New TV Season 2019-20

And it's been renewed for a second season.

American Gods was canceled. Not surprising considering the production problems and ever seasons bleeding off the best actors. I think they could have done the show in one season. There is a book and comic if you want to know how it ends but you can probably guess.

10 episodes would probably not be enough, but 16 seems doable. 2 seasons seems the sweet spot for me.

American Gods just had so many (useless) tangents and seemed to dragging its feet. Why didn't they just focused on adapting the book? Look to His Dark Materials for reference.

Evil's back. I'd forgotten how much fun season 1 was, especially the MRA thread's conclusion.

Yes, I love that show! Deserves more praise.

I signed up for Paramount+ just to watch Evil. Definitely hammy fun. The scene where Satan is sitting in the psychiatrist chair slayed me last season.

I JUST remembered what happened reading your post, and I started laughing.

Spoiler:

Do we think she REALLY killed the serial killer dude, or is it gonna be a fakeout of some kind? The creators haven't been above that type of misdirect in the past and the show plays around a lot with people's perceptions of reality.

I was poking around a bit and unless you want to watch all the Star Treks, Paramount's other offerings are kind of weak.

Even for the shows they do have, like FBI (I don't think it's a good show, really, but I find the Dick Wolf stuff bingeable/good for running in the background) you don't even get all the episodes. Why exactly does this cost $10/month if you only get the most recent season?

Even Peacock seems a better deal. I was looking up top lists of stuff to watch on Paramount and Vulture's roundup lists SIXTY MINUTES as one of the top things to watch on Paramount+. Which I think shows you how weak the offerings are overall if there's not something specific you signed up for.

You’d have to be really into their reality tv offerings I’d think.

Yeah, we're signed up for Paramount+ because we needed another mindless show to watch in the mornings since we are swearing off news that just makes you anxious all day long, and decided to watch some of the well-received seasons of Survivor. Since I'm paying for it anyways, we're working through Crazy Ex-Girlfriend as well. I also watched an episode of classic MacGyver for sh*ts and giggles.

But, everything else...is what I would graciously call shows my parents watch.

I guess it shouldn't be a surprise since it's all CBS content. It's just always a shock as someone who has been streaming whatever truly interests them for at least a decade to be reminded how network television is almost entirely generic pablum that is designed to be forgotten an hour after viewing.

Yellowstone.

The first thing I watched after signing up with Paramount+ was Star Trek Lower Decks. That show is so good.

Paramount+ also seems to be positioning itself as a premier streaming source for soccer. They have the rights to the UEFA Champions League next season along with a handful of domestic leagues (including Serie A).

I think Paramount + has the show Evil? If so that's a great show, and all the Star Trek stuff.

Is anyone else here watching Kevin Can f*ck Himself! I almost turned it off two minutes into the first episode. I had heard nothing about it so I thought Jesus this is the worst sitcom ever! About 30 seconds later it changes and I thought, oh there is more to this show than I thought.

I'm still not sure I am going to stick with it but I am willing to give it a few more episodes. Interested to hear what others might think.

I posted about this late last year - I think - but The Watch is now available on the BBC iPlayer (for those with access to it) which is the adaptation - an incredible loose adaptation - of Sir Terry Pratchett's Guards Guards.

So long as you pretend that Sir Terry Pratchett had nothing to do with it whatsoever, then it's curiously watchable.

If you have any love at all of any of his discworld series, then it's quite remarkable how a group of people can come together and not get anything right about the place and feel of the setting. I'm almost impressed they are so utterly and completely tone deaf to it in everything this series does.

Leverage: Redemption is a delight. It's almost like they never left. Pity it's such a pain to stream, and only available in the U.S. for now.

Watched Intergalactic which everyone seems to hate. Standard sci fi channel flare show about a group of criminals on the run to secret terrorist hideout. In the mix is lady with special powers, a cop, a prison guard, a lizard woman druggy, dark angry black woman, a girl with robotic dreadlocks, s roguish type, and a tough lady.

Most of the cast is female and women of color which is two reasons people hate it. Also there was rape scene early on that I'm sure turned people off. They did good job making two different groups hate this show. Then the start was kind of rough. You have this lady cop that looks like teenager as the lead. I thought it was terrible casting at first but then learn she is in some kind youth cop program and is playing a teenager. I'm sure a lot of people bailed before finding out she was actually a kid. Then they hit the angry black woman trope hard. They found the the darkest lady they could to nail it home. Then like I said this is sci fi channel type show which people just hate in general for being cheap, general poor acting, and junk stories.

I did not hate this show. There were many stupid things. The non criminals had multiple chances to get away but didn't and I have no idea why. In this world traitor's families are executed along with the traitor. So by staying with the criminals that have killed their family. Even if they don't like the government it would have been better to leave, quit law enforcement and join the terrorist in secret so their family don't get offed.

One set of characters fall in love with not setup. One minute they are enemies and the next they are kissing. They had another set of characters that actually built a relationship so this relation was really odd.

One character is cut open and nearly dies. A few hours later she is unhurt.

Now what did I like. I liked the mother's plot line. She works for the government and is trying to get her daughter back. The things she does are interesting. She is made out to be a full character and not a cartoon bad guy. I liked the universe they built. And I dug the cat and mouse story. I wouldn't recommend the show but I liked watching it.

Succession Season 3 is finally coming to HBO in October

Watching season 2 of Evil. Episode 4 with the elevator game got me, it is the only episode so far I thought was scary.

The thing that bothered me was that he probably could have gotten a text message out.

I love watching Evil. It's just a fun show. Sure it's not very scary, but for me it doesn't have to be.

No emmys for the expanse.

Survivor 41 starts off okay. I couldn't follow the weird extra vote rules. I don't like or hate anyone yet.

Survivor 41? Jesus I'm old.

It's only been on like 21 years. Kind of nonsense to do multiple seasons every year

I’d presume 90% of the fanbase disagrees.

Yeah well I was done with reality TV about the 3rd season of The Real World back in 95 or so. Whatever.

And I watch 4-5 hours a week :p.

Babylon 5 reboot coming to the CW. JMS is on board to write, but again, the CW.

I never watched the original. I might give this a chance even though it's CW. I would have preferred an amazon prime or something like that instead.

It survived UPN. Then again, I don't think UPN even knew what they were doing over there. Sadly, a good number of the original cast have died, so I don't expect them to trot out old characters for their own sake. I hope they can do something new and interesting with the world, though.

The original B5 was syndicated by Warner Bros. who only gave the series four out of the five seasons JMS wanted. Then towards the end of season four TNT stepped in to give the show one more year even though JMS had wrapped everything he wanted up in the fourth.
