Help me build my PC 2020 Catch All

HWINFO is indeed the way to go for system monitoring.

I've been using NowInStock.net for their stock alerts, but the Amazon alerts seem just about useless. Even if I'm on the alert the second it pops, there's no chance of getting a card from Amazon.

I missed the last BB stock drop, as I was in surgery and unconscious. I'm hopeful that the next one might work out better, but it seems like those happen about once per month.

I've been signing up for the NewEgg Shuffle every day there's a 3070 or 3080 on it, but no luck so far.

I've been on the EVGA wait list for months.

Am I missing any way to increase my chances of getting a new video card? Anything else I should be looking at that doesn't involve giving money to a filthy scalper?

Drop NowInStock, they're far too slow for this. Ignore all Amazon alerts. Use Brobot's alerts via Telegram.

I thought the BB drops are about once a week or so. That's how I got my 5900 and 3080 in the last two months or so.
My strategy with Best Buy: Use container tabs and mutiple browsers. Keep an eye on the Add to Cart button and wait for it to turn back yellow after you get the "one more step" message. Be patient, sometimes it takes 10-15 minutes for the button to go active again. I spent about 40 minutes trying different alert links as they came in on the day I finally grabbed a GPU.
It took me a number of attempts like that over the course of 6-8 weeks before I was successful. I also wasn't being picky about GPU. I tried every link for every 3070 and 3080, and was ready to purchase any I got through checkout.

Newegg daily email had some ABS system with a GTX 3060 in it last night around midnight. I clicked on it a few minutes later and it was sold out. Not sure if people are even using the systems or just buying them for the video card.

Pretty crazy out there.

I mean I could just buy a new Alienware with a 3080 in it and have it delivered in a few weeks, but I literally just put together a full new build. Wish I'd figured that out earlier...

Best Buy and AMD drops were how I secured my 3070 and 5600x respectively. At MSRP. Watch your bot of choice for drops from those vendors. Everything else like Amazon etc stock is gone by the time you will get an alert.

I used fixitfixitfixit on discord. He also streams on YouTube.

Same here, man. Same here.

Yeah apparently Amazon did some 3060 TI and 3070 drops today. But by the time I see a tweet it's out of stock.

I'm not looking, I'm not looking...

Spoiler:

Hope all went well!

Just ordered a Zotac 3080 from eBay for MSRP. We'll see if it actually ships. I've had to dispute a purchase with eBay once before, and it was super easy, so if this is a scam, I'm not overly concerned.

Brand new seller with zero feedback - I'mma let you be the guinea pig on that one.

Not gonna lie though, I was tempted to hit Buy Now too....

9 sold, 1 left...

I hear ya. Could be a total sucker bet. We'll see!

If it does arrive, then I'll have to deal with the card being 8mm longer than my case officially supports. Might have to break out the old Dremel!

If it does arrive, I'll be cursing my inner cynic!

Thanks for the link. Very close to buying one myself, but by the time I looked up the dimensions my case could support, it was too late. Looks like it's a questionable fit, so I'll have to appease myself with that info if it turns out to be a legit listing.

I'm actually slightly optimistic for you.

Looking at the eBay listings in general was not fun though. $2000+ average for cards that should only be $900 at the absolute most. Ugh. I probably have to stay away from eBay or I might impulse buy a 3080 that’s “just” $1600 or something.

interesting category it was being sold under.

Yeah, now there’s a batch of inexpensive Palit cards also being sold under car and truck light bulbs. Also from Louisiana. Hmm.

maybe they fell off the back of some cars and trucks?

Damn, it doesn't fit my pickup.

If anyone wants to chance it or is just curious- 8 palit 3080’s in the headlight section for $900.

Edit: and it’s gone. Guessing eBay didn’t like the look of it.

Yall really should buy a prebuilt and sell the prebuilt after stealing the gpu. Don't bother with all this fake crap going round. Ebay seller was "richguy-16"? lol Asshole

Anyway, did a Cinebench last night on the new rig and the results are what you'd expect. (I didn't restart my pc when I ran it, so I expect the score is a tad lower than it would be if I had bothered to get it in perfect condition for the test. Really I was mostly trying to stress the cpu and check the temps, which topped out at 70 degrees. Woot!)

Score puts it basically at the 3600X, a bit faster than a 3600 and a little behind the 5600X.

This is as good as the 11400 will ever do since I can't overclock it, but perhaps one day I'll sell it and get a K to push the setup.

Yeah, it was a scam. Seller deleted the listing and then deleted their account. I should have known better.

Oh well, eBay will refund me next week.

I really don't understand the scam though. This "seller" will never see a penny of the money, unless one of the buyers doesn't report it to eBay I suppose, but what are the chances that would happen? I don't understand how these scammers make money...

Edit: eBay already refunded me.

My case FINALLY arrived aaaaaand come to find out my old 970s are too long to fit! D’oh! So I guess I’m just gonna throw the cards on eBay and keep an eye out for a 3060 and not expect to get anything for a looooong time. Nothin’ but Roll20 and Gimp for the new machine for awhile, it seems!

And I just ordered an Alienware box with a 3080. Shipping estimate is 6 weeks.

Once it arrives, I'll swap the 3080 for my existing 1080, toss in a 500 GB SSD I have left over from my old PC, and then most likely sell it locally for I don't even know how much... Thoughts on a reasonable price for this build? Would $800 be out of line?

- AMD 5600x CPU
- 8 GB RAM
- 500 GB SSD
- 1 TB HDD
- GTX 1080
- 1000w PSU

(In case anyone was wondering, total price from Dell with my EPP discount was $2009 plus tax)

Depending what 1080 that is you could get that much for the card alone.

It's a founder's edition, but I'm not looking to gouge anyone on a 5 year old video card.

So, you're effectively paying $1200 PLUS giving away a 1080 PLUS giving away a 500GB SSD, for the 3080? I mean, I'm not one to tell someone else how to spend their money, but that seems like you're scalping yourself there...

Well when you put it like that, maybe I should do some maths.

Original cost = $2009
Minus 3080 @ $800 = $1209
Plus 1080 @ $200 = $1409
Plus SSD @ $50 = $1459

So I suppose I'll list it at $1450 even then and see if there are any bites.

Given that Ebay's showing used 1080 founders edition cards that have actually sold for $500-900 recently, $1400+ doesn't sound too unreasonable. Especially for otherwise brand-new Alienware kit. Just make sure you mention the 1080 and SSD are used, to avoid complaints later.
