That’s really funny. The Westbrook travel is a classic.

LOL, except watch and these will actually start selling.

LeBron out 4-6 weeks and nobody has posted about it? Lakers on a 4-game skid without him.

All they could talk about on the LAL blowout broadcast last night was how it was no biggie and the Lakers are going to waltz into the Finals whether they're the 4 or the 6 seed.

And they're not wrong.

I think the Lakers are in trouble and I think even if both Lebron and Davis come back say 5 games before the playoffs that is not enough time. I can definitely see them going out in the first or second round if they are a low seed.

Kinda happy Lowry didn't get traded, and sad that Powell did, although I understand the reasons for it.

What a crazy trade deadline day, eh? I am interested to see what happens now in the buyout market.

Yeah, I saw the LeBron injury and immediately thought he’d be out for a while. That’s what happened to Durant right before he came back too soon and tore his Achilles.

To be fair, we're still in the Glorified Friendlies season.

Is the NBA really going to let a guy that was suspended multiple times for cheating and covering up cheating in another professional sport buy a team? How is this even an option?

I assume you're talking about A-Rod? It's shocking how easy it was for him to launder his reputation in major league baseball as a decent announcer.

Does anyone in the NBA know who A-Rod is?

He dated J-Lo right?

I'd be sweating if I was a T-Wolves fan. I know A-Rod isn't the majority owner, but I have a very hard time imagining that team remaining in Minnesota by 2025.

Former Yankees players should not own sports teams!

Steph Curry is On. One, at the moment.

Great description I heard online, Steph is as good at hitting threes as I am at missing them. And you let me take 10, I couldn't make 3 if you paid me.

33-4-5 (4 3s)
47-7-3 (11 3s)
49-2-5 (10 3s)

EDIT: Genuine question? Is Steph the most influential player since Jordan? Or *whispers* even moreso?

Like, teams bombing threes isn't entirely down to Steph, but he's played a role, and he is absolutely the reason why there are a clutch of dudes you have to start guarding at 40 feet now.

It feels to me (me being a Warriors fan since I became conscious of the NBA) that Steph's the most influential player in terms of altering how the game of basketball is played within the last thirty years or so, mainly because he got good at 3s when he did while winning championships. Jordan will always be the most influential player in terms of changing how basketball and basketball players are perceived outside of the hardcore basketball fandom, mainly because he got good at being the public face of the sport while winning championships.

This is dangerously close to hot take territory, but I think you’re right. Guard-centric teams rarely win the title. Guard-centric teams that thrive on 3 point shooting especially. Curry’s run with the Warriors proved that could win titles and in the process changed the geometry of the court.

He’s not the only one, of course, but without Steph there’s no rings that prove this style is viable to winning titles and thus building teams, drafting, etc. So I think you could safely say he’s altered the league more significantly than almost any player in recent memory.

Lebron is still the most influential because he is the one that really brought about the player-empowerment era and players moving around all over the place.

For on court play style, yeah Steph is up there, probably with Harden in the current players that the league would have to change the rules if they want to diminish their impact.

Good point about LeBron and players controlling their destiny more. Especially his innovation of betting on himself and taking 2 year contracts.

On the court my argument against Harden as having as big an impact is that he didn't win anything. Whereas Curry proved you could win that way with the right players. If Curry never wins a title I'm not sure the game changes as much as it has. Part of what was so exciting about the first Warriors title time was we'd never seen that before.

I was never a fan of his but I’m surprised no mention of Kobe. There’s a reason shouting “KOBE” while throwing something in the garbage is a thing.

Well, then I think we need to differentiate between on-court and off-court. Off court, Kobe's influence is immense, but on-court, the sport is fundamentally different now because of people like Steph.

I feel it was different due to MJ and then Kobe/Iverson but not better. There was an entire generation of players that wanted to be ball dominant shooting guard volume scorers that do flashy dunks and take long twos. Steph's influence won't really be felt for a few more years as the kids coming up emulate him. What he's done for current players is allowed accurate shooters to excel on long threes (Dame, FvV, and Lowry all jump to mind immediately) where that just wasn't a shot that was allowed to exist.

For me it goes MJ creating Kobe/Iverson which then spawned a whole other generation of emulators but Steph comes along redefines what it means to be a volume scorer. No one can be like LeBron because he's such a unicorn.

At least that's the way I see it. I dipped out from 2000 until May 2013 so there's a lot I missed.

Oooh, Iverson, good point. Iverson's influence on and off the court is immense.

Yeah half the assholes I played pick up games with circa 2000 thought they were AI ball hogging chuckers.

His legacy is the worst shooting percentage to ever win an undeserved MVP award.

A good article on how especially with the benefit of advanced stats we know how valuable Iverson actually was on the court.

All that said, if you enjoyed undersized players with heart who left it all out on the court, he was fun to watch at times.

Good overview of exactly when the 3pt shot overtook the league. It was a slow burn at first and then it exploded.

I may be just old but surprised that nobody brought up Dr. J who probably during his era made a huge impact on the game. First NBA player I can remember that had endorsements and also was put into a video game.

Agreed on Dr J, but the question was 'since Jordan'.

Dr. J is well before my time and, as I was writing this post, realized that what I thought was his signature move, the skyook, was actually Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's.

I think the thing that sets Steph apart from the current other stars for me at least is that I genuinely really want to watch him.

I'll be honest I haven't been paying attention to close detail recently because regular season is such a slog but if you were to ask me hey you have to sit down watch one player. It's Steph hands down. I'm not even sure someone like Harden is in my top 5 for example.

Curry has definitely changed the game while also being highly entertaining. That's special.
