What are you playing this weekend?

Pretty chill weekend:

  • LEGO Builder's Journey (PC) - I should be able to finish this one, as it's very short (but looks amazing with RTX enabled)
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider (PC) - Just going through the story, I will grab all the collectibles later
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure (PC) - I should be able to finish chapter 2

I've sunk a decent amount of time into The Evil Within 2. It's soooo good. I'm hooked. The production quality difference between it and the original reminds me of the difference between the first Mass Effect and the second. There's a lot more that I'm liking about it, but I'm sure I'll rant about it when the time comes. Suffice to say, so far it may be the best game I've played this year.

Yesssss! I'm so glad to hear you say that. Not to oversell it, but it ended up as my #2 in my Top 10 Games list last year. I hope you continue to enjoy it!

No need to worry about overselling it - I'm already sold!

They are Billions

Absolutely obsessed with this. It's a bit rough around the edges and could use some extra tech trees etc (or just one additional layer of buildings/towers) but it just hit that magic formula. I feel it's a bit like PUBG, in that it's far from perfect but the ratio of all those little bits comes together to form magic. It's been my go-to podcast game and I'm happy to start and restart over and over. I've beaten survival on "accessible" mode, so Im bumping up the difficulty slowly.

I'll likely stick to survival only as I've heard the campaign is not great.

Streets of Rage 4

I love arcade games, mostly shmups, racers, and light gun stuff. Despite this, I've never seen the appeal of beat-em-ups. They've always felt simplistic and dull - just coin eaters.

I feel that Streets of Rage 4 finally taught me the language of these games and I can appreciate them in a whole new way. This game is glorious. It's perfection. It's the Final Fantasy VII Remake of arcade games. Just wow.

Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Nearing the end. It's as charming as it is obtuse. I love the old-school charm, but I can only take so much of getting lost and confused. While NPCs are helpful and point you in the right direction sometimes, the encounter rate is WAY too high to truly explore the world and find the right place to be.

It's fantastic with a walkthrough, but needing that walkthrough is definitely watering down the experience for me. I think I'll be fonder of it once I finish it, because the initial story is just lovely. I enjoyed how the characters were each introduced through their own sub-stories, and this made returning to different parts of the map genuinely cozy. It's been my bedtime game

Received Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 last week, hooked me the same as it did back in the day, so more of that. Plus giving South Park Stick of Truth a try. Finally Into the Breach for Strategy Club.

Traveling again, so it's whatever's on my 2DS XL: OoT 3d, Super Mario 3D Land, Mario Kart 7, and maybe some SMT IV.

I've gotten stuck into 9th Dawn III.

Lots of top-down dungeon running, with crafting, fishing, mining, pets, and a card game that is very reminiscent of FF8's Triple Triad.

Although the animations are (charmingly) janky and the trailer makes the gameplay seem much more hectic than it has to be, its brand of numbers-go-up gameplay tickles my synapses in a very good way.

I'm playing through Dragon Quest III on the Switch and I'm having the exact same experience. I like the game, but the random encounters and labyrinth dungeons makes the game so tedious. I'm using a walkthrough and maps, but like you say that just waters down the experience. It's unfortunate that these great classic games are so flawed, but I think I'll be avoiding retro JRPGs in the future.

I did beat Dragon Quest IV back on the NES as a kid and I loved every second of it, but I had a lot more free time as a kid.

I watched credits roll on Life is Strange 2 a few days ago, so I am starting up The Witcher III. I played a handful of hours a while back, but fell off when I got frustrated with some of the controls. So I will be giving this another go and hope that it sits better with me.

More Persona 5 Royal for me. I'm only about 30 hours or so from finishing it!

Mass Effect 3

Just hosted the house party, already done the other DLCs, so just off to the Illusive Man's hideout (wherein one Kai Leng will be parting company with his tripes), then back to Earth for the grand finale.

Still not sure which ending to pick, my score is at about 8000 so they will all be available.

Going to play Trails from Zero since Geofront has been promoted to professional translators.
EDIT: Nope too hot to be playing upstairs in 100 degree weather. Mario and the Origami King.

Days Gone and something else...not sure yet

I grabbed Sekiro from the Steam sale and dipped my toes in ever so slightly. I'm really enjoying it but I'll try to abstain so I can move forward on other ninja business.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma - ccesarano has wrapped this up and has warned me about the trials and tribulations that await. Luckily, somewhat, I'm still fumbling my way through a key-collect-a-thon chapter in the midgame and won't be banging my head against the madness for another few hours, at least.

Warhammer40K Inquisitor: Martyr - has the new season started yet? I'm waiting for that new season. I may boot up to fool around on my Prophecy campaign.

King of Fighters XIII - had a fighting itch and suddenly looking forward to KOFXV. This is so cheap now I figured why not... One of the last sprite-based 2D fighters and it looks gorgeous.

I'm getting close to the end of Trails to Azure, so pretty much just that.

The new inquisitor season is to start within a few weeks.

Moar Metro Exodus

Finished the main campaign again last night so now it’s time to play the DLC campaigns for the first time.

If the Metro games succeed at one thing it’s making you hate “librarians”.

I'm trying to finish up Final Fantasy VII Remake. I don't have significant nostalgia for the original, but even so, its been quite enjoyable.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 We’ve recruited interesting party members, have done a quest, after much searching and got into a couple of great fights (and one where were annihilated but it was a fight set up a way that we weren’t expected to win.) I fell off the first D:OS so I was nervous about the same happening here but we’re really into it.

Getting in matches of Uncharted as always although the hyper-distilled player base is getting merciless.

Also, I seem to be playing STEEP again for some reason. I pick it back up every six months or so and it’s always improved.

Dragon Quest 11. Busy putting the band back together in Act 2 but there's this casino. Hit my first Jackpot for 200k and now I wanna just play one more until I can get all the uniques from the rewards.

Well, I'm on leave for the next few days, thanks to developing some very uncomfortable but not unexpected body ache and chills from getting vaccinated for the 'rona today. Once I'm able to not feel like I competed in an iron man gauntlet, I'll see if I can polish off OoT 3D, and when I finally get back home, I'll try and knock off Tyranny and The Alliance Alive from the crpg and jrpg clubs. Oh, and I'm missing DQXI's post-game, or much of it; that big bad not-so-optional boss is not gonna kick its own butt.

Spent the afternoon at the roulette table and finally hit a Max bet Jackpot. When I left off we were about to battle some shiny skeletal raiders in Snifleheim.

Long weekend! Happy Canada Day!

Far Cry 3 - I've always wanted to try the one that's set the template for the entire series as we know it today.
Ninja Gaiden Sigma - still plugging away. It's not so much out of joy anymore as it is out of a sense of duty and honour
Outriders - I saw a new update blip onto the PS4 dashboard the other day. Hmm, maybe I should blow the dust off this thing

*Wildcard* - whatever I end up impulsively buying from the Steam sale and installing.

I'll continue trying to poke at Warframe to see if it will hook me like I want it to (I'm only ~5 hours in, so I'm sure the claws are not even showing themselves yet).

I'll also continue chugging away at Mass Effect 2, which has held up very well over the decade+.

My continued obsession with Final Fantasy XIV Online should continue unabated this coming weekend.

Im going to try to polish off my platinum trophy in ME3

All the games and not the want recently. So will continue reading the newest Galaxy's Edge book and maybe a nice Dad Nap (tm) .

Happy Freedom Day and try not to burn down the country.

... figuring out why Dragon Quest 11 now crashes when I try to start it.

More Persona 5 Royal. Very close to the end now!

Very possibly, more Divinity: Original Sin 2. Last night we spent just over two hours on a fight against half a dozen people. It was the best time.

Still picking away at Assassin's Creed Valhalla, and helping some friends through Final Fantasy XIV. I'll be streaming Disco Elysium as well.
