FFXIV: catch all

Will do sometimesdee. In the case you’re on when the others aren’t, this has the info for finding the FC house, where you can apply via the placard out front.

Applied!

I'm looking forward to the cross-data center stuff. Hyperion on Primal is so congested, I have to queue every time to log in to it but yet I don't know like anyone that plays there let alone on Primal. I would move but the one person I do play with would be pretty bummed if I did.

I think I've had a short queue to log in to Midgardsormr every time since Shadowbringers released. It's never more than a minute or so, but it has become just a normal part of the login experience for me.

Yeah I've had a short queue every time on two different servers. It never takes too long.

I almost always had a queue on Malboro; it's in the single digits during weekday mornings, and up to the 40s or 50s on weekends.

I only started a few months ago, but queueing is just a normal part of the log-in process for me. Don't think I've never just immediately gotten in (but I imagine my work schedule makes my log-in times fit into highly congested times).

anyone want to do a recruit a friend with me?

Are you recruiting, or looking to be recruited?

Sent you a code in PM

Ah, sweet. FFXIV was part of the May 2020 PSPlus free games. I claimed it back then, but never installed it since it said it needed the usual monthly subscription. Well, the recent thread activity here prompted me to install it, and wouldn't ya know, it comes with 30 days. Even better, it's now linked to my existing S-E account, so I can play my existing character, even on PC. Yay! Merphie Goodjer will see you all in there soon.

sometimesdee I approved your FC application.

I mentioned it on the previous page, but we also chat about the game in the #mmo channel on Discord. We've even, *gasp*, used voice chat a time or two!

Just took my first airship ride, was pretty fun.

You should be unlocking your first dungeon soon!

Wait how is a dungeon different from those instanced battle thingies?

Dungeons are group instances with a tank, a healer, and two damage dealers making up the party. You’ll encounter them regularly as you progress through the main story, and there are several optional ones along the way as well. Once you’ve unlocked it, the Duty Finder makes it easy to group with players to get through it. You can also bring friends/FC members with you in a party to fill some or all of the slots. There are mobs to kill and each one usually has three boss fights.

Oh I think I did unlock those optional ones but I've not done one yet. They have a funny name that I can't recall.

I did do the various training scenarios and that was fun. Especially the music. I love the music in this game.

Those might be guild hests? Those are little training dungeons with 3 other players. There's also Hall of the Novice tutorials which are 1 player. Those give good gear if you complete them all for you role, including a ring that gives 30% EXP boost up to level 30.

Yeah that's it. I did the hall of novice stuff which gave nice gear.

So I'm pretty much all in on this now. Bought the expansions and a subscription and still barely feel like I've seen the tip of the iceberg. Can't wait to play more.

It's a big iceberg.

Yeah that's what got me interested Initially, hearing just how big it is.

So I did the first dungeon, Shasta or whatever it's called, and had a great time. I also never noticed all the crafting guilds before. My lord there are a lot. I'm gonna keep focused on pugilist until I fully level that up, but it's exciting to know about all those other possibilities, and that I could effectively do all of them.

The crafting and gathering is nearly a whole game unto itself, especially while leveling. Lots of fun stories hiding in the job quests and beast tribes too.

That's very exciting to hear!

So, it's time once again to get myself back in and keep moving through the story, but first I had some unfinished business to wrap up:

Whew, that was a lot of work -- although maybe easier than the ARR grind was for this one when I did that last year:

Not really sure. We'll see whether I decide to keep up this ridiculous pattern of grabbing a relic weapon as a souvenir for each expansion after I complete it -- it feels great once you have them, but I hear the Eureka weapons for Stormblood will be a whole other level of silly.

Also, for what it's worth, I don't think in general I'd recommend the grind to new players before reaching 80 -- I've had a lot of fun with it, but I'm a special kind of broken. (Not only am I doing these relic grinds as I go, I'm actively keeping like five or six jobs appropriately leveled for the story content I'm working through as a result of all the completest madness I'm engaging in.)

Sastasha story: Early in lockdown my BFF and decided to play games each week instead of going for beers, and XIV was something that had crossplay. Soon enough he reported that he was letting his daughter fly around Mor Dhona, and soon enough after that, she'd made her own character: lala ACN, natch. Now she has apparently unlocked both SMN and SCH and hasn't picked which to focus on. She wound up in Satasha as SCH with 3 first timers recently. "Well, I'm the only one who knows where to go," she apparently proclaimed, and dragged the rest through. She is 9.

Hahahahahah amazing.

My daughter, who is 13, started playing a few months ago. She's currently in Stormblood content. She loved the look of the Astrologian, and unlocked it when she could. She now heals group content.

She is braver than me.
