Welcome folks, and happy “3,330th Anniversary of the reign of Ramesses II as Pharaoh of Egypt” week! Ramesses II ruled for 66 years, establishing his rep through a series of military campaigns to regain lost territory and an extensive program of public works and monument-building. He is also a signatory to the world’s earliest-known written peace treaty—with the Hittites. He loomed large in the minds of the ancients, and Greek historians called him by another name: Ozymandias. You may all celebrate by playing a dynasty game where one leader just hits it on all fronts.

Necromunda: Hired Gun is an FPS by indie French developers, StreumOn Studio. You play as a bounty hunter, taking contracts in the Warhammer 40K city of Necromunda. The FPS side looks very nu-DOOM inspired, with double jumps, grappling, wall-running and setting enemies up for brutal finishers. All within the nightmarish, dog-eat-dog dystopia that Warhammer entails. Speaking of dogs, you have one: an upgradeable cyborg dog that will kill in exchange for treats.

Wasteland 3 was one of my favourite games from 2020, so you bet I’m excited for its first expansion: The Battle of Steeltown. Steeltown is the factory city that makes everything for the Patriarch: guns, armor, vehicles, robots. As such, it is a big new hub city, full of factions, gear, quests, and choices. The new gear includes a suite of non-lethal weapons, bringing the idea of pacifist runs into the mix. The preview materials suggest that you can play it before or after you finish the main story questline, as enemies are level-scaled, and it will adapt to choices you’ve made in the main game. The original composer and music director are back on board, too, so expect more of those affecting music moments.

Blackwood is your quarterly dose of The Elder Scrolls Online, with its new Companions system where you can summon an NPC to fight and grind alongside you. Companions will level up and have their own gear that is not interchangeable with yours. They will also build rapport with you over time.

Operation: Tango is a multiplayer, co-op, spy game. Just as it takes two to tango, it will take two friends with microphones to complete the missions. One plays agent, the other plays hacker, but you need to talk to each other to get through the challenges and puzzles. Only one person needs to buy the game, however, and the other can join in with a free friend pass.

Capcom must have gotten sick of watching indie devs cash in with games based on its arcade classic, Ghosts’n Goblins. It has finally stumped up for Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection, a reboot of the franchise that is more colourful but no less difficult.

The Last Kids on Earth and the Staff of Doom is an action-RPG based on the popular series of kids’ novels. Mighty Goose is an arcadey, side-scrolling shooter, while Alphadia Genesis 2 is a JRPG fresh off the App store.

The Sniper: Ghost Warrior series keeps on truckin’ with its sixth instalment, Contracts 2. Its big, new feature is the contracts requiring extreme long-range shots of over 1000m.

On the Switch, there’s DC Super Hero Girls: Teen Power, based on the animated series and featuring gameplay that’s Persona-lite.

My GOTW goes to Wasteland 3: The Battle of Steeltown. It looks like a chunky extra chapter of Wasteland 3, which is all I need to jump back in. After I’m done with Mass Effect Legendary Edition—so probably in, like, 6 months or so.

Last Kids on Earth? Huh, my oldest will be interested.

Necro - something something hired gun fps... Yes

Played a few minutes of Necromunda this morning. Seems very promising. Totally extra in all the right ways.

I admittedly caved to temptation after watching a couple of reviews for Necromunda: Hired Gun. It's priced at a discount on Steam and looks to be a decent, if lesser, fusion of Titanfall 2 and DOOM. Looking forward to giving it a try.

ACG be like "yay! This is awesome" but also "there be bugs with audio and AI".

Oh well, couple of patches should sort that out. Little tougher to fix design issues (*cough* CP2077 *cough*) which this game apparently does well with.

For anyone that does grab Necromunda: Hired Gun, I'd ...well, firstly wait until it's been patched a bit on console. Sounds like they all have crash and performance issues. But on PC, I wouldn't trust some of the "auto-detect" settings. I had to do some major adjustments in order to make things even somewhat visible.

It's got some weird controller jank as well, though it looks like that might even be on keyboard + mouse.

Still, first two chapters weren't too bad. Has a sort of old school feel to it.

To be fair. Focus the publisher is not known for their outstanding QA.

Got Operation Tango for free on ps5. Anybody want to play?
