Biomutant Catch-All

I've been able to skip through the narration as long as it's not a cut-scene. The only bit of dialogue I've not liked is the Good vs Evil angels.

Really vibing with this goofy game so far. Extremely early on as I've only just exited the first base after aligning myself.

I re-rolled my character after not liking the initial look I chose and not particularly enjoying the class. Decided t go with Mercenary. I'm playing on hard.

Apparently you shouldn't worry about cosmetic look at character creation. You can change you appearance not much further into the campaign.

I wanted to like the Psi freak but I also switched to Merc and am definitely liking it better. I think I might reroll AGAIN and figure out a good unarmed build. It looks like that gets a lot of fun perks.

The deadeye isn't the way I wanted to play the game but it is the one I had the most fun with.

That's exactly what I did. The two handed swords is just more aesthetically pleasing than the lightning hands.

I knew about it but my first character looked way too much like a green rat and I didn't want to stare at it much longer.

Is everyone playing the “Light” path so far?

I am! Digging it so far

staygold wrote:

Yeah. I would normally but they really don't sell any reason to do the other. What kind of person would want the world to die?
They needed to sell the idea that "dark" was still saving lives but just in a different way.

I’m pretty far into the game. I’m about level 15. I find the light and dark stuff confusing and superfluous. It seems all the decisions are meaningless. Every time I make a decision it then still give me the chance to choose light or dark points, (I think?) and the conversation to choose doesn’t make sense. I’ll make a decision and then the little devils show up and It’s worded so weird I never know which is to confirm I want light points or dark points. I also haven’t noticed any changes besides what psi abilities you can access. I could be missing a lot of stuff besides I find the dialogue presentation so annoying I’m skipping through it as much as possible while trying to skim what was said. The dialogue system has completely disconnected me from the story and characters. I don’t care about any of them and get a little resentful when I have to talk to them because it’s such a chore and they have no personality. I would prefer just a task board that tells me what my next objective is so I don’t have to talk to anyone of them.

This also sounds really negative, but I am having some fun with the game. It’s a difficult game to discuss because the sum of its parts are mediocre but the quality of the parts vary so much. So instead of everything being a 5ish level of middle of the road, you get a lot of parts that are 8s and a lot parts that are 2s and they average out to a 5. So if you are talking about the 2s (like the dialogue system) it seems super negative. But so far I’m enjoying the 8s more than I’m annoy by the 2s

I am about level 5 now and really enjoying it. I get it where the dialogue parts can turn people off but I am just skipping a lot of it or fast forwarding it. I am loving the exploration, combat and aesthetics of the world. It's not often I get to play a fox character with a power glove and psi powers.

I initially was going to go down the middle, but saw that psi abilities are locked behind specific aura levels. Ended up going light because there's more skills on that side that i want to try than the other.

One tip that I’ve found is to disassemble your weapons and gear regularly. I’ve found it difficult to compare items because when you pick up a new shirt it compares the base stat to the combined stat on your currently equipped item, so base plus add-ons. Same with weapons. I’ve found every couple levels if I deconstruct my stuff, especially weapons, I can rebuild things much stronger. I also use all kinds of weapons. I don’t think it matters much to stick to one class.

Here my guy is at level 9, in all his mismatched glory!

Tried the Porky Puff World Eater this morning. Wow is that ever a rough boss mechanic. Guess I'll have to look up a guide on this one.

Spoiler:

You're stuck on your jetski with only a ranged weapon and have to tow bombs underneath it and detonate them at the exact right time. All the while it's splashing around and making near un-dodgeable waves that deal 15% of your health damage so the fight was just a bunch of health potion chugs and fighting to position a bomb just right. Apparently it's also invulnerable until it's been bombed so you can't just chip away at it's health from range. But then it also has these weakspots on it's paws that do 1% health damage.

I've barely had any time to play. The game still seems to be tutorializing me. I haven't quite got the flow of combat down yet but when I play, I'm enjoying it quite a bit.

I'm getting weird inconsistent slow-down. This would be the first game that I've experienced that with my new PC.

It's funny that between this and Outriders, 2021 is a great year for games that feel like they fell out of the 360.

I took down Jumbo Puff and it took me a couple turns to understand the mechanic

Spoiler:

When you go back up it's ass (yes I said that) you have to Climb UP and not try to swim.

Also two of the most widely derided and criticized games of the year interestingly enough. I wonder if the dearth of AAA releases is causing a gap where people fill their expectations with so-called AA titles.

Why am I finding level 15 pants at level 9? This is poor design, you find something that looks like an upgrade then oops, no, you cant use this for another 4-5 hours of gametime.

As I understand the mechanics, all loot is randomized. So the Googlide Engine Level 2 is somewhere in one of the 9 Googlide boxes in the world. Same goes for armour and weapons. Although I still have yet to pick up a world weapon which I find odd. Lots of parts but no weapons.

I get hats. Tons and tons of hats. I'm currently level 16 and can open a hat shop if I want. I definitely agree with the lack of weapons, although the fan blade I found is a great melee weapon, and I was able to craft a gun that hits for around 500 points on average. It's going well so far, although I don't think I've progressed the main story much. 10 hours in and I just beat the first Worldeater. Wasn't too terrible of a fight as I've been running around collecting stuff and doing a lot of the side quests.

Overall I really enjoy the game. Just exploring (although I have found the same building layout more than two or three times heh) and taking the game one hour at a time.

Edit: I figured out how to use the Shellhorns!

Spoiler:

It's gated by going to Gaga Grampus Bay town and speaking to the quest giver

I was having horrific Googlide Wreckbox upgrade luck, opened 5 of them without a level 2 upgrade and then lucked into getting the level 3 engine on my 6th box! So now all the ocean is open to me and there's SOOOOO much to explore. Lots of really fun little islands to poke around at the edges of the world.

Made progress last night and the world has started to open up. Really digging everything this game is doing. There's a lot of rough edges but the world is bright and colourful with interesting places to explore. I don't mind the simplified laundry-list quests or that everything is just a combat encounter.

I love the crafting system. Other than the tribe weapons and your starting gear, I'm not sure if you'll ever loot too many full weapons. It seems like I'll get a weapon base and build out from there. I've redone my melee weapons a couple of times now.

How do I charge and activate Super Wung Fu? I saw a tutorial earlier in the week but can't seem to get it going.

Vector wrote:

To Charge:
1) Complete an attack that builds Super Wung Fu charge. You typically have to unlock these from the character Wung Fu upgrade screen. They're usually a combo of X-X-Y or RT-RT-Y depending on the weapons (I think tribe weapons have more unique options. The boomerang has an A-A-Y and a B-X-RT combo for instance)
2) Alternate Wung Fu attacks. You can't just spam a single attack to build your charge, you have to alternate. So I'll typically to my ranged charge (RT-RT-Y) dash in to get the melee charge (X-X-Y) and another range to power it up.

To Use:
1) You'll see a little meter fill up with stances for each alternating attack you complete (I think too much damage resets charge, but sometimes I can't tell exactly in the fury of combat). On controller press LB+RB to activate
2) You can then do one of four attacks:
- Pressing X repeatedly will target a single enemy and unleash a BUNCH of damage into them while flinging them into the air if they're small
- Jumping (A) then X, will do an aerial slam on a single enemy, damaging multiple around it
- Pressing Y basically does a goomba stomp
- You could also just shoot super fast if you want as well
3) Important note, you're not invincible in Super Wung Fu so I find the goomba stomp less useful because enemies often land a bunch of hits on you while you're pounding them. All the melee attacks inflict stun in Super Wung Fu so it's really good against bigger enemies that are harder to stun

Are weapon elemental damage pieces based on map location? I've got close to a dozen now and they're all radiation and not seen any others yet.

Don't know if it's always been there...

Yeah the option has been at least. For the people who hate the narrator you can turn the frequency to zero and turn subtitles on right from the start of the game.

You will still hear plenty of the narrator even with it set to zero, but Ive gotten used to him by now.

Playing as Deadeye and the sharpshooter perk is blatantly op, should prob be nerfed a bit as it suddenly turns combat to easy mode with any half decent rifle.

Still enjoying the game, love tinkering with my gear and finding new stuff and exploring even though Im not at all invested in the game story.

I'm curious what happened for folks on the "light" path when you defeated the first world-eater.

On the dark path:

Spoiler:

You still "defeat" the world eater, but then mysteriously release it to the world tree after. So now I've got a Puff chilling halfway up one of the roots on the world tree.

Then I get a quest to go to the world tree and find one of the Toxanol spaceships under the tree and the old guy tells me I can bring two others on the UFO with me if the world dies.

What I'm assuming happens is that the light path plays out similar and basically the canonical endings are identical except the light path saves the world tree but the dark path destroys it?

Spoiler:

yea we still get the old man UFO and him telling us we can bring 4 to the ark.
