There's been some leaks from inside Bliz recently that indicate 9.1 is likely to be much later than most people expected. (Source: a couple of recent vids from Bellular Gaming.) Bottom line: maybe June if we're lucky, but more likely July or August.

I'd be curious to learn the why at some point. Is it story or game systems or what?

That would make it the longest content drought this side of WOD.

One assumes Covid is at least partially to blame for all of this going back to late 2019. One thing that I do appreciate that keeps me playing right now is controller support. My wrists are bad which keeps me away from most M&K games and having native controller support has been a huge reason why I’m still playing. If not I’d probably switch to FFXIV.

Have they updated the controller support at all since they first patched it in? My wife is still using JoyToKey because we couldn't get the native interface to behave how she wanted.

I don't know if its updated or not but I use an addon called ConsolePort which is essentially a GUI for the native controller support. It's pretty comprehensive but give it some time and you can get it to work really well.

Console Port is great and has been for years but it has the same problem the base WoW client did: you have to use the triggers as modifier keys; you don't have the option to use them as action buttons. My wife learned to use a controller with Halo, so to her the triggers are her primary inputs. And she learned to work more-inputs-than-buttons controls by doing lights for rock concerts, so she's used to paging between banks of buttons in time-sensitive situations. Until the native interface supports that we're stuck with JoyToKey. Which is fine, except the camera controls either use the keyboard inputs for turning (which is bad enough, but it's especially offensive to me when I'm mapping them to an analog input) or having her send random right-clicks out into the world whenever she adjusts her view. She accidentally pulled a raid boss like that once and has since vetoed that as an option...

I was playing regularly and now that there's little left to do until the next patch I just stopped. Not really that interested in leveling up another character at the moment.

I haven't played Wow for over 10 years. Cataclysm maybe?

I might just dip my toes in this. Feeling some sort of nostalgia.

Where does someone who hasn't played in over 10 years even start? lol Buy the Shadowlands expansion right away?

Nah, just download and play. The free stuff will let you know if you like it. Then you can decide on SL, just a sub, or not bothering.

Is the new leveling experience only with the SL?

Nope. Starts at 1/10 depending on if you select the tutorial or whatever it's called.

Play free to 20. then sub a month and level. If u get to a point where u need shadowlands then get shadowlands and continue

Playing Wow just brings back so many memories. Good memories of raiding back in vanilla and TBC. Crazy its been over 12 years already and this game still holds up well.

During the tutorial island I always get a LUA error with the interface. No mods, any idea why this is happening?

Maybe run a repair of your installation? (You should be able to do that within the launcher somewhere)

LUA errors relate to addons. You can also go into the install directory and delete the addons folder to be extra sure there isn't anything out of date lingering.

Strange. It's a brand new install on a drive that's never had a Wow installation.

It's possible there's a bug in the default interface. That's why I started using interface mods so many years ago--to work around a bug in the default UI.

That seems to be an interface bug. Disabling the tutorials is one way around it.

We now know how flying will be unlocked in 9.1. Turns out Blizzard are being uncharacteristically generous this time around. All you have to do is complete the first three (of seven) chapters in the 9.1 campaign. That's all; no rep grinding, no other achievements, nothing else. The chapters are expected to be time gated to take 2-3 weeks to get that far after 9.1 drops, but that's all.

Also, flying is unlocked account wide. As soon as you complete the 3 chapters with one character, all your characters can fly in Shadowlands immediately.

No flying in Oribos, Maw, or Korthia (the new 9.1 zone), just in the four currently existing faction zones. Although there was a faint hint that this may eventually be relaxed in Maw and/or Korthia.

Flying should help tremendously. It is my big complaint for the Shadowlands zones, they are beautiful to look at but have too many unnecessary switch backs and dead ends to slow you down.

It will really help with vampiropolis.

I hope 9.1 releases soon. the game has hit major stagnation and I haven't touched it in weeks now.

I hear you. I still play every day, and just finished leveling #4 (Destro Warlock, after BM Hunter, Feral Druid and Assass Rogue), but definitely feeling the blahs.

This.
Just stopped my sub, we will see after patch releases if I want to continue. Although I did really enjoy getting back into wow at the start of SL.

Breaking news: 9.1 comes out June 29.

Acc to what I saw on Twitter, this is the longest opening patch in a while.

Draenor was 103 days or 221 days to the first patch, depending on how you define "patch." For Legion, it was 56 days. BFA, 119 days.

By the time 9.1 hits, Shadowlands will have been out 218 days. An eternity!

That's great news, but you'll have to forgive me if I don't immediately re-sub. It's been so long, I've completely lost all sense of momentum and/or desire to continue.

Uh, you're forgiven?

I stay subbed bc I'm not sure what I'd do instead. Maybe go outside more or something.

I'm liking SL so far. If you like raiding, there doesn't seem to be much to do. But if you like grinding and collecting, well, this is the expansion for you.

Is there anyone on Greymane that would help me add a couple of characters to my "just me" guild?

If you have guild power you should be able to advertise the guild then log on ur toon and request invite then log back on and accept invite I believe.

Oh sweet, Medmay. I will give that a try when my 9.1 finishes updating. Thank you!

EDIT: Super Kudos to Medmay. Worked like a charm! I hadn't started an alt in quite a while, and I missed or ignored the addition of the option. Very cool. Thank you again.

So is 9.1 everything we always dreamed of?
