Random thing you love right now that doesn't deserve its own thread

Just got home from work. Needed something positive to rebalance with. Stumbled upon this. Give it a watch if you're in need of a calm and/or a happy booster.

I'll stop with the Alanis adoration. Taking over the thread! That was just too awesome not to go once more, though.

One more day, and I have two weeks off of teaching for Greece's (normal) extended dance remix Greek Orthodox Easter holidays. I need this rest so much.

Also, that day (tomorrow), is my 50th birthday, so once I stop teaching in early afternoon, the plan is me barbecuing pork ribs in the backyard, while drinking somewhat continuously. Not sure if the plan is for me to be too drunk to drunk post tomorrow. But maybe. (also, I'm a total light weight, so after 2 drinks, I'm pretty much smushified).

Do some blackout drunk posts. Once the hangover is gone you get to find out what you’d said the day before.

Thread of hand-embroidered animations.

Shalalm Baskur, everyone.

Our offspring suffers from arthritis. We bought Doc a massage/heat chair. I hear the massage feature a lot. It's the simple things.

That hand embroidered animation is amazing. That seems like the type of thing you’d only do once.

As a MD specialized in public health, I’d strongly advise against that. ^^

Levar Burton finally announced as Jeopardy guest host for July.

Still hoping he gets the permanent job.

Totally!

edit
and eff memet oz

It's so weird that there's this long-standing internet brigade trying to get them to ask LeVar, and somebody at the show is like "hey we should call that fake diet pill guy"

Ya. One’s a beloved actor and truly genuine person who has inspired millions of people, and the other is an egomaniacal snake oil salesman who has abused his position as a respected medical professional in order to become outlandishly wealthy by violating the trust of his adoring fans.

One has inspired millions, the other has bilked millions.

Hear, hear!

I would love to see Oz jailed for his crimes.
A girl can dream...

He got a two-parter on the Behind the Bastards podcast last week. The weird thing about him was that before he turned to the dark side, he was at or near the top of his actual field; he's genuinely an amazingly talented surgeon. Then he got into 'energy healing' and other woo, and figured he could make more money selling nonsense to millions than surgery to hundreds.

Oops

I love the idea that shows/movies about competent people is a genre.

33 Movies and TV Shows That Are Basically 'Competence Porn'

Thank you to that list for not picking The West Wing. Seriously, everyone says Sorkin is competence porn, but like, the Bartlet administration never accomplishes anything.

I thought that was the ultimate point. The uselessness of the idealized hyper-competent White House from Sorkin's imagination is indicative of the core problem with American politics.

I think I've seen 27 of that list and I love them all. I guess I really need to go watch The Americans. And maybe Haikyuu!!

I love that only Kill Bill vol 1 is on there and not 2.

I loved the cheese fest that was Xena for just this : she was always one step ahead of her enemies.

I feel like I've learned a lot over the past year, on a variety of topics: epidemiology, the Japanese language, the English language, fiction writing, drawing, time management, sleep, game programming, and whatever uninteresting bullsh*t I had to learn for work.

But the most important thing I learned is:

If you're having a good day, don't ask yourself why, don't question it, just f*cking enjoy it.

The Americans is amazing, right from the beginning. I also loved Hidden Figures and The Martian, of course.

Yes, but I don't think that was an intentional or even conscious choice on Sorkin's part.

I wanted to see the list, but I'm really not a fan of slide-shows so I try not to give them clicks whenever possible. Some of the stuff you guys have listed though will be put on my list. I love some competence porn.

I was hoping the permanent host would be a choice between Levar Burton and Mayim Bialik (the famous woman crush I've had the longest, besides Candy Loving.)

So you're hoping her TV show gets canceled?

If they did, their fictional environment would diverge too strongly from the real one.

Beer (:

maybe it's a slideshow on desktop, but I'm my phone it's just one long beautiful list.

My 7yo daughter has a strong fear of getting water in her ears during baths or swimming. It’s been a struggle for a long time, but today, I finally convinced her to try some ear plugs, and she was able to get her head under water for the first time and loved it! Her bath was suddenly twice as long she kept wanting to go under. So proud of her right now!
