Monster Hunter Rise Catch-All

I don't have the source on me at the moment, but this was datamined information that I found from a thread on reddit a couple days ago.... If the datamined leaks are true, perhaps both HH veterans and new players can be happy.

Sounds like the concept of hunter styles and arts from MHG(U) might live on in a different guise.

Good times, indeed! I had a lot of fun running around in my silly chef's outfit and buffing everyone by eating mushrooms.

SnS and Charge Blade are my mains and both got major buffs and increased complexity in Rise. Can't wait, really. Imma buy a new Switch for this.

My daughters main IGlaive and Dual Blades respectively. We are so down with this. So down.

Custom Switch and pro controller announced by Nintendo of Europe.

Since I just got an Animal Crossing Switch last year I think I'm good. But maybe the pro controller, it looks great.

Capcom Reveals The Most Used Weapon In The Monster Hunter Rise Demo

Now that the online portion of the demo is no longer accessible, Capcom has shared some interesting stats about the most-used weapons.

Coming in at number one is the Long Sword - which was used by 19.1% of players. In second place was the Great Sword - used by 9.7% of players, and in third was the Hunting Horn - 9.6% of players went with this one.

Geez, I don't think I've ever seen hunting horn break 2% before. I guess that shows how irrelevant all of us "purists" truly are

I'm still undecided on what I'm going to main. They usually release a 2nd demo closer to launch, so I'll probably wait until then do to a little more experimentation. Maybe this will finally be the time I go for a ranged weapon.

Dammit I missed another timed demo.

Sorry I've not been doing my job in building up hype very well.

Enjoy this latest video of Monster Hunter Rise and "The Rampage"!

Take up arms and head to the Stronghold!

The Rampage is near, and it's more dangerous than we've imagined... Apex Monsters have been sighted in mix! #MHRise

Prepare for this onslaught by facing Rakna-Kadaki, Volvidon and Basarios in the Lava Caverns, and confronting Almudron and Diablos in the Sandy Plains.
Monster Hunter Rise launches on March 26th on Nintendo Switch.

I have avoided buying a Switch Pro Controller for 4 years but the cool design of the MHR one pushed me over the edge. And Generations didn’t feel quite right in joycons.

Me neither. I'm just trying not to get excited too early. I know I'm going to play the hell out of Rise when it's released. Rampage mode looks interesting. Are those tower defense elements?

It's a great controller. If you want to use it in handheld mode, I have really been enjoying it with the Fixture S1 that Spikeout talked about in the Switch thread.

Same. Loving the Fixture. Should have bought it to start with instead of Hori pad.

Confirmation today from Capcom that the game will release on PC in "early 2022."

Monster Hunter Rise Is Getting Another Free Demo

this second demo will be available from this coming Friday and will add a challenging Advanced quest where players will get to take on the Magnamalo.

I'm hoping for the Flooded Forest this time.

New trailer from the digital event showing off a bunch of new and returning monsters:

A demo of Rampage:

I love tower defense modes, so sign me up!

During the event, they confirmed the Switch Skill system, which was the rumor I referenced regarding Hunting Horn styles earlier. Each weapon will have a total of three moves that they can swap out, some normal and some silkbind. For instance, gunlance was confirmed to have a new silkbind move that heats up the barrel to temporarily improve shelling and wyrmstake damage, and it is also able to give up charge shells in exchange for the awesome blast dash gap closer:

If the rest of the rumor holds true, it should have one more normal move it can swap out. Each of the other weapons should have one silkbind and two extra normal moves for customized move sets. I am very excited about this.

Here's a video going over some of the new options for each weapon that we know so far:

Zinogre! Nargacuga! I'm all in on this. Haha.

Rajang. *gulp*

The new demo up yet?

Yes, go for it! (1.8GB)

So I've always used heavier weapons. I really love the (old) hunting horn, great sword, hammer etc. I feel like Monster Hunter is all about committing to your attacks and lugging around larger than life weapons. I've had brief attempts to use dual blades and sword n' shield, but they never felt right to me. For this reason (and always getting knocked around by bad players), the long sword always felt like a bit of a lame weapon to me. Looking around the 'net, I'm not the only one assuming it's the newbie weapon of choice.

But goddamn, I took it for a spin in the new demo and it felt so good. It's so satisfying! I've always loved dodge-lancing, and long sword feels like that playstyle but a lot more deliberate. I've been struggling to find a weapon to main in this new game, but I think it just clicked for me!

Oof, five minutes with demo-level Magnamalo and I noped on out of there.

And then five minutes later I yep'd back in with the lance to turtle and learn some moves.

Cool monster.

Yeah I couldn’t even begin to handle that guy.

I wonder what kind of challenge they expect the demo to present. I’ve been playing these games for a decade or so now and I’m decent, not great at them. I kill the easy monster easily but Mizutsune gives me a run for my money every time. Particularly the end. It feels to me like the monsters, or at least this one, has a lot of post-limp HP left.

Not sure if I'm rusty, things are very different, or the demo is quite challenging! I had no chance with the new monster. The Mizutsune is barely manageable for me right now! Definitely need time to readjust.

I've been playing since the early PSP days, too.

I'm not really feeling the demo.

I haven't bothered with collecting many spiribirds during a hunt, and the health and stamina bars don't seem to reflect a pre-hunt meal, so I wonder if that's the difference for me.

Or, perhaps the monsters have been tweaked to account for wirebug action, which I've yet to come to grips with.

Or, perhaps the balancing of the demo is just plain wonky.

Regardless, I feel rusty and I'm not really enjoying the (yet again) canned-quest format of the demo. It seems like I enjoy the demo more when I ignore the hunts and simply explore and experiment with the weapons.

On that note, too bad the demo doesn't include the training grounds; I really want to whack that log.

This might be better suited for the Trading Post thread, but considering the game isn't even out yet, I'll put it here first.

I preordered Rise a while ago as part of a buy 2 get 1 free deal on Target, but I know I'm going to put enough time into this that I would prefer to have it digitally.

Before I cancel my preorder, does anyone here want my copy for $42.80? I'm believe I can change the shipping address for Target, otherwise it'd be an extra few bucks on top of that and a few extra days for re-shipping. Send me a pm if interested.

Edit: Claimed!

Good news, everyone. We all get a day off on Friday to play MH:Rise instead.

That is, if we all worked for Mark-on in Japan.

Random: A Japanese CEO Is Giving Staff A Day Off To Play Monster Hunter Rise

My office is doing every other Friday off because of the pandemic. Gives us a mental break and some time to schedule errands, etc.

So yeah this Friday is off. Although I have a dentist appt too.

Please sell me on your favourite weapon in Rise. I like to play something new each game, but with all the changes, everything is new. My old main was hunting horn, but I really don't enjoy the new changes. Some quick thoughts

  • Longsword feels really nice with the counters, but I don't want to be that guy that always trips people
  • Hammer is the closest thing to the old hunting horn style, but I fear I'll always be thinking "well it's not HH..."
  • I've never, ever touched gunlance. I mained regular lance in Tri for a good 50 hours until I got a bit bored though.
  • Charge blade is long!
  • Greatsword is the classic, though I have been playing it a lot in Generations Ultimate so I feel like a change.

I just can't choose one!

What are you planning to use and why?

I will probably go back to SnS to start with in Rise. By the end of my time on the PS4 version I was getting comfortable with it. I replayed through the story on PC with greatsword and loved it, but want that SnS mobility again. Might give dual blades a try.

I tried charge blade and SnS in the demo yesterday. I felt out of practice with both and couldn't get a flow of combos going. I remember having a never-ending attack I could do on SnS back in 4U or generations. Gah.

Also I spent time fighting the camera, and just generally felt like I sucked, even against the easy monster.

The mount was cool and the little hookshot thing was interesting though.

I tried most of the weapons in the demo. I liked hunting horn and charge blade the best, and also thought LBG felt really fun too. Will probably start as the horn for something a little simpler.

This is after having only played (and loved) Generations on the 3ds. Played Insect glaive for around 40 hours.

Really looking forward to the less cumbersome controls in this one.
