Playstation 5 Catch-All

The open beta for the native PS5 version of Final Fantasy 14 starts tomorrow. They're boosting load-times, it will run at 1440p/60fps, and the UI has been updated for hi-res displays (and all those updates are coming to PC as well). If you have an account already, you can just start playing immediately (be sure to backup your HUD layout settings on the PS4 so you can grab them on PS5 immediately). If you don't have an account yet, you can play the free trial up to level 60 and through the first expansion.

Ever since the system update I've had a weird issue where any mic I plug in - though apparently working and detectable by the PS5 - won't stream over Twitch. I have the share my voice over streaming flag ticked. The settings seem right. It is absolutely baffling.

I've tried both with a wired Razer mic plugged into a controller and with a blue Yeti plugged directly into the PS5. No dice on either. Anyone hear of anything like this or have any ideas?

I found a couple of reddit threads mentioning similar issues, but no real solutions. One guy mentioned that the twitch mute was somehow turned on, but that doesn't seem universal.

Oh, weird - I can't find any mute setting (on or off) in the Twitch app.

I may have misread what he was indicating.

Hm, this?

This is probably exactly what's happening. Can't wait to try it out. Thank you so much for finding that!

Sure, I hope it helps!

UPDATE: This was totally the issue.

What a perplexing U/I decision. I'm grateful you saw these messages and shared them - Lunch Souls was a lot more fun today now that I could talk to people again lol.

Hooray! A problem solved!

Returnal-all-all thread

Lots of previews and footage going up.

Good lord, it's so pretty.

There will be a short State of Play showing extended gameplay on Thursday along with a couple of indie titles.

Are these things available yet or is it still a $1500 ebay market only?

Massively looking forward to Rift Apart, have always enjoyed the series a lot. I'm confident this will be R&C's best offering yet.

I'm at odds of weather to give the trailer a watch, is it spoilery in terms of lots of new locations, new mechanics, weapons etc?

I watched some of it and it did seem to be revealing a lot so stopped watching. Looks gorgeous though. I may have to play the latest R&C in preparation for the new one.

I'm new to Ratchet & Clank and the free remake didn't really hook me, so I'm officially downgrading to "wait and see." But darn if that doesn't look nice.

Presumably you already know about the portals, and about the new character who's in that thumbnail. Other than that it's all quick cuts so I'm not sure you would be able to pick up anything more if you tried.

Yep I know about the portals & the female Lombax, I've seen the first trailer at the PS5 reveal plus the slightly extended gameplay at one of Keighley's events...Gamescom I think it might have been.

I don't know I think I might just leave it so I can experience the new stuff for the first time. It's out in just over 5 weeks anyways so it's not too long a wait.

R&C: Rift Apart - world transition This is pretty crazy considering it looks Pixar quality in the graphics department.

I don't know how to post a GIF so you'll have to do with the link :p

As promised, short trailers for two indies (Subnautica Below Zero and Among Us) and 15 minutes of Ratchet and Clank gameplay:

Edit: Better quality version of just the R&C section:

I highly recommend watching in 4k if you're able.

Returnal stirred me to look up the current eBay price point for a PS5. The first and only game to test that resolve. It seems to now be £600 to £650! That's a fair decrease since I was last aware. Still, I'll await a £450 RRP, preferably to collect from a bricks and mortar.

Same as me I now have a proper list of PS5 i want to play with Demons Souls, Ratchet, and Returnal. Sony all you have to do to take my money is not force me to a scalper come on you can do it!

As much as I want a PS5, I wouldn't by from a scalper, even at a fair price, out of spite.
I hope it will be possible to get one this year, but it isn't looking great :/

If they don't get them in wide distribution before Elden Ring releases, my interest will go way down. I want to play DSR and possibly Returnal, but the player base for DSR is going to plummet when Elden Ring releases, so there won't be much urgency. Maybe I'll be able to hold out for PS5.5, or even PS6!

I am surprised that you're all having so many issues still getting one. I was on the hunt two weeks over Christmas and nailed one. I didn't realize how lucky I was. I feel bad the well is so dry. It has me guessing was I just lucky or what?

This isn't a brag post more a curiosity post. I followed several drop twitter accounts that were always getting news of shipments or ideas of when. Then one day they posted Best Buy had some that day and I spent an hour hitting refresh as the cart would flicker in and out of stock. Then it got me in queue and out the digital door.

Best of luck to you all.

The few times I have tried to buy one through “being fast”, they were sold out in less than a second. The other times the shops used a “sign up and we will randomly draw those who can buy it”, so don’t know what the chances were for those.

I've had one in a cart at least a dozen times over the past seven months and never got one to complete an order before selling out.

I hope I wasn't sounding disrespectful or whatever. I just am surprised that's all. If it makes everyone feel better, it is my glorified PS4, used it's PS5 powers a few times but it's mostly been a PS4 machine.

I hope your digital carts soon be full.

Same for me, but I have to admit the load times have completely transformed Skyrim for me, even though I'm loading from an external SSD rather than the internal drive. Exit the gates of a city and it's only about a second before I'm in the big wide world; that's a real quantum difference from before, where every time I went through a door I'd think "Wait, before I leave this area, have I done everything I want to do here?"

Yeah, it's a glorified PS4 machine, but what a PS4 machine. So impressive it almost makes you want to hold off playing PS5 games until you can play them on a PS6.

Imagine the load times! The game would finish before you even started!

I have a feeling its going to take me so long to snag a PS5 due to demand that they will become readily available when the refresh unit is released. So, with that view, the glass is half full for me.

GameFly has a nice used sale going on so I treated myself to Miles Morales for 25.
