Yeah, Every time I see that Amazon alert from brobot, no love from Amazon. Think I’m going to go for the 5800.

My success on this order actually happened after Brobot had revised its message to say that Amazon was again out of stock. There's a trick to dealing with this situation, which took me a while to figure out over the past couple of weeks of trial & error:

1) Get notification that it's in stock.

2) Open the 5900X page.

2a) If you see an "add to cart" button for MSRP $549, then click it and go to #3.
2b) If you don't, then click the small "New & Used" link to open the side panel.
2c) If you see an "add to cart" button for MSRP $549, then click it and go to #3.
2d) If you don't, then F5 to reload the page and go back to #2 and try again.

3) If you see a page that says something like "that item is no longer in stock, item not added to cart", then F5 to reload the page, and click the browser's "resend form fields" button or whatever. Keep doing this until you see "item successfully added to cart", then click to check out and go to #4.

4) If you see a cart checkout page that says something like "out of stock" and the quantity of the 5900X in your cart is 0 and it gives a button to "save quantities", then DO NOT CLICK THAT "SAVE QUANTITIES" BUTTON. Also DO NOT CLICK THE "CONFIRM SHIPPING ADDRESS" BUTTON IF THE CART SHOWS QTY 0.
4a) Instead, you guessed it: F5 to reload the page! Keep doing that until it updates to show Qty 1 in your cart. Once it says Qty 1, then you can safely click "confirm shipping address", "confirm payment details", etc. Complete the check out process as fast as humanly possible. You might have to try this step many times.

I didn't realize page-reloading worked with Amazon's checkout process. This was a game-changer for me. I was always worried that it was going to try to sneak in a scalper's listing. Remember, you can always change the shipping address and payment details later, after the order is confirmed. Or cancel it altogether if something's gone really wonky. Amazon shouldn't complete the charge until the order ships, so you have some time.

So I checked in here looking for advice or help on getting a not (too) overpriced new GPU, and found a mention of the "merphle method". Seems promising! Just have one question: what is a brobot?

Google “brobot telegram” and pick whichever one is appropriate for situation (ryzen 5950 cpu, nvidia 3089 gpu, etc), then follow the link to set up a Telegram account and subscribe to the list. It’s basically a one-way notification ping whenever the bot notices availability.

So, it's not you manually telling me when stock is in? merphle method sucks, I thought you'd do it all FOR me!?!?!

Ah, a telegram bot! ok, will do Already have a telegram account, so half the work already done. Thanks!

Edit: Looks like brobot is America only? Which is a shame, it probably won't help much then

For what it’s worth, I’ve been using the FixItFixItFixIt Twitter feed (and sometimes YT stream) with phone notifications, which is annoying but *seems* to ping out faster and more regularly than Brobot. Still not a whiff of success for me, so who knows if any of the extra pings are worth a damn, but it’s another option to look at.

Newegg having a shuffle right now. But it looks like all the GPU options are bundled with PSU. Annoying, pushing the price up over $8-900 for the 3070s.

Still, 90 minutes left if you want to try your luck. Couple of CPUs too

I used the discord server for FixItFixItFixIt. The bots ping the discord channel and I mute all the ones I don't care about. Took a while but eventually I got the AMD 5950x I was hunting for using it.

I had been doing the shuffle for my CPU, but research shows that your odds are close to a percent of a percent unfortunately.

Are there still nvidia 20xx cards releasing? Some of us would like to spend $300 instead of $600 on a GPU?

I can't find any bots or twitter accounts for 20xx cards.

Any comments on my proposed build? Probably going to start ordering the parts tonight.

The CPU is obviously already purchased and I'll be transferring my 1070 for now until GPU availability/prices return to some semblance of sanity.

Any feedback is welcome. Haven't built a system in several years now and I don't have the time to stay on top of the custom build meta like I used to.

To give yourself room for expansion you may want to look at an 850W PS. 750W can handle what you are putting in there but the 30XX tend to be power hungry and you want a couple hundred watt headroom to maximize efficiency. I have a 750W gold right now and with the 1080ti I have that head room but when I upgrade the video card I will probably need to upgrade the PS too.

After trying to score a GPU for six months with no success, I finally said to hell with it and bought an Xbox Series X. I placed it right next to my computer and connected it to the same monitor.

So I will now just pretend I have upgraded my PC until I get the chance to do so for real.

Newegg is just messing with us now, filling their shuffle up with tea kettles and crap, and just one overpriced 3070.

How many teraflops can the kettle do?

Not many, but I hear it works great with Steam

Very nice!

I was going to say not a lot but I bet you can play Doom on it.

So the alpha? of UE5 has been released and the reason I mention it is that it seems to have a DLSS competitor built in. (temporal super resolution) So it would seem we don't have to wait on AMD and it has the benefit of working on Xbox, PS5 and AMD or intel graphics. It claims that it will upscale to 4K quality while only having the burden of rendering 1080p.

Here is the alpha features video:

I've been messing around with UE5 all day. I love the new UI changes as everything is so much more clear. Some of the reflections are bugged with Lumion at the moment though. Having Quixel integrated into the UI has completely changed my workflow. It's amazing how fast can crate my ArchViz renderings now. Not to mention it's a ton more fun than rendering in Vray.

Yesterday I spray painted the black plastic cable covers of the Phanteks p500A to a glossy white so it can pick up more of that sweet RGB. Love the way it turned out! My FPS gameplay should definitely be better now I my RGB is brighter.

How the f*ck did I fail to realize I could just pull cables from the basement straight up to the GPU, instead of stupidly running them all the way around the back like all of my other cables.

Yeah that little opening for GPU PCIe power is a great feature of this case.

Yeah that was obviously where the GPU power goes. I thought about putting the mobo power there too but ended up going around.

It's such an obvious thing. I hope it become standard.

An extra couple inches on the motherboard power cable would also be a nice, new standard feature. I always struggle with that.

Arrgh. There was a stock drop at Best Buy this morning. Towards the end, I managed to get a card in my cart. But, then it just showed "no availability in your area".

I was able to click on a 3060! That's seriously farther than I've ever gotten at BB's site.

Go ahead. Touch it.

Yeah I saw the add to cart button and clicked. Then it popped up a wait thing for it to turn yellow again, but I never saw that happen.

I added 5 different ones to my cart... all turned yellow... when I clicked it said no longer available...

Damnit

Yeah, similar experience here for the past few Best Buy drops. Very frustrating. I think I might give up altogether until availability increases, whenever that will be.

I've watched successful buyers slowly trickle into this thread over time. You just gotta keep rolling the dice.

I got one into my cart, literally within a couple of seconds of the bots all pinging off, and Best Buy had logged me out. (*****!) When I got my password in and back through the 2FA, I still got as far as confirm order, but it bombed out after that, as the local pickup locations dried up. (It kept telling me to pick a new location, which I'd do, and then nothing.) By the time I circled back to the many other cards in the drop, nothing could load into a cart.

This whole thing is such a fiasco.

This. I was one of the lucky ones. Eventually.

When Best Buy does get a 3060 or 3060 Ti in stock, what do they sell them for?
