Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

We watched Awake and Wish Dragon. We enjoyed both.

Wish Dragon was great!
My wife said it was produced by Jackie Chan.

Oh. Interest peaked.

Katla seems to be real interesting. Volcano in Iceland erupts and people start coming out of the ashes. I don't want to spoil it with anything else, but it's a sci fi mystery show that is stunningly gorgeous and very low key. I am two episodes in and I am hooked.

Oooh, this looks interesting. Reminds me a little of Glitch. Also, "stunningly gorgeous" and "Iceland" are redundant. I highly recommend anyone visit there if you get the chance.

I really liked Wish Dragon. Great animation, laugh out loud moments, and a good story. Pixar better bring their A game with these upstarts snapping at their heels.

Finished off Black Summer season 2. Absolutely fantastic. Think only one weak episode (The Lodge) and that wasn't even that bad - total surprise ending. So much tension from start to finish. And the last episode has one of the best chase sequences in a zombie movie/tv show. I was yelling "Oh s***!!!" and "Oh f***!!!!" constantly. The creators were totally relentless with that sequence.

So kudos to the team of the show. The year off allowed them to improve leaps and bounds over the first season and create something so solid.

I really loved Black Summer so I was glad to see that it was coming back. And even more glad to hear that it is awesome.

Black Summer, zombie apocalypse show, has season 2 up on Netflix.

Do they have a recap for season 1? Been so long since I watched it I barely remember who is who. I did enjoy season 1, though. Looking forward to S2.

the exact same thing happened to me;
found this recap that was very quick;

also, ignore the poster, there is NO explanation or click bait of any kind.

There was a series of podcasts about this story that was amazing. Such a bizarre story

It's kind of a weird take on Wish Dragon, but I'm glad the Jimmy Wong is getting more work in Hollywood. He was a great addition to VGHS back in the day.

I finished Sweet Tooth over the weekend. Very well done. I read the comic when it came out but don't remember a ton of it, but generally this has a gentler, less soul-crushing tone. I want to say it's more a matter of changing the order in which information is revealed than it is just completely changing the plot, but also I don't really remember! All I know is I have a copy of Sweet Tooth #1 signed by Jeff Lemire along with a sketch of Sweet Tooth and maybe now is the best time to go to eBay with that...

Never even heard of the source material but I enjoyed Sweet Tooth. It sure ends on a helluva cliffhanger so it better get another season!

Don't worry netflix never cancels a show without given it a good ending.

At least there is a comic series to read if it gets canceled.

I see they somehow managed to resist the temptation to call it "Love At First Bite".

Oh, The Prestige is on my list of movies I haven't gotten around to... wait, that's not The Prestige. That's not The Prestige at all!

We are about two steps from Ow My Balls.

Mitchells vs Machines was surprisingly good

Edit: I couldn't figure out if it was more Scott Pilgrim or Love Death and Robots. Either way, it was awesome.

I liked Sweet Tooth. Liked the ending half more than the first half but it was all around good show.

For any of you that liked to play Banner Saga, maybe Katla is up your alley.

X-files meets Dark in Iceland. Beautiful cintematography, very slow evolving and kind of depressing with some loose ends in the story (or... room for the viewer to fill in).

I liked it, and it me made immediately renovate my house, which hasn't been done in the past 3 years.

My wife and I have started watching Katla as well. We are two episodes in, and we are very intrigued.

Also if you thought Dark was a bit too cheery for you, Katla is what you are looking for.

I think Katla ends rather positive... then again, I live for some time now in Scandinavia and slowly of get the hang of the people here and their love for suicide and/or drinking slowly to ones death. A gray, cloudy summer followed up by a dark winter without snow really bites.

I finished late last night and am still kinda processing it.

The first episode hooked me completely. I loved the dismally beautiful setting, the isolation, and the premise. It felt like a very slow motion Uncut Gems with the mystery and pressure steadily ratcheting up.

I periodically got frustrated with the characters seeming inability to ask or answer basic questions. But I also accept that the reveals needed to be parsed out in a particular manner. I just had to accept the magic and mystery of the story.

It was very much worthy a watch. Thanks for recommending it!
