This is the thread to discuss any and all shows on Apple TV+ ... such as Ted Lasso.
Aahaaaa! This is the thread I need. A Long Way Up with Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman is a fantastic adventure. They are trying to ride electric bikes up through South America. Their previous series ‘Around’ and ‘Down’ are also worth watching.
Defending Jacob has a somber tone but it absolutely riveting once you get into it (it does involve the murder of a child.) It’s and in incredibly well told and deeply felt story from start to finish.
I’m also watching Servant which also has a lot of promise. The question is, will I get everything I want to watch in before the seven day trial is up!?
I’ve watched the first two. It’s amusing but hasn’t fully grabbed me. I friend has told me it gets better and better so I’m definitely going to watch the rest.
Ted Lasso is the best new show of 2020. WATCH ALL OF IT.
Barbecue Sauce.
Extra point for Ted Lasso. They had a fan use the V sign on Lasso rather that the American single digit variant. I’m into it now. On episode six.
I must watch that. The trailer was good. Tehran is calling me though. The unbearable tension in the first two episodes was nectar to me.
Finished Ted Lasso. It was incredible. Thanks for pushing me to watch the rest.
As a complete counter point to Ted Lasso, Tehran is incredible but it depicts the heartless realities of espionage when it involves using other people. There is humanity on all sides but there is also a dark logic and cold pragmatism at play. It’s probably very true to life.
That said, and having just watched the last episode, it's an excellent spy drama. Worth watching if you like that kinda thing.
If I'm not mistaken. The head of the company in Mythic Quest is called Ian. Everyone in the show pronounces it 'Eyean' as if it's some weird olde English name but in the UK, where Ians abound, we pronounce it 'Ean.' Is 'Eyean' the way Ian is commonly pronounced in the US?
(I've just finished episode 4 so episode 5 is next for me.)
Oh good. Thanks.
Watching Episode five. It’s excellent so far.
Edit: That was a fantastic episode
For All Mankind is extremely good. I wasn’t feeling it for the first two episodes but it’s well worth sticking with.
Edit: The last two episodes are phenomenal.
In my experience it is mostly pronounced 'Ean' here as well. The only time I've heard it pronounced 'Eyean' is the actor Ian Ziering from the show Beverly Hills 90210 and the Sharnado movies. I too find it strange to hear it pronounced that way.
Funny you bring that up though because the pronunciation is actually brought up in the show. Keep watching...
I worked with a Eoghan which was pronounced Ian.
That was perhaps an older/original version of the name.
If anyone rented the film Monsoon because it was on offer get it watched it’s an excellent film.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Long Way series. Rewatching A Long Way Down I was much more aware of the strain and tension between the two men. Still very good though.
I rented the film Mully. It’s an astonishing documentary. Well worth seeing.
Yeah Long Way Round was better, just more fun and about the adventure. Long Way Down was not as cheerful, there was fighting and weird relationship dynamics and too much schedule pressure. It wasn't about the enjoyment of the travel and the friendship.
I hope Long Way Up is more like the former.
I agree. I saw down first, then around. Up feels like they were mending their friendship.
I'm so late to the party, but we just finished Ted Lasso over the last two weeks. I'm smiling just thinking about it. What a terrific show. I know some people have said it takes a few episodes to get warmed up, but I was hooked from the first.
Also, we watched the first episode of Long Way Up. We lived in Chile in 2017 and miss it horribly, so we were looking forward to it. The first episode was too much about the planning...looking forward to them actually being in South America.
I'm trying to avoid my streaming subscriptions from turning into a cable bill, but I saw some clips of For All Mankind that really scratched my sci-fi itch and and Ted Lasso's been on my radar. Can anyone filthy enable me?
I can assert that Ted Lasso is really really good.
I would not have Apple TV except for an incident involving an iPhone and a lake that resulted in a new phone purchase with 1 year of Apple TV thrown in.
Since October, I've used it to watch:
- Long Way Round/Down/Up
- Ted Lasso
- For All Mankind
- Mythic Quest
...and that's it. I've not found anything else exclusively on Apple TV that I want to watch. Once the free year runs out I'll unsubscribe and resubscribe 1 or 2 months each year to binge new seasons of the above. Definitely worth at least a month's sub to check em out at any rate.
It's definitely a service with a very small set of very high quality shows. I've loved Ted Lasso and For All Mankind, and Mythic Quest is pretty fun too.
I have cautious hopes for what they do with the Foundation series, but they have not yet announced a release date (beyond "this year").
Doug Unplugged isn't bad for kids.
My wife and I just finished Ted Lasso a couple of weeks ago, and we loved it. We've also seen Servant, which is... okay (I enjoyed the first season much more than the second one), and we started Home Before Dark, which I thought was fantastic but somehow never finished. Oh, and I absolutely adored The Morning Show --I thought it was outstanding!
