NBA 2020-21 Season Catch-All

I'd go with that. Also, everyone on that team who was a star in the bubble has significantly regressed (I will excuse Jimmy purely on terms of "is old and tired.")

Austin Rivers, really? Maybe stop doubling off him after the 2nd three in the 4th and you win the game. Jeez.

Both late game results sucked

So true... the Jazz were wearing black. BLACK! It is just an offensive money grab.

I’m not saying it’s a money grab. I’m saying I miss being able to tell which team is which.

So is Miami this bad or Milwaukee this good? What has been up with the Heat, they just look like they don't care and don't want to be playing. Burnt out from the long bubble and then short layoff and then slog of a season?

I think it’s a little of both.

Philly has trash fans, btw. I hope the bad karma from that nonsense means no chip for them. Go Nets or Bucks.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I can’t get on board with this idea. First, punishing an entire franchise karmically because of one jackass going too far is a bit much. Second, let’s not pretend there aren’t people who would do this in Milwaukee or New Jersey (or wherever there are Nets fans, iunno).

Edit: ah, to illustrate my point a person at MSG is banned for spitting on Trae Young.

I know humans and sports fans especially can be terrible people but what's going on?

3 Jazz fans also were banned for heckling Morants family? Wtf?

It's like people have been couped up and have reverted to neanderthals.

Neanderthals would be an improvement.

Listened to Bomani Jones’s podcast. He points out that there could be some racial elements to white fans thinking that they can treat back athletes any way that they damn well please.

People have spent too much of the past year on the internet where there are no repercussions and have lost their innate shame of what is socially acceptable.

I think that’s part of it. Also, in general, 4 years of having the actual president convince them that being a racist asshole is a virtue.

I also had the thought about who goes to a packed sports stadium in a pandemic. My guess is a significant percentage have to be the same kind of people that thought nothing of going to bars in a pandemic and harassing the staff. For them Westbrook is “the staff”.

Good point about the type of people willing to go to a crowded arena in a pandemic where less than 50% of the population is vaccinated.

Ja Morant's dad Tee told ESPN that one of the banned Jazz fans said to him: "I'll put a nickel in your back and watch you dance, boy."

Another made a sexually explicit remark to Ja's mom Jamie. The third told her: "Shut the f--- up, b----."

Not only are they racist f*ckwads, but they paid premium $$$ to do it

Rich people are often racists. It is far easier to exploit someone when you think that they are beneath you.

And to be rich, you need to either actively, or at least passively, exploit people.

Couple of boring afternoon games. Bucks move on. Portland gives themselves a chance by evening it up.

Huge answer by the Jazz when they lost the lead for the first time, then boom 10-0. Trailed for less than 20 seconds.

The players should consider holding out en masse until teams can get this sorted out. It’s not right and a year after the George Floyd protests, to have fans who shouldn’t even be in the arena treating them this way is beyond the pale.

I liked the bubble better

Boston should have to hold their next two home playoff games behind closed doors.

If someone’s sole criteria for selecting teams to root for is the behavior of their fan base then you are probably going to be watching a ton of golf and tennis.

How would you suggest the league sort it out? All I can think of is pull the pre-cogs from Minority Report.

Actually now that I give it some more thought, they could barricade the players behind plexiglass like hockey.

Penalize teams a draft pick. Award technicals based on fans attacking players. Punish franchises by disallowing fans from future games (seems like the most obvious option).

Bottom line is we’re in the middle of a pandemic, where even having fans is questionable. If the league can’t protect the players now, under a year after the players last walked out over racial justice, the players should walk out again.

Perfect. Even better just don’t seat fans in the lower bow until they can get their sh*t together.

I would argue the league should compel them, the Sixers, the Jazz, and any other group of fans who can't behave to do similar. If your fans can't be respectful human beings, then they don't get to watch, and if your arena can't be held to the minimum standard of players not getting stuff thrown at them or racially insulted, then you don't get to sell tickets, overpriced parking and food, etc.

I should take this to the police state thread

Sorry guys but these are ideas that will never go anywhere. A league made of teams is not going to pass measures that alter the success and profitability of their fellow teams based on a few townies getting housed and throwing popcorn at someone. It isn’t a realistic ratio of punishment severity. If anything they’ll have the team do more community events focusing on social justice or something.

The law is generally built with the idea in mind that you shouldn’t severely penalize someone for infractions that are not reasonably within their control. Not saying it’s evenly applied. But teams can’t know which fan is going to misbehave until they do it. If the Sixers let that guy back in? Then throw the book at them.

I can’t figure out for the life of me: why does anyone give a sh*t if Kyrie steps on the Celtics center logo mascot? If they don’t want it stepped on they shouldn’t put it on the floor.

Talk to Euro Football about what the league will do to protect players BE.

I don’t know anyone from Euro football to talk to, but you could summarize maybe?

Have the fans fight each other?

Not sure there's anything to learn from across the pond. I think the worst they do is force games behind closed doors?

The current trend is players quitting social media platforms because they are getting abused directly there.

This is why I’m saying the players should walk out. You joke about this being a police state issue, but it’s a race issue.
