What are you playing this weekend?

Probably continuing Ring Fit Adventure since I'm trying to beat the adventure mode before the end of the month. Then some more Yakuza 0 and Half Life: Alyx.

Mass Effect 2 - just got a couple of loyalty missions to do, and the Overlord and Shadow Broker DLCs, before I go to nick some part from a derelict Reaper. So plenty of activity before we go off to kick the Collectors in the daddy-bags.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for me this weekend.

Yakuza 0 Chapter 3. Goro time baby.

Just started Mass Effect and... Sekiro? That can't be right. I already gave up on FromSoftware games.

Between the two, Sekiro is handily winning the fight for my attention. Also, some Into the Breach with the strategy club. They’re both making me stay up too late.

Mass Effect 3, where the best way to save the galaxy is to do everything you can before saving the galaxy.

I'd be interested to know why Sekiro is appealing to you, when you've previously given up on FromSoftware games? I'm firmly in the 'gave up on FromSoftware' camp, but have been a bit curious about Sekiro and wondering if I should just give in.

So because of this thread on Twitter, I decided to give Final Fantasy XIV a try, and I'm now totally sucked in.

I watched part of a Games Done Quick speedrun of Sekiro last year and the part that stuck with me was the "ring ring ring" rhythm game of the sword duels. Other games feature timed parries, of course, but it feels different the way they chain together in Sekiro. It sure looked a lot different from the ol' dodge-roll-and-strike. I was still thinking about that when it was on sale recently, so I figured I should try.

Traversal is more fun than it ever was thanks to the grapple and wall jump, and I think those play well with From's trademark emphasis on level architecture. There are more opportunities to find surprising routes to avoid fights altogether.

Your character has an identity and even some spoken lines, and the RPG stats have mostly been replaced with skill trees like in every other open world action game these days. And even losing half your unbanked experience on death, you will fill those skill trees pretty quickly. You can respawn once after a death, which sometimes lets you score a cheap backstab or just flee to rest. There's an immortal guy near your home base who lets you use him as a training dummy to practice the mechanics. So I found it a bit more accessible early on.

It's certainly not easy. It's very fast, and when it came out, there were a lot of comments here and on other forums that Sekiro is From's hardest game yet. I have been frustrated, and a few days ago I was wondering if it was time to give up. But yesterday I had a breakthrough, dropped multiple bosses, and stayed up late to explore. I'm already further than I ever was in Bloodborne, so for me it's not harder, just different.

I actually just started playing Sekiro too. It's my very first ever FromSoftware game. I'm liking it a lot so far, though it's definitely challenging. I felt like I do pretty well against that immortal guy, struggled against that first boss, and definitely am finding that stealth is a big part of the game: battles are a lot harder when I'm facing off against 2 or more enemies. May be time to revive the Sekiro thread!

Started the weekend with 90 more minutes of Koudelka late last night.

Aside from that, it'll mostly be watching the European Championship in my free time. I might sneak some Batman: Arkham Asylum and/or Forgotton Anne in though.

Persona 5 Royal, of course.

Still on my bull shirt.

The plan for this weekend is to continue my replay of Rise of the Tomb Raider, and keep moving forward in Trails to Azure.

And Rogue Legacy bored me, so I quit. It's fun for about 2 hours, but then it's just repetitive. I enjoyed it for those 2 hours though and I had bought the game years ago on some sale, so I'm glad I played it since it cost me nothing. I just need to remember that roguelikes are not for me for the future.

Now I'll be switching over to Resident Evil 2 (2019). I'm about an hour in, but I'm not used to survival horror games. I've been playing poorly and wasting a lot of ammo, so I'm just going to restart. I watched a video on some newbie tips that should help a lot. Baiting zombies by forcing them to do a lunge and knowing that blue rooms are complete will help so much.

I will be relegated to playing on my 2DS XL this weekend, so I'll likely be replaying The Legend of Zelda: OoT 3D, Super Mario 3D Land, and maybe some Mario Kart 7 to cleanse the palate.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Naraka: Bladepoint - I’ll try to fit in a couple more matches before the open beta ends on the 22nd. I’m not feeling it like I thought I would, mostly due to their half baked controller support.
Streets of Rage 4 and Streets of Fury - I want to reinstall Fury now that I’ve learned the developer worked on SoR4. The pedigree makes perfect sense!

Days Gone still. Should be called Days Long. Thought I was getting close to the end of the game (38hrs in) and then a whole new area opened up.

Take a wild guess at what I'm playing this weekend.

I'd say I'm about halfway through Mass Effect 2, give or take.

*bazing. Got em.

As for me In going to be using a bike as a weapon in Yakuza 0.

Mass Effect 3 - because them reapers aren't going to kill themselves.

I’m replaying Metro Exodus now that the new patch is out with better ray tracing. Also starting to replay Dark Souls 3.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 co-op. So far it’s very entertaining.

I started playing Warframe!

…this may be a bad idea because I can see my playtime exploding into hundreds of hours, but… time will tell. I feel the loop is already very satisfying.

Starting the weekend early!

I've sunk a decent amount of time into The Evil Within 2. It's soooo good. I'm hooked. The production quality difference between it and the original reminds me of the difference between the first Mass Effect and the second. There's a lot more that I'm liking about it, but I'm sure I'll rant about it when the time comes. Suffice to say, so far it may be the best game I've played this year.

Obviously The Evil Within 2 is not something I can play when my 3 y/o is around, but just last weekend she discovered that she likes watching me play games so there might be a bit of NES/SNES Mario and Kirby games too. Although even with those, the whole thing revolves around killing things and not being killed, so hopefully we'll find something else.

Yesssss! I'm so glad to hear you say that. Not to oversell it, but it ended up as my #2 in my Top 10 Games list last year. I hope you continue to enjoy it!

Playing this coop with my wife and brother all the way through was maybe the best gaming experience I've had. Ever! Enjoy!

Moar Metro Exodus

Good to hear. Thanks.
