Star Wars Misc. Catch-All

The arcs of Maul/Deathwatch/Mandalor and Ahsokas frame up are probably my favorite bits of Star Wars storytelling.

Another good Bad Batch episode.

Spoiler:

Good crossover.

Also like the city vehicle chases, but they're going to get stale really soon. Think they're going to that well frequently.

I liked it, too. Would love to see them start to actually train Omega a little in basic soldiering, that could be fun.

I also finished season 6 of Clone Wars and started what seems to be the Bad Batch Season 0, and is pretty great.

Spoiler:

Can't believe no one warned me off the jar-jar as a love interest arc. Yuck.

I hope every episode isn't going to focus on the kid.

From what I've seen so far, I'm pretty sure it will focus on Omega. It's a kids show after all, and core to it is the idea of a small child being the equal of grown ups. Pretty much every child's fantasy, no?

I think this ties in with something I've been thinking for a while. The 'on ramp' for Star Wars has become much too long for people new to the franchise. If you're 10 years old, then watching 9 films and god know how many episodes of the Clone Wars is a big ask.

Shows like the 'Bad Batch' are a good way of welcoming the new and the young.

Clone Wars was kid show that didn't focus on Ashoka every episode. However, ever episode Rebels was about Ezra.

I'm happy to take your word for that.

I've been to the foothills a couple of times, but I've never managed to scale the Mount Everest that is the Star Wars cartoons. It's just too daunting.

133 episodes of a least 20 minute each. That's almost two days of TV!

That said, it's May Bank Holiday next weekend..

I would argue that Clone Wars wasn't very kid friendly, there's a lot of death in that show and lots of just 'talking' about higher concepts that most kids probably aren't interested in.

The Bad Batch as a group was fairly already established and while they have lots of places to go and grow as characters Omega is brand new, she needs her character established and then for the growth to kick in. I think they're doing a good job so far. Little touches like the clones not knowing how to bribe or only what a bounty hunter is by rumor, those go a long way.

I know you've probably heard it before, but the characters built in the animated shows are some of the best in Star Wars. Ahsoka alone is worth the ride, from annoying kid to probably one of the wisest characters in all of Star Wars, with a lot of lessons explaining how she got there that you get to see.

Saw it mentioned the other day that Feloni was the one person directly responsible for the vast majority of Star Wars put on video.

That said, some of it's hard to get into to get hooked. But once you do, I suspect you'll enjoy it if you can stomach animation at all.

I wouldn't try to do it all at once. Start with a couple of episodes every few days and see if you like it. I took years to catch up.

Also, try to use a watch guide for Clone Wars. Some of the filler episodes are just the pits.

I wanted to see it all myself. But that's just me.

Clone Wars is actually a show that grew with its audience. The 1st couple seasons and the "movie" were more kid centric. The main characters(Ahsoka, etc) and topics grew to be more older kid/teen related as time moved on.

One thing that I always try to remember is something Filoni said Lucas would tell him when they were talking about the shows he was making. Star Wars has always been meant to be "for kids." That doesn't mean it's only for kids, but that it will always be primarily directed at kids, both actual kids and the kids within us adults. It can still get dark, but it needs to be done in a way kids can understand and not in a "bad things happen for no reason" kind of way.

Speaking of not really for kids, I watched the end of Clone Wars this morning and wow. Just. Wow. Ahsoka. Damn. I think Rosario did an amazing job playing her.

Spoiler:

So the two women are getting their own show, right? I figured there were two backdoor pilots in the last season of Clone Wars. Bad Batch and these two.

Continuing my Clone Wars watch along with A More Civilized Age and I'm glad for it, the final episode of Season 1 which segues into Season 2 is a marked jump in quality on almost every front.

I'm liking how I'm watching it, but I do recommend that anyone who has struggled with the early going in the show consider jumping to this point.

The Krell arc is where it got good for me, but probably because there are very few of the main characters.

Also, I LOVE the music that plays during the Bad Batch credits. So good!

Bad Batch continues to build in a nice way. Enjoyed this episode.

This latest episode was my favorite so far. Good soldiers follow orders. Crashed ships. Giant creatures. Old timers. All good.

Oh dang...

Spoiler:

Cad Bane is back! I loved the showdown between him and Hunter. Next episode's gonna be a wild ride.

Another nice bad batch episode and I wasn't spoiled on who showed up for once. Usually I'd be scroll through instagram or something and suddenly see the surprise guest in the next episode. Also the animation seems to be getting better. Definitely an improvement over Clone Wars and Rebels. Really also enjoyed helmet view, nicely used.

Also loved the helmet view. What a great episode of a great show.

Friday is now an archaic term for Newbadbatchday.

I just caught up on Bad Batch. I’m enjoying immensely. I was avoiding this thread until I caught up.

I'm waiting til they're all out so I can binge. I have been skimming here and avoiding spoilers as best as I can.

I’m going to rewatch ep 4 and up with my son. He stopped at three for some reason.

Probably because he watched episodes 1-3. /snark

A bit of a combo breaker, but I just finished reading Phasma. It’s really good STAR wars pulp, and makes me wish she wasn’t killed off in TLJ.

I’ll give more opinions later if their is discussion, but this is one of the better SW books out there, and my favorite book of the sequel era.

Maybe Phasma will come back with robotic spider legs.

I just finished reading Thrawn, by Timothy Zahn, and I thought it was very entertaining. It seemed to me it was more like Sherlock Holmes and Watson vs. Moriarty in space than Star Wars proper, but it was fun.
