Star Wars: The Mandalorian

What I hate is that the right acts like they don't have cancel culture. Ooooookay. Donald Trump is the living embodiment of the worst aspects of cancel culture.

It's just tribalism and I'm so tired of this sh*t.

I know, right? The MAGAs are currently cancelling members of their own party for not being a Trump zealot. It’s extremely cultish if you ask me. Blind devotion and abject fealty? No thanks!

So say we all!

As far as what I'm conflicted about, I'm conflicted about seeing her in anything ever again, not that she did much acting before Mando but I enjoyed her in a couple of flicks. Oh well.

I mean, she didn't do much acting during Mando either.

You are wrinkling my brain. In the great Study Group argument of life, why am I always Troy?

I grit my teeth a little when I see the words “cancel culture”, so time for a meme.

Seriously, the Bible is filled with cancel culture.

Right, I meant she thought she was doing something noble with her career suicide.

She did commit career suicide. Shes reduced making movies for/with a dude who likely has severe brain damage from a one-two combo of catching severe covid while cold turkeying barbiturates. Theres a reason no one has seen benny shaps speaking in public in half a year.

interesting...

Cancel culture started as a concept from the left. It implied that if your behavior is abhorrent we will expect your fame and political platform to be rendered null and void. The right turned it around to mean that they are persecuted whites who are being discriminated against because of their racist, classist, fascist beliefs and public statements. So it’s kind of like, “duh?!?”

But then the right will claim censorship and free speech, yada yada, forgetting that free speech doesn’t exempt you from the potentially negative repercussions resulting from the horrific things which were said. It’s the same old song and dance.

Ask the Dixie Chicks about cancel culture.

I would imagine that it works similarly for them as it does with anyone.

Oh, yeah, exactly the same.

If you're credibly accused of sexual misconduct or abusive behavior, align with racist or white supremacist ideals publicly, display unabashed homophobia or transphobia, or encourage poor public health behavior during a global pandemic, you get canceled from the left.

Or, if you are doing a concert on the other side of the world and say you're embarrassed by the fact that George W. Bush is from Texas, you get canceled from the right.

So similar.

Did I say “exactly the same”? Nope. I did not. I said similar. And what you just described is similar. But in reverse. Or inverse. Or whatever synonym for opposite best fits here.

In the 1950s, if you were accused of being a communist, you'd lose your job and more. The left didn't create "cancel culture".

Might be worth starting a new thread in discussion and debates. We are starting to deviate from The Mandalorian.

This is cancel culture as well.

Spoiler:

Joking, of course

True but since we have to wait another 10 months for new episodes I figure it isn't stopping any important discussion about the show.

Yeah but seeing unread in a happy/fun thread then realizing its just more depressing sh*t sucks.

Plus, it's political talk, which has its own forum.

I haven't scrolled back far enough to see if this was discussed, but ....

Spoiler:

Was Grogu murdered by Kylo Ren? Did he join Kylo Ren?

Spoiler:

He’s the really short Knight of Ren. You can’t make him out in most scenes.

All joking aside, it’s a good question and I hope we get answers someday if only so the character isn’t completely left behind.

My assumption is that he'd already left Luke's acadamy and rejoined Mando long before Luke started training Ben.

They're out hanging in the outer rim or the beyond having fun adventures like Thrawn was.
Then they can bring them back whenever.
I also assume Luke kicks him out at some point for being annoyingly adorable.

Probably more likely he gets kicked out because he ate Luke's pet.

The Rancor.

I am not too sure. He is 50 at the time of the Mandolorean and those critters mature VERY slowly. Yoda wasn't a Jedi master until he turned 100. Assuming he spends 20 years at the academy, he would have been there when Kylo was as well.

Somehow the Emperor has returned Grogu escaped.

Somehow, I think he'll be fine.

Yeah. There is no way Disney goes that dark. They didn't even do an evil Jar Jar even though it would have rocked.

That assumes Luke has that 20 years worth of material to teach him. Grogu probably already knows more about using the force than Luke, he was in the jedi academy before it fell and it seems Yoda's race can instinctively use the force almost from birth. The main thing he needs Luke to teach him is how to resist the lure of the darkside, and Luke only has a few years headstart on him. Plus, as evidenced by his failure with Ben, his ability to teach that isn't exactly effective. Luke will do the best he can, but Grogu will probably need to seek out other mentors, and Mando can be his chauffeur.

Luke had Daddy issues, maybe Grogu won't because his adoptive dad isn't a loser like Anakin.
