I probably won't watch it as I always feel like Kirkman is f*cking with me.

One thing I'm really appreciating about Invincible is that they shifted the tension to the family dynamics over the plot. Nolan and Mark's relationship feels more fraught and Nolans turmoil feels more earned than in the comic.

I'm liking it so far. I was ready for tonal shifts, but the 1st episode's ending was, uh, something else.
In terms of animation, they seem to save themselves for the action scenes.

Invincible reminded me at the start of the slightly ropey kids animated series I used to watch back in the 80's (Battle of the Planets, Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors) just with slightly better production values (relatively speaking)

Then it did that big tonal shift thing right and the end and, er, what the hell was that?

They added The Grand Budapest Hotel, which I somehow missed at the time. Only halfway through due to toddler timing, but it is definitely my kind of weird.

Grand Budapest is great. I was going to write that its my new favorite Wes Anderson movie over The Life Aquatic, but I still love that one so I'm putting them at 'currently tied'

I'm tied between Budapest and Moonrise Kingdom. I didn't like Tenenbaums or Zissou because the lead characters were fundamentally arseholes. I do adore the soundtrack to Steve Zissou though - Seu Jorge's Portugeuse covers of Bowie songs are divine.

I'm just disappointed that we didn't get more of Matt and his stepdad in the third episode.

Spoiler:

Stating that the Earth wasn't the aliens' to conquer comes with the implication that it's Nolan's to conquer.

I was disappointed, and my expectations were already low. I quit reading both The Walking Dead and Invincible comics because Kirkman's dialogue just doesn’t work for me. It comes across as stilted and unrealistic. (I know it’ a comic, but still.) The show didn’t change my mind.

I'm glad I'm not alone. I read both as well and bailed on both for those exact reasons. I met him at Comic-Con a lifetime ago and was one the single nicest guys I've ever had a chance to chit-chat with. But that dialogue just irks me.

Watched Gemini Man and rather liked it. I recall it getting bad reviews. Digital Smith didn't bother me. Liked the fight scenes Principle from Deadly Class and Dr Strange was a nice surprise. Plot was basic. All in all a fun movie.

I liked it, too. Don't get the hate.

It's the best Hitman movie I've ever seen.

I think the second Hitman movie wins that tiny race--at least he uses disguises--but I found Gemini Man entertaining as well.

Watched Words on bathroom walls the other night. What a pleasant, emotional , fun movie. Wife and I enjoyed it a lot!

Invincible, by the 3rd episode, is a considerable improvement. There are far too many characters in it though and it’s tonally all over the place but the main characters are starting to take shape, the motives of all of them are starting to come out and I actually quite enjoyed it.

I'm enjoying Invincible. Did not realize it was week to week.

Literally just started Invincible yesterday, but only got into the first 10 minutes when RL came a callin'. I will delve into it more this weekend.

Wonder if there is any crossover at all to the Jack Ryan show:

Pretty excited. Wonder if they transition him into Mr. Clark full stop. I can't remember many of the book details. It's been nearly 30 years!

I don’t think so. I think Amazon grabbed this after it was supposed to come out in theaters.

Would be nice if there were a future crossover though.

That was the best thumbnail they could think of?

Ah. Hadn't kept track of if this was an Amazon developed movie in partnership with Paramount or not. Thanks.

He has no remorse.

I don't know about a crossover, but what I'm excited about is that this was a 2 picture deal where this one is the origin story and they're going to follow it up with Rainbow Six.

The bits I can make sense of from the trailer don't seem familiar from the book, but I read it years ago.

There's parts of it in there, but they seem to be going a new route with this one. Either way this is a prequel to RB6 and i'm for it. If it happens that is...

OK just watched the trailer. Definitely no crossover because they made Greer female, which isn't the bad part, they made her a Lt Commander and young which is all sorts of f*cked up.

Wow, missed that she was Greer. Kind of odd.

Yea it looks like they're making this more of an action flick and instead of going up against drug dealers he's going up against rogue government agents instead. The change to Greer and what they showed in the trailer is just way off from the books.

In the books he doesn't show up till the end as the intelligence person who puts all the pieces together and points John to the final target then offering him a job and his new name John Clark at the end when it's done.

I'm all for a good action movie and more Michael B. Jordan, but the only thing these share with the Clancy material is the names. Call it something like Tom Clancy's Net Force or Jack Ryan Jr, even The Division, but the only thing this does is irk people who read the older books. I'll watch it and at least from the trailer I'll like it, but is Tom Clancy the name even a draw for anyone but old folks like me who cut their teeth on the original?
