Biomutant Catch-All

I couldn't hold out any longer, so I am part of the preorder crowd. It looks too pretty and fun to not jump on right away, also I wanted access to the Mercenary class from the jump.

Awesome! It's the cute dudes that hooked me as well

Yeah...I ended up preordering from a GreenmanGaming a month or so ago because they had a good deal and I wanted the extra class. I'm deep in a Subnautica: Below Zero hole so I won't be getting to this until I'm done that but I'm excited to jump on this when the opportunity comes.

Biomutant - Gameplay Footage (Xbox Series X)

Biomutant: 10 Things You NEED TO KNOW

I’m very curious about this game and am looking forward to reviews. I love open world action rpg’s with fun combat where I can turn on a podcast and zone out as I quest and level. This looks like it could be that. Just Cause 2 was one of my favorite podcasts games (though JC3 & 4 were a disappointment) and the Biomutant developers are former Avalanche developers. I’m a little turned off that one of the classes is a preorder bonus.

No kidding!

Is that weapon at 7:03 made of what I think it's made of?!

I pre-ordered on XBox, and I don't often pre-order anything. Hopefully it will get some sort of bump on Series X.

Newegg has $10 off coupon for the Xbox One digital edition that brings it down to $49.99

I think you need to be signed up for their emails for the code to work but I just tried it and it worked.

I will keep watching but damm I wish Conan would shut up a bit more. He tries way to hard

This video has some interesting spoiler free tips. I found it particular interesting that at the character creator focus on stats instead of appearance because you can modify your appearance later without affecting your stats.

I have been totally hyped for this but just pre-ordered. Some recent videos give me concern of way too much bullet sponginess. There is one boss fight where the streamer does the fight with each of the different classes. In some cases the trash minions seem more spongey as the boss. For other classes, they both seem mega spongey.

I think one of the other concerns is that I had hopes for most if not all of the classes. But while watching the videos, I am not sure I gravitated towards any of them. The game is unique enough and the customization seems incredible so I am happy with the purchase. (especially at the GMG 26% pre-order discount)

Good videos. Now I am ready for reviews.

Every review I’ve read says the same things

-repetitive and poor quest design (fetch-quests)
-beautiful as hell with outstanding art design
-buggy with frequent crashes
-lots of systems that don’t fit together
-combat can actually be very fluid

I’m a big fan of bizarre European RPGs (Witcher 1, Risen, ELEX, Mutant Year Zero) so this fits right in with those for me.

Yeah, I'm not expecting glowing reviews on this one, but it still looks cool and weird and I have absolutely nothing else to play right now so I went ahead and preordered.

Same here what Vector and AcidCat said. I am expecting an odd, beautiful open world game with cool combat and looks like that is exactly what it is. I wasn't expecting extensive quests and character building NPC's in this one..I have other titles to squelch that thirst.

I just used this and it is still working.

I was hesitant because it doesn't seem like a AAA title but I like small developers, I think the look is unique so I am considering it as much helping them make more games as enjoying this one.

Currently saying they are out of stock.

I’m still undecided. The boring story complaints don’t bother me. I don’t pay much attention to the story of most games. If the mechanics are fun and engaging, I love putting on a podcast and just doing my thing. But the mechanics have received mixed reviews too. $50 would be tempting.

*edit*

And now 3 hours later I have already received the code from NewEgg and started installing the game.

*edit*

I got that message too but I am assuming it will still be available tomorrow - mostly because I don't see how serial numbers / activation numbers can be "out of stock" I assume that just means they need to get an email from Microsoft with a file that has activation numbers and they send them out. It isn't like MS needs to press more copies.

I can deal with mixed reviews, goodness knows I've enjoyed many games for their style and setting rather than strong stories or deep mechanics, but then there are the reports of crashes and bugs. As much as I'd like pick it up, I'm probably going to hold off for some stability patches and maybe a sale.

And it is playable already. I down loaded it and am now going into the character creator

Bugs seems like a smaller issue than bad quests etc. Bugs have a better chance of getting fixed.
How do they spend so many years, with delays, only to end up with repetitive fetch quests. That one seems like an obvious thing to try not to do.

I ended up getting it with the $10 off code through Newegg. My super early impressions after an hour or two.

It definitely feels like a remastered 360 game. That’s not necessarily bad, but it doesn’t feel modern.

The way they handle dialogue is very annoying. When you talk to someone, you hear them say stuff in gibberish and then the narrator translates. It makes things take twice as long.

I don’t think I’ve experienced enough of the combat to say much besides it feels fine. I feel like it’s button mashy, but that could easily be me being bad at action games and not having enough familiarity with the combat systems.

I’ve just got to the first area where there is some loot. The loot and crafting could be cool if it ends up having a noticeable impact on the gameplay.

I’m still in the tutorial parts. The game did open up a little but it’s still the first quest chain that shows you how all the different missions work. I’m hoping when the game opens up it gets more interesting.

EDIT: I put in a couple more hours and my experience has improved a lot. I’m starting to get a hang of the combat and it’s generally fun. I crafted some stuff that seems cool, like an electrified sword.

The game is menu dense with lots of systems around upgrades, add-on’s, crafting, powers, special moves, perks etc. I haven’t wrapped my head around all of it.

There is so much of the game that isn’t polished. A lot of it feels like a double A mid-tier game from 10 years ago. But it does have a certain charm. I’m looking forward to playing more.

Kind of annoying that the game is out but I don't have my key from GreenmanGaming yet.

Same!

I thought this was a global release at the same time. How did you guys get to play early? I'm looking forward to playing tonight. What I've watched on Twitch and read up on seems really cool.
