Welcome folks, and happy “141st Anniversary of Ned Kelly’s capture” week! Ned Kelly was captured in his famous, heavy iron armour refashioned from the mouldboards of plough shares. The armor consisted of a long breast-plate, shoulder-plates, back-guard, apron, and helmet, but no leg armour. Maybe it was because the armour was already too heavy (44kg!), or maybe it was because he ran out of mouldboards. But skipping leg day at the forge was his downfall. You may all celebrate by playing a game where the boss has obvious weak points.

Greedfall: Gold Edition is a latest-gen edition that includes a new expansion: The de Vespe Conspiracy. I slogged through Greedfall to finish the main story and that was enough for me, but if you’re hankering for more of this colonial Renaissance RPG, this is a meaty, extra chunk. The expansion will also be available on the earlier-gen consoles.

Curved Space is a groovy, twin-stick shooter set on weirdly curved space landscapes. Your ship and its bullets hug the terrain as you strafe up and down curved walls and duck behind what appear to be giant neon pinballs. All set to a smashing synthwave soundtrack.

Prison Tycoon: Under New Management is a reboot of the Prisoner Tycoon series and this time, it’s all about rehabilitation. The game series that marketed its previous game, Lockdown, with the motto “Crack that Whip!” wants you to know that it’s no longer about punishing prisoners. Instead, a good Warden helps inmates “work through their own issues that landed them in prison.” It’s your job to provide them with the therapy they need to get healthy, including the zero-gravity tank and hologram room. Y’know, standard prison things. Is the Prison Tycoon series replacing physical punishment with heinous mental torture? Has it just grafted some Sims mechanics into its otherwise bland and depressing management sim? Tune into Early Access to find out.

Onirike is an indie team doing an open-world, action platformer. There’s no combat; instead, the focus is on exploring and solving the puzzles you find in a dreamlike landscape. YMMV depending on how much empty space you can tolerate in an open-world that hasn’t been stuffed with detail like in a bigger-budget game.

One of the disappointing things about the games that bubble up from mobile platforms is that the ones with cool names—names that reference a part of mythology or fiction and make you think “Huh, I’d like to see that in a game.” So, 12 Labours of Hercules XII: Timeless Adventure ends up being a generic app game, featuring time management with microtransactions, rather than a cool action-RPG where you play Hercules doing his 12 labours and levelling up his stats along the way, maybe with crafting and dialogue choices.

Descenders is an extreme downhill cycling game from 2019, which is about the last time I gave my bike any serious attention.

QWETRIS, or TETRIX 3D, is 3-dimensional Tetris. That is all.

This-gen Xbox owners finally get the port of Blaster Master Zero that everyone else has had for years. It’s a lo-fi cult hit from the Nintendo DS, with classic “boy and his tank” gameplay that combines side-scrolling platforming and shooting (when in tank mode) and 8-directional exploration and shooting (when in boy mode).

We all love games where you get (and can pet) a dog, but what’s happening with games where you BE the dog? This week, Arkan: The dog adventurer expresses the dog experience as jumping around on hind legs and trying to hit balls to smash bricks in a wall. Spirit of the North: Enhanced Edition features a fox, which is technically not a dog, but it does have more authentic, quadripedal movement. And Warhammer 4,000: Space Wolf is not about dogs at all, but is instead a squad-based strategy card game.

If you are a Monty Python fan who loves Terry Gilliam’s weird, animated collages using figures from classic paintings, well, The Procession to Calvary is basically a game of that.

Meanwhile, the Switch is getting Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny and the Mega Man clone, Mighty Aphid.

There’s nothing here to distract from my current playlist. I’m still powering through Mass Effect 2. I’ve done all the loyalty missions and have just taken time out to play a quick Sweden campaign in Civ 6 before getting on with the endgame. If I had to choose, Curved Space reminds me of those cool, mini-planet levels in Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, so it gets the GOTW.

Lots of words from Threepaper, not a lot of interesting games imho. Not your fault!

D6 is on preorder for me.

Descenders is an extreme downhill cycling game from 2019, which is about the last time I gave my bike any serious attention.

I was mostly using the bike to ride to work, so once WFH hit, it stayed in the shed.

QWETRIS, or TETRIX 3D, is 3-dimensional Tetris. That is all.

Wasn't that Tetris 64?

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus is probably the only thing of interest to me. I haven't played it yet, though saw plenty of it in streams. A fascinating game, but one in which I'll have to get to later.

A quiet week is a good week, sometimes.
