Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Am I the only one who is afraid to get invested in shows like Sweet Tooth because of Netflix's reputation for cancelling good shows after two seasons on cliffhangers?

Nope, it is probably the smart move. But the irony there is that they will cancel it if not enough people watch. I am not watching it because I adored the comic and just don't like the idea of it being turned into a tv show. Though, truth be told, if I hear enough great things, and Netflix gives it more of a fighting chance and keeps the show around, I will probably break down and watch it.

My issue with it is not due to the TV treatment, but that they turned it into a "family" show.

Time from announcement to the first comment I saw enthusing how great it was that they didn't do to the famously hetero He-Man what they did to that icky She-Ra: 5 minutes.

Mark Hamill is Skeletor? Well yeah now I have to watch it.

... did they have to mention the 40 year part?

No Kevin Smith did the new he-man.

Great. Now He-Man will start Female Doggoing about working with Bruce Willis.

and have a long digression about why Star Wars is better than Lord of the Rings.

I have no idea what's going on, but it looks cool.

Never played League of Legends, but that clip looks amazing. I will check out the series!

Started watching Lupin on Netflix. It threw me into the middle of a story with admirable boldness, seeming to be confident that I’d catch up with who the characters were. I thought I’d quickly check how many season of the show there were and realised Netflix had started me on episode one of season 2 (herumph.) I went pack to the first episode of season one and it was excellent. Nice to find a French drama I’m into now Spiral has finished.

Check out A Very Secret Service! Shake the plum tree, see what falls out.

Will do. Thanks.

Man, I loved that show!

Very excited for more Lupin! Almost caught up on Castlevania. So cool.

Also add Call My Agent to the list of recommended French dramas (although it’s more of a dramedy) on Netflix.

Sweet Tooth was good. Really hope they fast track S2.

Manifest starting interestingly enough, but ran out of steam quickly.

A Monster Calls was remarkably good. Not what I expected, but very touching.

I know a lot of people will cry "It's just Aladdin again!" but I found Wish Dragon to be smart, charming, funny, drop dead gorgeous and absolutely stands on its own. I also really, really, enjoyed that I didn't understand some of the little details and jokes that are very Asian in their origin. Great movie.

I watched episode 1 of Sweet Tooth last night (having no prior knowledge of the character/story) and found myself kinda bored by the end. Does it get more interesting?

I'll just leave this here:

Yay!
I have enjoyed the Trollhunters series more than I ought to

My kids and I have seen all Trollhunters content twice, and then some.

Cool beans.

Is it from the same studio that did Blood of Zeus? Looks like their work.

Yeah it's Powerhouse, which did both Castlevania and Blood of Zeus

They had their b-team on Blood of Zeus, no? The animation on that show was generally awful.

I asked about Blood of Zeus because I thought the animation looked very similar. I didn't make a connection to Castlevania though, which had much better animation than Blood of Zeus.

Blood of Zeus:

Powerhouse Animation Studios with the animation outsourced to South Korean studios Mua Film and Hanho Heung-Up

With Castlevania

Mua Film (seasons 1–3)
Tiger Animation (season 4

Black Summer, zombie apocalypse show, has season 2 up on Netflix. Watched the first three episodes and its much better than the first season, so far, and I loved the first season.

The first episode of this season I was rooting so hard for Luke (the guy who looks like Seth Rogan). The first season Luke was doing such dumb stuff I was pretty much yelling at the TV at what an idiot he was. In this episode he becomes the underdog you're rooting for - in such a strange way.

The third episode, "Card Game", is pretty amazing. Have three groups of people who mix like oil and water hiding out in a home. Even though you know from the previous episode how this one is going to end the tension is crazy high. And the card game itself is great once you figure out what's going on - great job on whomever thought that up.

So yes, this season also has the same jump back in time technique the first season used. But unlike the first season where it would play for about 10 minutes, cut, then jump back in time with a new person/group, this one really only jumps back in time each individual episode (so far). So episode 2 actually takes place before episode 1. And episode 3 takes place before episode 2 ends. So it's not as jarring as the original season.

The Kenshin live action films are now on Netflix in the UK. I enjoyed the first three some time ago and now there’s a fourth. They are reasonably entertaining manga based samurai movies featuring a hero who has a ‘back blade’ a sword with it’s cutting edge on the back.

Do they have a recap for season 1? Been so long since I watched it I barely remember who is who. I did enjoy season 1, though. Looking forward to S2.
