Yeah, agreed on Luca, it's not going to make you ugly cry or ponder the meaning of life, its goals are more modest but it delivers what it aims to do. The animation itself is bright, colorful, and makes me want to live in its world. It's just a fun breezy story that hits all its notes and doesn't wear out its welcome.

Agreed about Luca--cute, not amazing--except I am annoyed to learn there was an after-credit scene! Can we stop doing this already? Stupidly, part of my objection to this is I always feel compelled to go find them if I've missed them, and then when I watch it my reaction is "was that all?" A real "the food is terrible, and such small portions!" kind of problem. Streaming services need to add some sort of "skip to post credit scene" button like they do with TV show intros.

Thing is that they have that on Disney+. Just go watch a Marvel movie.

We enjoyed Raya and the Last Dragon. It wasn't earth-shattering but it was enjoyable.

I just finished the first episode of The Bad Batch and enjoyed it immensely.

Am I the only one finding The Bad Batch to be a little underwhelming? It’s the same people characters and plot lines from The Clone Wars and Rebels, and Omega is no Ahsoka Tano. It’s a bit boring to be honest.

The cameos are keeping me engaged. I generally enjoy each episode. Omega is an interesting character IMO. There may be some potential for her in future seasons.

It’s better than season one of Clone Wars and about as good as season one of Rebels. I’m not getting my hopes up, but this could turn into another great Filoni joint.

I like Bad Batch. I could see it being a slow burn for people.

Better than Resistance by far, though.

Anyone check out the new Monsters Inc show?

Was wondering if it’s similar in tone to the movies or is it directed toward younger audiences?

I watched the first two episodes. Seemed similar in tone to the movies, but overall it didn't really grab my attention. Not sure if I'll watch any more of it.

I do find it a little underwhelming, but only a little. I'm hoping that the reason for that is that they're trying to move things past Order 66 and its immediate consequences for the clones so they can start telling the more interesting story they hopefully have planned. Omega's not really any worse that Ashoka started out as.

Just finished Black Widow. It was OK. I would give it a middling score. Not the worst, but, for me, it is no Black Paanther or Winter Soldier. Now, that being said, I am glad it got pushed back as far as it did. I do not think that, if it had been filmed 10 years ago, that she would have been treated as well as they did in the movie.

If, like me, even superhero movies make you sad and tear up, the post-credits trailer will do it to you. (It did me.) It also sets up nicely to start watching

Spoiler:

Hawkeye

on Disney+ when it comes out.

I managed two episodes and wrote it off as one of those 'not for me' things. Felt like it was aimed squarely at a very young audience.

Talk in the Pixar thread is pretty meh. It's by Disney, not Pixar proper, and it shows.

Because they’re not outright manipulative trash about the writers’ regrets in life posing as kids shows?

No, that's there, it's simply not funny or fun.

I'm sorry; what?

Yeah, that's a scorching hot-take I've not seen leveled at Pixar before. If they are "manipulative" does that not also mean any tear-jerkers are also manipulative? What about horror movies with "cheap" jump-scares? I mean, if they make you cry or jump out of your seat, they must be doing something right, right?

Yes and yes.

Watched Jungle Cruise and it was as expected. I enjoyed it. Rock was the Rock. CGI bad dudes were CGI bad dudes. I didn't think there was anything amazing or horrible just straight down the middle. I thought for a second they would take the relationship trope in a different direction than usual but no.

Watched the first two episodes of Marvel's 616 and really enjoyed them. The first episodes goes in deep on Japanese Spider-man. He is more like a power ranger or ultraman. I already knew spider-man was completely different in Japan but didn't know why until now. The second episode was all about women in all areas of comics which was also very interesting. Probably the only downside if you can call it that the focus was also mixed with a strong Muslim, LGBTQ, and Black experience which could have been their own episodes. Of coarse I'm only watched two episode so maybe those gets their own episodes also.

It is going back to the money trough a bti but I liked Dug

Dug Days | Official Trailer | Disney

Cruella is now available for 'free' on Disney +.

When it came out, it seemed like there were good reviews from the "Disney can do no wrong" crowd and scathing reviews from most everyone else. But, I've always admired Emma Stone and I was curious and the kids wanted to see it. I went in with expectations calibrated somewhere a little below zero...

And I really liked it. Way better than I thought it was going to be. The cast is brilliant. The dialog is a janky, but Stone and Thompson and Strong and the rest of the supporting cast all sell their dialog. Stone and Thompson are totally compelling and own every scene they're in. The whole production design is amazing. The bones of the plot are simple and solid, even though it runs long and the pacing is inconsistent at times.

Star Wars: Visions is now available on Disney+. Nine standalone episodes, each about 20 minutes long, presented as a traditional Anime. Looks very neat.

Spoiler: English-subtitled Trailer

Spoiler: English-dubbed Trailer

H/T to Mantid for pointing it out on Discord.

Woohoo! Can't wait to watch.

First episode is pretty amazing!

I accidentally posted this in the Marvel thread, but Star Wars: Visions is leaving me very underwhelmed so far. A mediocre rock band that gets Boba Fett’s feet tapping? Yeah Right.

I like the idea, but it’s being wasted.

I watched 3 and a part of a 4th and just can't get into it.

I’m watching NEXT. I’m up to episode 7. It probably doesn’t make much sense if you think about it too much but it’s a fantastic ride so far.
