DC Catch-All [Spoiler Zone]

God I hope this is the last we see of the Snyder DC universe. Not a fan of the direction he was taking things.

Happy that is at the top of a page. I am so bored with the direction Snyder drew the universe and I hope his cut being received rather lukewarmly will convince the executives to go a different direction.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not loving it. I just hate it less with the snyder cuts.

I'd love to see a new direction but want the characters to be the same actors in most cases.

So I decided to watch the entire Snyderverse. That being Man of Steel, followed by Bats v Sups (Ultimate Edition) and then his cut of the Justice League. And I must say I enjoyed it.

Both the extended versions of Bats v Sups and Justice league are certainly better than the theatrical releases (don't ask me where the differences come in, I cannot remember most of the theatrical cuts, they could not keep me awake). My plan was to watch the 4 hours of Justice league over 2 - 3 days, but then found myself watching the whole thing except the epilogue in one sitting. Just finished the epilogue now and I have to say that I would now not mind seeing where he had wanted to take the remaining movies that will never be made.

That said, still not the greatest movies, but certainly entertaining.

I think after having the bar low for so long it's "nice?" to see a somewhat cohesive vision of a series. The real problem is the 90s animation did such a great job on these characters in many cases and Hollywood cannot even come close to matching that. Snyder does OK but I agree I grow luke warm on watching his vision from the 80s comics. I think he could guide a GREAT director in where to take it.

Yep. Kevin Conroy is my Batman and Mark Hamill is my Joker. Everyone else is trying for second place.

Agree, but there are a few close runners up. I like Batman and Joker in Harley Quinn.

Adam West and the Nolan Batman will always be my favorite live action.

I've soured on the Nolan Batman over the years. I still like Batfleck and Keaton, but yeah, Kevin Conroy will always be the best.

I guess the answer is to give it to Fiege.

Have they watched Superman & Lois?

I've just watched a YouTube thing about Justice League and I didn't know that Snyder was an Objectivist. It makes some odd character choices in his movies make a bit more sense now.

New Gods and Aquaman 2 canceled. I really liked the first Aquaman and Ava Duvernay seemed very hyped about the movie when she talked about it. Wonder if they will put her on one of the other movies.

Aquaman was one of the ones that it seemed a majority of people liked - smells like a franchise reboot.

Snyder does seem to like Ayn Rand but the things he says about her doesn't make me think he's an Objectivist.

‘The Fountainhead’: Zack Snyder Still Wants To Make His “Super Fun And Crazy” Film About “Architecture And Sex”

“I think she’s incredible and insane and she’s always said story first, not regarding her politics,” said the filmmaker. “But it was easy for her to fall victim to her own popularity, and she drank her own Kool-Aid.”

He continued, “She didn’t give a f*ck. If she was alive right now she would’ve f*cking murdered Donald Trump. She didn’t even like Reagan! She thought he was a nationalist. But I’m rambling now, sorry!”

Got a link for the Aquaman 2 cancellation?

Only an Aquaman spinoff was cancelled. Aquaman 2 is still moving forward.

Oh they did say spinoff but I thought that was A2.

We just finished Snyder's Justice League and we really liked it. While it was too long, it was a lot better and made more sense than the theatrical version.

Black Lightning's backdoor pilot for the Painkiller spinoff sure looks like a very good cyberpunk show.

I did not like it. The CGI was atrocious and the lighting was gaudy. Also Black Lightning is ending this season If I remember correctly. What makes them think CW will want to pick up a spinoff?

If the CW wants to do a Young Kara spin-off of Supergirl, I'd be down for that. The casting of the young versions of the characters has always been stellar.

New DC animated shows! A new Superman show. A new Batman series from Bruce Timm. And Matt Reaves. And... JJ Abrams. Oh that's going to go over well.

Has Abrams ever worked in animation before? Dude can direct an action scene, in live action anyway. Just keep him away from the story and maybe it'll be fine?

I dunno, but I read that synopsis of his Superman movie idea way back when, and I thought "Wow, really glad they didn't make this."

If I may rant for a sec, I'm really glad that things seem to be balancing out on The Snyder League, because for a while there it felt like I was losing my mind Mugatu style. So many people out there saying they thought it was pretty good and going on to describe what sounds like anything but, or heaping praise over the lowest of bars. It's more cohesive? It's 4 hours long, it f*cking better be! Cyborg has more screen time? Great, I feel for Ray Fisher, I'm glad it sounds like he did good work, and I feel for him even more because every scene described sounds like hack crap that shouldn't have made it out of the first draft of the script. Dad missing the football game to illustrate their distance? For real? My breaking point was the...I guess they're technically a critic, but, well... the claim was that "this is what Scorsese meant by 'cinema,'" such an egregious claim I switched the video off and blocked the channel, because, no, when Marty talked about "cinema," he was not referring to giving $60 million to an already failed project at the behest of AT&T to goose up numbers for their streaming service, I don't know the man, but I've studied his work, and I feel very confident in that assessment.

Fwuh! I feel better. The latest Superman & Lois was really good.

Snyder sounds by all accounts like a super nice guy. Wish him all the happiness in the world.

He got the last twelve bucks he's ever gonna get from me for Batman vs Superman.

I think Snyder has a great visual style, but can't tell a story... I also don't like his deconstruction of super heroes. His take on the Kents really rubbed me the wrong way and sort of soured me on all of his DC projects.

His 4 hr JL was better than the theatrical release, but that's like saying a root canal is better than a baseball bat to the head.

I'm one of those weirdos who actually kinda liked Man of Steel, big dumb jumbled mess that it was.

BvS was just so joyless and gray and blah, though. I don't understand who watched that and said, "f*ck yeah, bring on Justice League!"
