Horizon: Forbidden West - Disassemble all

Ok. I was waiting for someone to make a thread but I’m too excited for this game and it having a thread on the forum will make me feel like it’s close to release. Can’t wait to get out there and catch me some robot dinos and other prehistoric critters.

Looking forward to playing this on my PS4, and doubling up on the trophies when I get a PS5.

Spoiler:

It is my one solace to not being able to buy a PS5.

I like this way of thinking!

Aren't trophies shared between the consoles? Unless there is something like a "GOTY edition" with an expansion.

This is really the main game I've been waiting to come out for the PS5, though I'll still play on PS4 if I can't get my hands on a PS5. I'll definitely preorder this when we get the chance.

Depends on if there's a PS5 version. If it's just a PS4 pro/PS5 performance patch but still the PS4 version of the game then you'll share trophies.

But for Spider-Man, Fenix Immortals Rising, etc. there are separate PS4/PS5 games. For Fenyx, it was buggy installing both versions when I had the disc in and I accidentally started the PS4 version once. So now I have a 0% trophy entry for that game plus my real one for the PS5 version.

Now Spider-Man is special because they added in a way to transfer your PS4 save. So when you import that to the PS5 version, all the trophies pop on the title screen. Pretty funny.

They didn't announce a release date on the state of play? Maybe saving that for E3

It might be my most anticipated game this year. I loved the first one.

OK now I want a PS5

Is this also coming out on PS4? I thought it was only PS5. Good news.

In the early goings, when talking about the PS5, Sony seemed to be saying that most of their games were going to be next gen only but now it looks like there will be PS4 versions in quite a few cases. I’m glad the game looks like a non-compromised PS5 version and I’m not sure how the PS4 will cope with showing us those stunning visuals but if the can get close that’s fantastic.

Yeah the comparisons are going to be very interesting.

I have seen this a couple times and I am just wondering - should I be impressed/excited? It feel pretty natural that games will be able to hit this on the PS5.

I think people are still scared that developers will sacrifice performance for visual fidelity, so it's reassuring to see confirmation that 60 FPS will be there.

I think Forbidden West will make strides forward in nearly all the right places with the superb machine encounters of Zero Dawn becoming even more layered & evolved.

I had three major gripes with the original. The quality of writing for the side quests, the characters you met just weren't anywhere near as interesting as the likes of Sylen's or as well written as the main story thread. It felt like the B team were put on these parts of the game.

Secondly the melee encounters with humans were so one dimensional, that looks to be remedied in FW, with plenty more melee skills being available as you unlock that area of the skill tree.

Lastly some of the major cities just felt hollow, there were areas that you couldn't vault over, invisible walls, stands that were nothing but window dressing, NPC's that said little to nothing. I hope these aspects are a huge step up in FW.

The State Of Play demo looked great, I have to say I'm stunned at how good the environments look considering this thing is still on PS4 & that it's lead development has been on the older console too.

The highlight personally was the underwater section, truly stunning. The music just took you to a whole new world when Aloy dived underneath the water. That change of music with the tranquil pace completely altered the atmosphere in the best possible way. It looks like as much work has went into designing below the sea as there has above it.

I'm so happy with the new mobility options, the pullcaster to quickly snap to grapple points, get out of the way of incoming attacks & hopefully to be able to use it to gain momentum up into the air. The glider makes most open worlds better weather it be Just Cause or Breath Of The Wild. It should finally see exploration get it's due.

I think that'll be me going dark on FW from here on in, that 14 min demo was well enough. I don't want any other tools, awesome looking locations, new machines etc spoiled until I see them for the first time in game.

I've a feeling we won't see this until March or April 2022 but here's hoping it makes it out this Nov/Dec.

I'm so glad that Spikeout pissed in the punchbowl before I arrived!

I too had issues with the first that make me somewhat leery of the sequel. I agree that they definitely need to take a Witcher 3/RDR2 approach to the writing of the side-quests and errands. They compared poorly with the main quest, which had a fantastic story that was told really well during the course of the game. And I agree to about the all the settlements. They weren't very interesting at all.

EDIT 1: And I could live without the dungeons (cauldrons) too! Most of them were incredibly frustrating to navigate, and I never felt the rewards were worth the effort.

I could also do with a lot less farming. Please give me shorter upgrade paths... particularly now that they Aloy of the sequel is fully-equipped with state of the art gear(?)

EDIT 2: Though I know, of course, that the Devs won't give me that. Reasons will be found why Aloy's equipment will once again be at the bottom of a very tall upgrade tree.

What I'd quite like in this one are some companions. For good story reasons, Aloy is alone in Zero Dawn. But I did get slightly bored of being a one-woman army by halfway through. I'd quite like a damage-dealing companion or two that can add a bit more variety to the combat. I thought this was implemented really well in Far Cry 5.

I agree with most of your points there detroit, fingers crossed we see those weaknesses remedied in a big way.

I forgot to post this snippet below:

------------------------------------------------------------------

Q - Speaking of these new traversal methods, how has the level design of this world changed to keep up with all of Aloy’s new tools?

A - Mathijs de Jonge: In the first Horizon, we used a lot of the yellow climbing handholds, specifically placed by designers and artists so the player had one path to climb somewhere. For this game, we wanted to open that up more.

This wasn't so clear in the State of Play, but in the open world of the Forbidden West, you can climb anywhere. You also don't have to ping the Focus all the time. As was explained, the Focus ping is only for places where the light conditions are bad. At night for example, when you cannot see climbing points immediately, you can ping it just to see more clearly. Even without the ping though, you can always climb up places.

We added the glider so you can quickly go down as well, which really speeds up traversal. Now you don't have to go around mountains anymore, like in the previous game. It feels much, much more free.

Hardware Zone - Full Forbidden West Interview

Horizon Forbidden West Has Nine Confusing Editions For Some Reason

Horizon Forbidden West now available for pre-order. Which version you order depends on several factors. Do you need PS4, PS5, or both? Do you want a physical disc? How about a $260 box with both versions, no disc, and a statue of a robot mammoth? You’d think they could make this a little less complicated.

Let’s start off with the most basic versions of the game. There are two different basic digital editions, one for the PlayStation 4 and one for the PlayStation 5. The PS4 version costs $60 and the PS5 is $70. If you purchase the PS4 versions there is no upgrade path to the PS5 version, or at least not yet.

The basic retail version of Horizon Forbidden West is called the Launch Edition. There is one for the PS4 and one for the PS5, $60 and $70 respectively. For $10 more there’s the Special Edition for the PS4 or PS5, which comes packaged in a steelbook with a mini art book and a voucher for the game’s digital pre-order bonuses.

Note that the six different editions we’ve gone over so far are platform-specific. And you can play the PS4 version of Horizon Forbidden West on the PS5 via backward compatibility, but not the other way around.Buying both versions begins with the $80 Digital Deluxe version. It comes with both PS4 and PS5 games, as well as a bunch of digital goodies like a downloadable soundtrack and digital art book. I imagine this means that there might be a $20 upgrade from PS4 to PS5 somewhere down the line, but nothing’s been announced yet. (Update 09/02/2021 1:27 p.m. ET: I’ve been reminded that Sony specifically promised such upgrades. Hmm.)

Now we get fancy. The $200 Collector’s Edition is the version you want if you need a giant mammoth statue. It comes packed with a steelbook case, the mini art book, and the aforementioned mammoth, plus a slew of digital goodies. The Collector’s Edition comes with vouchers for both PS4 and PS5 versions of the game, but no discs. Why is there a steelbook case if there is no disc? Who knows?

Finally we have the most expensive version of them all, the $260 Regalia Edition. It comes with not just a mammoth statue, but a mammoth statue that’s different from the other mammoth statue. There are also a couple of art cards, Sunwing and Clawstrider machine physical strike pieces, a canvas map, and a replica Focus (Aloy’s ear thing) with stand. The Regalia Edition of Horizon Forbidden West also includes digital downloads for both the PS4 and PS5, plus a steelbook for the disc that does not come with it.

Let’s review. To get a game disc you have to choose PS4 or PS5. If you want both versions digitally you have to either get the Digital Deluxe Edition or one of the two super-expensive versions. If you want both versions on disc, you’ll have to buy two copies. And if you absolutely need both versions of the robot mammoth statue, may God have mercy on your soul.

Well, there’s the slippery slope I was expecting after hearing the PS4-to-PS5 upgrade for Ghost of Tsushima was going to cost $10.

Bummed I won't be able to play this until there's a PC version. Best case scenario is I'm waiting until early 2023.

There's something wrong with me. I feel like this makes sense. I can't think of a single argument to defend it, and yet... Great, the 5G in my covid vaccine must be melting my brain.

Has this been announced? It feels like Sony wants to raise the Horizon Franchise to the pantheon of PS darlings a lá The Last of Us or God of War. I would expect this to remain a console exclusive for a few years.

---------EDIT---------------
turns out it absolutely was.
PC release is currently scheduled for February 18th.

Feb 18th is the world wide release date for PS4/PS5. There's no official PC release date but they bought Nixxes and that's a PC port developer. Horizon sold extremely well on PC and Sony execs have spoken, multiple times, about how they want their exclusive games to come out on PC and at a faster timeframe. I'm guessing, at the fastest, it's exclusive to Playstation for a year and then a PC release happens to boost sales again.

I do like steelbooks. Hm.

Pre-ordered mine. This comes out just before my birthday so I know what I'll be doing that weekend.

Taking release day off from work for this. Might take the Monday following that weekend off too.

I’m keeping an eye and ear out for impressions of the PS4 version. I’m excited to hear more about the game and see reviews.

This game is literally the reason I've held onto my PS4.

Just in case folks missed it, the story trailer yesterday sure was pretty

I was talking myself into playing this on the PS4 but it looks so gorgeous I’m not sure I could bring myself to do it. My confidence in the game is skyrocketing.

I broke my no pre-order rule for this since I loved the first and trust the developer. We will see - the last time I did this was for Cyberpunk 2077.

4:36 - what kind of board game do these people play?

I'm going in blind from here, haven't watched the last couple of trailers. This has huge potential. If Guerilla can have lots of interesting parts of the world that are tucked away or hidden up mountains that require climbing, usage of the pullcaster & the shieldwing, this could be the star element that was sorely missing from Zero Dawn.

Reading the IGN preview it really stands out of how much they've improved on the last game weaknesses in a big way. Primarily exploration, saying that most of the world is climbable, the melee combat vs humans, the wooden facial expressions when talking to other NPC's etc.

I still think Forbidden West looks crazy good for being a cross gen game. The comparison videos of the PS4 vs PS5 versions will be interesting to say the least.

Here's the written IGN Forbidden West preview

Silly question probably more appropriate for another place...

If I were to go back and play HZD on my PS5, what settings should I use? I have been thinking of digging back into that for a while now.
