The Elder Scrolls Online Catch-All

It is still deadly if spec'd correctly - it had to get balanced down a lot from its initial variants as otherwise no-one would use any other weapon - with its range bonuses in PvP especially, nightblade snipers are still the burst killers that then disappear before you can close and do anything about them.

Just picked up Greymoor in the sale on Playstation. Not sure if I'll stick with it, but I'm enjoying taking my time on some quests around Solitude... Is there anyone else playing on Playstation in a 8-10pm GMT window?

Ok, who is still playing this? Just fired it up again and made a new character. Add me @astralplaydoh

ESO just got an update:

I'm hoping this drops on Gamepass for PC soon.

Well, it wasn't super soon, but ESO is part of Game Pass starting tomorrow.

Looks like console only, which is... kinda weird. I wonder if there's a technical issue.

I'll probably do what I did with the last two expansions: preorder, forget about it,

...and that's exactly what I did. Time to play through the content I paid for before I decide whether to preorder the new expansion again. Anyone playing on PC/NA feel free to send me a message!

Weird. I could've sworn that the graphic had the PC icon. Sorry about that!

Not your fault. That graphic would've been so much easier to read if they hadn't left-justified the icons for each game. Designers: Put iconography like that left/center/right with empty space where it doesn't apply!

PC version of ESO wasn't built to use Microsoft's XB auth setup unlike its XB variant; it uses Bethesda.Net and Steam.

Welp, reinstalled this AGAIN. Started a fresh new character AGAIN. Had almost forgotten I had double-dipped on this between PS4 and PC. I think I also went in on the Summerset DLC on PC but now I feel like playing on PS4 so, boo lack of cross-play.

It's always kind of comforting to fire this up again but I'm quickly feeling overwhelmed by the sheer amount of stuff. Of course I'm gong to enjoy the new player experience again and just focus on solo questing for the next little while.

The amount of stuff was my issue last time. I couldn't figure out what to focus on.

One zone at a time. One zone at a time.

I only just finished Caldwell’s Gold a few months ago. Then I started Morrowind right away just to see Seyda Neen, and then quit again to take a break for a bit.

Sooo... is Greymoor good? It's on significant discount now during the PS Spring Sale. It may be slightly impulsive of me seeing as I'm just day back into this game but if it snaps in seamlessly with my current save and offers a bunch of quality content then I may well jump on it for the price.

Zone guide button is your friend if your find yourself suffering from OMG, what to do next?!

Decided to go Greymoor and roll up a Nord tank in order to try the new FTUE. Maybe I'm not doing as many side quests but the leveling feels much slower using this character compared to the Dark Elf nightblade I began a week earlier.

I'm also looking for the Undaunted quest line in Solitude's tavern but haven't had any luck. I thought there's always an Undaunted NPC located in the tavern of your starting city?

They're sometimes in a tent on the edge of town.

Greymoor is fun. I decided to level up a vampire for the first time when i started it.

The story line seemed to have you level up rather quick from what i remember. I do side quests as well. although i'm also punching above my paygrade with hand-me-down gear and upgrades from my other characters.

The Undaunted are very traditional, so tend to hang out in base game taverns for the most part, so you should find them in Stonefalls, Auridon and Glenumbra; folks coming into the game in the later chapters tend to get an invite to come chat with them in the mail.

Thanks guys. I got impatient and took a ship over to Glenumbra(?).. Daggerfall? The geography is still a bit confusing to me. I was looking at the docks icons and felt like I was trying to navigate a metro station in a new city. Anyhoo, found the orc recruiter and did the thing for her to get my induction to the guild.

I just ended up watching so many YT videos stressing the importance of getting a jump on this quest line and to begin leveling some of those skills in early progression.

Tales of Tamriel worth reading?

I've long enjoyed ES games, but found the lore to be ho hum. However, at this point, there's nothing that compares to the scope and likely never will again in my lifetime (in games).

So, worth a read?

I'm not sure how to describe why I like the lore in Elder Scrolls so much, I don't want to call it 'realistic' obviously, but it has an uncertainty to it that feels realistic. Different events, different gods and deities, and different places can all mean different things to different cultures and people. And everything changes over time. Historical accounts that you read are from in-character perspectives. I get the feeling we'll probably never know the objective, true history of Tamriel because there might not be one. All we can do is piece together the stories people have told. Once you dive in it's way more interesting than a dry list of events.

Even when the actual story is a bit rote, and it can be, the lore keeps me coming because every story offers more clues about the world they live in.

...I've never heard of this book though. And I'm talking myself into playing again.

Link in case you're too lazy to look it up.

Officially licensed lore books.

I've actually read all of these books and really enjoyed them. They're fun and really lovely physical books.

The Skyrim ones are also good.

Took a MUCH needed day off from work and plugged four hours or so into ESO on my current gen Xbox. I had been playing on PS4 and pc in the past, so needed to start fresh, unfortunately. That's fine, it's easy enough to level up though research is a PITA to do all over again.

Aaaaaaaanyway, ended up splurging for the pre-order on Blackwood as I'm excited for the companion character. Current character is a sorc, which is my first ever sorc in ESO so a companion to suck up some damage will be welcome as I AOE everything.

There's so damn much to do in this game after being away a couple years, it's nuts.

Of course I'm busy doing Thieves Guild quests. I can't help it. I really have a problem with that.

Word of warning - as a returning player I found those quests are fun but don’t give a lot of experience. Unless I missed something, I felt I was better off leveling towards 50 then coming back.

Would concur, both Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, once you get to the mid-sections of them where its largely a chase for skill xp, mix them in with other stuff otherwise you'll likely get frustrated very quickly. If in doubt, pick a random zone, and hit the handy dandy zone guide button to find you something you've not done

I picked up ESO on GamePass, but moved over to PC when I found a couple friends were already active there. Right now I'm powering through Auridon mostly with forays into the Mages Guild.

I am really liking it. I agree with others about how much stuff there is. I was happy to learn I could abandon a quest so I can focus my efforts on a single area. But I've gotten to level 32 and almost entirely been in Auridon and there's still more stuff.

What's the level cap now with the new champion point system? Before, hitting level 50 was a soft cap and your gear skilled up much higher. Is that still the case?

Yes, recently got a tweak. When CP 2.0 got released last year the cap was moved a lot higher, so previously there was an 810 cap, although you get accumulating beyond, you couldn't assign them. With 2.0 you can, right on up to 3k; with the latest Blackwood release, 1600 is the sweet spot in terms of overall power, with beyond that more of horizontal progression and widening the things that can make use of that 1600.

Ok, after waiting literal months for WoW: Shadowlands to update, I finally decided to install ESO. I am literally 5 minutes into the game and realize this is going to be a lot of fun.

Two quick questions:
1. Any general tips for someone starting this game for the first time? (If it helps I'm a Skyrim vet)

2. At this point early on, should I dive in and get the expansion packs? If so, which ones (Blackwood, Greymoor, Elsweyr, Summerset, Morrowind)

Thanks, and looking forward to some fun times in Tamriel!
