Nintendo Switch Catch-All 2.0

That’s disappointing. Why can’t we just get a good game in the vein of Advance Tour?

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed. I adore the Mario sports games, but for now I'll just stick with my Mario Golf 64 cart. Hopefully this game gets some good DLC to make it worth a purchase in the future.

Not really surprised the game is light on content, because the trailer made it look like a game that was light on content.

That's not a high bar to clear.

Maybe Nintendo should price the games better.
Dare to dream.

So even setting aside the reviews, I’m sort of on the fence on Mario Golf. Even from early trailers it looked cool and I was interested, but not $60 interested. Same with the New Pokemon Snap. Maybe around Black Friday time I’ll grab them on sale. I may still be swayed if the after launch buzz is strong enough.

Not $60 seeming is always my issue with Mario sports titles. This one even has a story mode!

That doesn't look like any Zelda I've ever seen. I'm getting more Stardew Valley vibes from it.

Absolutely agree. Dunno what the editors there were thinking, as it looks like yet another Stardew clone, but with a known creator heading the team.

Eh, I kind of see some LttP influence.
A bit more Secret of Evermore though.

It's basically Harvest Moon meets A Link to the Past. A lot of the art and animations are reminiscent of both games on the SNES. It likely has some of the improvements that Stardew made because both games had the same influence.

Alright, I just finished 18 holes on my N64. It's good enough for me. To hell with paying $90 (in CDN and with taxes) for the same thing in 1080p. See, this is why Nintendo doesn't release N64 games on the Switch. Who'd buy Super Mario Party when you've got 2 & 3 right there?

I'll wait for the DLC to release and for a decent price drop. Even Nintendo has price drops sometimes.

Are you aware that they're putting out a remix of N64 Mario Parties on Switch this fall? Mario Party Superstars...

And yet polygon says Mario Golf: Super Rush is the best Mario sports game in over a decade and calls it a masterpiece.

Doesn't matter I bought it Monday and it's loaded and ready to play at midnight tonight

Edit: farley-hausered. I posted from the previous page.

Also newegg has $50 eShop cards for $45 today. So you can get Mario Golf for $55 if $60 is too much for you.

I'm no expert on Mario sports games so grain of salt, but after a few holes of standard and rush mode late last night I'm leaning toward it being slightly sub-par on both fronts. Either way I grabbed it mainly as an alternative to Mario Kart when the whole family want to play something together and I think it's gonna suit that perfectly. Can't wait to finish work today and fire it up with the boy.

Disappointed to hear there are only 6 courses in Mario Golf Was considering getting within a week of release, but now it's definitely off my radar for a while.

How are the motion controls in the new Mario Golf? I've had a bit of a Wii Sports hankering lately but don't really want to bother hooking up a machine that will play that.

Feels pretty good.

I thought my joycon wasn't calibrated right because I couldn't get the club face lined up. Then I looked at the instructions when you start again, and you are supposed to hold it on its side, like a club with your thumb on the edge buttons, your index finger on the R/L button down at the bottom facing away from you.

Once I did that I shot par on 9 holes on the beginner course. Before that I had shot much worse on just 3 holes.

But I ended up playing adventure mode with button controls so I could play handheld.

I was super excited for Mario Golf. Mario Golf and Hot Shots/Everybody's Golf were always some of my favorite sports games. They were always a great mix of arcadey feel with actual depth and a lot of polish. It sounds like this Mario Golf is more for the causal player and thin on content and that's super disappointing. I chalk it up to Nintendo being Nintendo. They are so behind is some areas that its shocking they get away with it. Most notably online play. I've read Mario Golf has no online tournaments or other online content beside just a 4 player regular round of golf. How is that acceptable? It's like Animal Crossing's online was so broken and janky it would have been unacceptable 10 or 15 years ago, but people give Nintendo a pass. I was hoping they would treat Mario Golf like Mario Kart but it sounds like they see Mario Golf as a b or even c tier franchise and don't want to spend the money.

I caved and bought it and so far I like it. I will say I can tell already the Adventure Mode won't last long, which is a bit of a bummer. I wish they could do a meaty adventure mode.

All of this is just making me feel like playing the GBA one. I played the tennis one back in the day and it was brilliant.

That's what I keep hoping we get again from Camelot.

Yeah GBA was the best adventure mode, and then you could pull your character to the GCN version.

Think I did both male and female characters back then because I had the time.

The GBC/GBA tennis games were amazing. Still looking for that in a sports game.

Nintendo introduces the OLED model, with an improved 7-inch screen, improved speakers, a wider, adjustable stand, and a wired LAN port in the dock.

Nothing mentioned regarding 4K upscaling or increased power output at all. It sounds like... a Switch.

Interesting. I’d have to set hands on one before I even consider it. My Animal Crossing Switch is too adorable.

This is kind of funny, tbh, considering the years of hype for a “Switch Pro”. Maybe that hype can die for a while now.
