FFXIV: catch all

Ohhh Red Mage looks fun. Once I get my Monk to 80 I might try Summoner/White Mage next, since healers seem to be much in need.

To save some confusion down the road. Arcanist can become Summoner or Scholar. Summoner is a DPS class and Scholar is a Healer. They share a level though so that's nice.

White Mage is a more straightforward healer than Scholar is, Scholar has a pet fairy that does extra stuff and a lot of their heals are weaker but add damage mitigation effects that can be turned into more powerful heals.

Ohhhhh, Scholar sounds fun too!

Boyfriend and I are playing opposite ends of that spectrum: my main healer is scholar, whereas his main DPS is summoner. We do not know how the other plays their class though, so one of my highest level DPS is a class I just do not yet understand (one day I'll sit with it, but my favored spellcasting DPS is black mage currently, especially with Fire IV).

I'm looking forward to trying Black Mage, but I think I'll level Summoner as my next DPS. I have Arcanist at 15 but want to finish leveling Dark Knight and Paladin first.

The hype for Dark Knight's job quests is real, btw.

Going in blind is pretty awesome, but there are assholes out there who will chew you out for dying. I stopped doing Shadowbringers MSQ for a few weeks because my rejection-sensitive dysphoria really kicked in after getting reamed by a healer (who straight-up told me I should have watched videos before coming in) for dying a few too many times as a bard in a dungeon.

That's really disappointing, especially from a healer (even though, in my experience, if someone's going to be pissy, it's going to be a healer most of the time). The risk taken for instant queues is potentially you're going to have to raise someone new a bunch of times.

DRK has the best questline, the best defensive ability (like, objectively) in TBN, and the most gratifying gap closer of all the tanks. I once used it to flip over Quetz's lightning domes, awesome.

I'll go against the grain here and say, while it's never okay to insult somebody over a game, most players do have an expectation that the party is at least minimally aware of the dungeon mechanics at higher levels. Because instances can take a decent chunk of time, it can be frustrating to have to restart multiple times. Nobody likes having their time wasted, especially when gaming time is at a premium as we get older.

MTQ capture has some fantastic dungeon and boss guides on YouTube that you can listen to during the queue, you can leave them minimized if you don't want spoilers. Some mechanics can be a little obtuse and difficult to grasp in the middle of a fight. It's perhaps the one thing I don't love about FFXIV. There's a very good chance some mechanics will leave you guessing unless you know approximately how they work from an external source.

And I get that. I was actually in the middle of reading a dungeon guide while queuing up, and the queue was unexpectedly quick, so I had only gotten to read the first half. MTQ does do awesome videos.

OTOH,

Sometimes, I can watch a video or read a guide, and it doesn't really *click* until I've played it once or twice. It's why I start out with "o/ first time, will probably die a bunch of times."

Yeah I always tell the party I'm new. So far everyone's been great about it.

Yeah absolutely. I recently took Gunbreaker to 80 and had no issues with toxicity when telling people it was my first time through those dungeons. I play on a largely Japanese realm, though, so text macros were most of my communication back and forth.

Perhaps I'm just ignorant to any toxicity, but the general vibe in this game is shockingly positive

Saying it's your 1st time is 100% the move to do, and people should be great about it. I'm absolutely the same sort of kinesthetic learner, dee, MTQ is a fantastic resource, but I'm going to be better after doing it.

If we switch the standard, A_Uni, from "high level" to "high end," I'm also in complete agreement. High end being things like Extremes and above, and maybe even regular tier Raids if you're a clutch position after, well, tbh, after MTQ can put out her guide, yes, when you join those you should have done some prep work. MSQ dungeons and trials, though, eh. The core problem where a healer can't handle one new DPS in those is way bigger than that one DPS.

This convo inspired me to make sure to do some lower level stuff daily, and today in Snowcloak I asked if the new people wanted tips, or just to go in blind, and I think it turned out well.

I moved to a new server to play with a friend.

And after a 2 years break, I'm lost !

I'm searching how to get the healer's robe for White Mage... I tried googling it, but Google-fu isn't good enough.

Can you guys points me in the right direction ?

Thanks !

EDIT: Seems I found it. It was from a quest, but needed to be level 50, compare to all other items which needed a lower level.

Ah, yes, the body piece in ARR is level 50. The good news is going forward when you get to the expansion's cap they just say "Here you go! It's a coffer with your whole new outfit!"

So there's a promotion if you gift four subs on specific Twitch channels, you'll get a chonky Chocobo. I couldn't not and OMG I LUFF HIM.

Oh, that's a nice recolor!

I bought the original (yellow) one when it was on sale sometime last year, and its spectacular. Every single animation is just perfect, from the silly wiggly way it jumps to the fact that in order to make it fly you change from a fishing poll with a cabbage to a second poll with cake as bait.

WAIT IT CAN FLY?

When you unlock flying, they all can fly.

Some may stretch credulity more than others, but it happens nonetheless.

OH MY GOD I HAD NO IDEA.

Yeah, this isn't Wow where only your flying mounts fly.

Here, pigs do indeed fly.

I got the version you get for being commended 3k times, and not only does it fly, there's a pretty wonderful way the rider convinces it to fly. I got mine around the same time this person I didn't think was all that great in the FC got it, they were so infuriated and I have no idea why.

And elephants...

I bought a flying bed mount off the market board the other day

I really want one of the whales.

And Unicorns !

The whales are from the Mogstation store, but the unicorn is absurdly easy to acquire.

Wooowwwwww

brb, levelling up conjurer, now that I'm finished achieving omnicrafter status on Monday

So I did the Praetorium this morning. Wow that took forever, especially with all the cutscenes, but it was neat, to be sure. Now I've unlocked flying! Can't wait to try it!

Yeah thankfully there aren't any dungeons like Castrum/Praetorium in the MSQ going forward. They're great for leveling and getting lots of Tomestones of Poetics though.

Speaking of which, Veloxi, you'll start earning those Poetics in level 50/60/70 dungeons, raids, etc. You can use those to buy level cap gear. The easiest way is to go by the vendors that should show up next to the main city Aetherytes now and pick up Ironworks gear. It's item level 130, and will carry you pretty far into Heavensward.

Ironworks gear, got it.

And yeah all the experienced players in the party this morning said those two dungeons are GREAT for what you mentioned, which is why they do them repeatedly.
