd hope for some grace from listeners. Everybody has bad moments, overreactions, and personality quirks that cause friction with others.

That being said, I always skip game of the year stuff (I'm too behind on games usually). I may be biased, I really like Brad. I think he can be curmudgeonly sometimes but he has a unique insight and I also dig the tech talks.

Even if I haven't agreed with Brad, I've at least understood and even empathized with his perspective. He also never cluelessly gushed about how awesome Vince MacManman is, so he'll always be above Dan.

I listen to both, it's pretty nice to have something new two evenings.

It's almost like the Nextlander podcast is just the Beastcast podcast with a different "rotating" chair. What has really changed aside from the hosts?

Trade update: GBE sent Jeff Bakalar to GB for Brad Shoemaker and rebranding rights.

That's basically when I dropped GB. And then Dan came and he's not my style.

Seems weird to hold a grudge from a GOTY discussion from 5+ years ago.

At least give Nextlander a listen. Brad hasn't dug his feet into the sand over anything (yet), but maybe that's because they haven't talked about DOTA or Destiny yet

Is “grudge” accurate? That seems like an unfair characterization. For me that particular GOTY discussion just turned me off of Brad. I listened to the show a while longer after that, but it definitely diminished him in my eyes.

Brad has talked a lot about DOTA over the last week but it's all in how toxic a game it is.

Grudge is probably the wrong word. I don't think you actually hate him for it.

Not at all. And like I said I listened for years after. It was just kind of a "yuck" moment to watch them actually fight and the reason they fought was so he could get his way when almost no one else agreed with him.

It always seemed to me that they all did that, that doing that was one of the running gags of the GotY process, and as I recall my experience with that particular time, I also recall thinking "Jesus, you all, it's just the 10th spot."

I am listening to Nextlander. Brad just grates against me. That incident is what turned him from yet another voice in the background to someone I actively dislike.

Alex had the opposite journey for me - I did not like him at first, but honestly, it wasn't because of him, it was because he was so isolated out east, and hadn't really been able to be a personality in the same way. I am 100% with Nextlander for Vinny and Alex.

I like Brad a tone even if he can be grating and barely any of his interests match mine. Like pretty much anyone, Vinny brings out the best in him. Any stream where the two of them are up to highjinks provides a bunch of laughs from me.

New show announced: The Very Online Show with Jeff Bakalar, Tamoor Hussain, and Lucy James.

This is just the announcement, the show comes out on Thursday. They do, however, play some Jackbox.

Also, if you haven’t watched Danny’s first episode of Guilty Treasures: Jeff Gerstmann and you have premium, it’s quite good.

Guilty Treasures makes me upset it’s only once a month. I understand why but it was a lot of fun.

What's The Very Online Show? Another podcast?

It's just another video feature like Grubb Snax or Borne to Run.

I still don't understand what those shows are supposed to be.
