Hubert has been there for 9 years. Hope he does well.

I think there will definitely be an adjustment period. No matter who stepped into the role, there were going to be some upheavals.

But I also hope for good things (go figure).

Um... Gonzaga know the game started?

You have to wonder. They looked pretty lost out there in the first half, though they had a decent run to end it. Gonna be hard to climb back in, particularly if Baylor continues to dominate on the defensive end!

Wow, Gonzaga doesn’t look like they belong on the court with these guys. Baylor is way too strong, fast and athletic. Outside of Suggs, Gonzaga looks way too plodding.

Absolutely dominant performance by Baylor. Game is over, it's just that there's still time on the clock.

First to 70 wins again

WTF? Nice to win. Feel a little bad, this tournament was a mess. Very enjoyable for a casual fan with no horse in the race. But still an utter mess.

Congrats to Baylor, they played magnificently throughout the tournament. I feel bad for the Zags, this was their time and they just came out flat as day-old soda and could never really get it together last night.

Thanks to everyone who played in the bracket challenge. Was fun, as usual. Love reading everyone's posts even though I never have anything to add.

I was pulling for the Zags, I still think of them as a Cinderella story even though I know they haven’t been that for a while. But once again, shows that they just can’t recruit the kind of talent that is needed to compete against elite teams. Maybe that will change after they were able to recruit Suggs. They pad their record against weak competition. I don’t think they were off against Baylor, I think they were just overmatched. Baylor wins that matchup 9 out of 10 times.

Gonzaga had some decent wins this season; Kansas, UVA, WVU, Iowa... None of those teams were at their peak this year, but I don't think Gonzaga was as bad as they played. Despite having said that, I concur they don't beat Baylor. Not the way they were playing last night. Locked in, focused, aggressive, and resolute. The better team won, no two ways about it.

Shame, I was kinda pulling for em too. It's probably why they lost. Heh.

Baylor beat all those teams except UVA too. Some multiple times.

And as it turns out none of those power teams made the second weekend. So while they were top 30 or 40 teams they weren't top 15.

UNLV in 1990 is the last champion not from the power 6 conferences. It's just not going to happen anymore.

I know Butler was one shot away... Brad Stevens had some magic. But dang that was a decade ago.

A team like Leicester City could never win it all.

I just have trouble reconciling some of the earlier season performances I saw out of Gonzaga with what I saw on Monday night. There were a lot of games with virtuoso levels of performance regarding guard play, ball movement, shooting, etc. The players were completely in sync. That was a 180 on Monday night. Credit to Baylor's defense, for sure, but I still think it was more than JUST the opposing team being dominant. Kispert had been lighting it up from deep... until the last several games of the tournament. Open looks just not going down. *shrug*

Of course, Baylor looked similarly strong in the early season. Their hiccup came from that extended covid pause, after which they did end up losing a couple of games. The tournament was a return to early season form, and they clearly peaked at the right time.

Doesn't really matter, just data for the analysts.

Now I have to cross my fingers and hope Coach Davis can cobble the remaining players, the incoming recruits, and maybe some pickups via the transfer portal into a modestly decent team next season!

What I saw Monday night out of Gonzaga was not what I had seen from them earlier in the tournament. In prior games they had been much more dynamic and aggressive. Monday night they seemed tired, especially in the first 10-12 minutes. Baylor's defense had a big part to play, of course, I am not disparaging them at all. They deserved to win - after all I picked them to win in my bracket! But I think Gonzaga's win Saturday night took something out of them.

Signed,
Knows Nothing

Baylor made Houston look a tier down, too. They were firing on all cylinders.

They did indeed, and they absolutely were.

Next season. Starts in less than 24 hours.
