Battlefield 2042 Catch All

EA/DICE have announced Battlefield 2042 for October 22nd.

Certainly seem to be embracing some of those quirkier moments that Battlefield occasionally throws up.

128 player maps, robot dogs, wingsuits and very large Tornadoes.

The lack of Titan mode is disappointing.

Feels more like a Just Cause game than Battlefield, in part due to the tornado.

That said, rocket shot from the jet was neat.

Levelcap and some others were given a briefing on the game. He thinks the unannounced game mode that one of the teams is working on is Titan mode. He said that it was described as a mode long time battlefield players would feel right at home in.

I can see the potential for a fantastic game if they can get it right.

Kinda hard to get excited about a cinematic trailer, especially for a multiplayer game.

Battlefield: Red Bull. Looks daft as a brush.

Swap in some red and blue lasers and it's basically GI Joe.

Huh, no single player. Guess they’re going all in on multiplayer.

WHY HAS NOBODY MADE THIS!?

I would finally figure out why my mic doesn't work if I had an excuse to randomly shout COBRA! while playing a Battlefield game.

FYI there's a video of a person doing that in-game in BF 3 (I think) on YouTube. I think that part of the release video is a homage to that.

Finally the Command and Conquer FPS we've all been waiting for.

.... since that last one.

I’m actually ok with this. I haven’t played a single player BF campaign, ever. I know some will be disappointed but I personally prefer the resources put into the MP aspect.

No mechs seen. Meh. (I'll probably still get it).

Posted another video but decided it was redundant content wise.

The ol' Rendezook. I remember the first time I saw it. I was on break sitting on the removable benchseat of a mini-van while working at an auto auction. I showed it to every single person I saw that day.

Crazy BF moment! Very cool that Dice included a similar moment in the trailer including the ATV. One can expect demo packed ATV's to be a staple as well.

I have faith in Dice but grappling hook snipers, robots, large player numbers, helicopters, automatic turrets and drones sounds like a nightmare of constant harassment. Whatever happens I'm in though. This might be the thing that finally pushes me to try and get a new Xbox.

My only wish is to have a rocket launcher than can actually do decent damage to vehicles because they have been a bit lacking in 1 and 5.

Gameplay. Looks spot on.

There is some interesting analysis here. If true it seems like they might have rationalised a lot of the core elements of the game in smart ways.

Is all of that going to run okay on Xbox One (X)?

Is that the older Xbox? I’m not going to try it on PS4. I can’t imagine it would be a good experience. I’ll wait until I get a PS5. There’ll be fewer players on the older machines.

(Although I might try a beta.)

A chat with two guys who headed development. Very interesting. I’m partway through.

They have said it will be on Xbox One and PS4 but will be the reduced 64 player games not 128. Therefore the versions of the maps will be smaller.

So if I understand correctly, anyone can carry a rocket launcher now, not just the engineer class? If so, that will be rough to be in a vehicle..

Yeah, but they may put Active Protection Systems on the vehicles to mitigate rockets. Plus it is good for pilots to be a bit afraid.

I've been completely uninterested in Battlefield for the last few iterations.

I think I might be all-in on this one.

While it isn't exactly a follow-up to the greatest Battlefield (2142) that I have long wished for, it feels a lot like a cross between the last BF that was any good IMO (BF4) and the PS3 game MAG.

Unless DICE completely biffs it, this will probably be the first AAA multiplayer shooter in a long time that I get into from launch.

I think Battlefield is simply better in a more modern setting, really. CoD, also. And so on.

As much as I enjoyed parts of 1, in part due to the setting novelty, the earlier war settings work better with more tactical gameplay a la Red Orchestra.

I found BF 1 to be the most accessible BF i've played to be honest and I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent with it. I never bothered with BF 5 after the terrible reception it got at launch.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this one. It does like a lot of fun. I'm just not sure that's ever what BF was meant to be all about.

EA/DICE have announced the second BF2042 game mode, called “Portal”.

It’s basically Halo’s Forge in Battlefield: here’s a bunch of tools and toys with which to make your own game modes.

They’ve included content from 1942, Bad Company 2, and BF3 (including some maps from each) in the mode. So people will be able to recreate some old game content, as well as cook up crazy stuff like 20 Spitfires vs. one F-18 and other such cross-era fun.

They’ve also indicated that this is just the beginning of the content being made available to Portal, making it sound like content from other Battlefields will be coming in the future. So I now have the hope of eventually being able to play recreated BF2142 Titan Mode in Portal mode.

By far, 2042 is the most excited I’ve been about a Battlefield in forever. I hope some of the oldtimers around here that used to play BF2, BF3, etc come back and we can get some game night activity.

Old timer here, I am in! The options are endless! The cool thing is the flexibility in this thing. I really didn't expect it..

Yep. Seems like a brilliant reinvigoration of the series with infinite potential for expansion. I hope, and I’m sure they will, they import BF4 maps with obliteration on. I adore that game mode.
