[News] Post a D&D Picture

Previous incarnations of Cleveland/P&C/D&D have had an image thread, to handle political cartoons and other image-based stuff that doesn't belong in the general post-a-picture threads.

If any of them spawn an extended discussion, please spawn it off into its own thread. Replies to non-picture replies should take the form of a link pointing to a post on a different discussion thread.

And I shouldn't have to say it, but the images still need to abide by the rules.

It saddens me that I know people who would find that comic hilarious, but not for the intended reason.

Republicans threatening to punish a company by making their market more competitive tells you everything you need to know about their "free market" bullsh*t.

The thing is - it always has been. For the majority of human history it was a radical idea. After the Great Depression and the reforms we got the idea that is wasn't but that is the blip, not the other way around.

Priorities.

That's really good. That's some CJ Craig sh*t. Both prepared to explain why the talking points are nonsense, but also confirming that, in fact, it's not the President's job to tell pro sports what to do, unlike the previous asshole who thought it was. It is, in fact, MLB's decision.

I'm not really religious, but I would be happy to join a church like that.

I am kind of surpised the church (or at the very least the sign) hasn't been burned to the ground.

This sounds like agreeing to wear the broken watch because it'll be perfect twice a day.

Communities can be powerful forces for good, and one that's so focused on accepting everyone would probably be a pretty happy place to hang out. Christianity doesn't have to be nasty. And I'd be mostly unbothered by people praying to an entity that I suspect probably doesn't exist, because it works for them. I would have no need to change their minds. And I doubt they'd ever change mine, at least on that score, but if they're focused on accepting and helping people as a group, I think I'd probably find it pretty comfortable.

God I'm not at all sure about, but I've been in groups that I strongly believed in, and that church sounds like it might be another.

It’s almost like one crime harms rich white men and the other just hurts kids.

Milwaukee is part of the Portland metro and while it’s more conservative than Portland, it’s still not a super conservative area. If it was half an hour further south or east it might be in trouble though.

Also I don’t know if those signs are as common as the pictures make them seem. I’ve driven past the place a couple times and both instances it was just generic feel-good bible verses.

I'd be interested in that as an acid test for their acceptance. What? Even atheists?.

There's a big strain of liberal Christianity we don't see too much of, online. The hateful ones get all the attention, but the religion doesn't have to be awful.

My church had some atheist neighbors show up for our Easter egg hunt this year, and we were glad to have them. They came to our Monday dinners regularly back before COVID shut those down. It turns out that being a self-righteous jerk to people with different beliefs isn't actually a requirement of atheism, regardless of what one might think from internet memes.

I can only speak from experience, but I've noticed that many left-leaning Christians approach their faith in a similar way that fans of LOTR or Star Wars or Harry Potter do. They speak, act, and think as though Mount Doom / Yavin IV / Hogwartz exist, but they're not super sensitive about the fact that, to many other people, these are fictions wholly invented by humans. Many of them would even acknowledge that while the details of the stories are fictionalized, the lessons they impart are not.

This ability to differentiate truth from Truth tends to strengthen one's bonds with fellow humans, from my perspective.

Those are all great. The C-130 photo is particularly amusing to me because flare dispensers are a last-ditch defensive measure. When the flares go off, the crew isn't going "America f*ck Yeah!". They are praying to their respective deities that they don't get blown out of the sky.
