US Soccer Catch-All

Man, I watched a bunch of Pulisic games under Tuchel at Dortmund, and he was constantly creating chances.

Progress!

Aaronson, who came on for Pulisic for the second half, doubled the lead in the 52nd minute off Joshua Sargent's pass across the goaline with a close range effort. But the FC Salzburg player was quick to point out Dest's performance.

"Sergino's sick, he's so good," Aaronson said.

The Reggae Boyz were able to pull one back in the 71th minute when they pounced on the counterattack, with Jamal Lowe chipping the ball over Zack Steffen for the goal. The team were missing several star regulars due to an ongoing financial dispute with the Jamaica Football Federation dating to qualifying for the 2018 World Cup.

The 22nd-ranked Americans, preparing for a Nations League semifinal against Honduras in June and the start of World Cup qualifying in September, have seven wins and a draw in their last eight matches, and they've outscored opponents 23-3 in winning four consecutive friendlies.

"I thought we got better and better,'' Berhalter said. "The only thing we lacked was the movement behind the back line.''

Lletget sealed the match in the 83rd minute when the LA Galaxy veteran hit a low driving shot from just inside the box. He made it two on the night when he slotted in a goal in the waning minutes of the match. The 28-year-old Lletget has become a regular with the national team since returning in late 2018 from a severe foot injury suffered in a World Cup qualifier against Honduras in March 2017.

"I'm pretty low key,'' he said. "I hope they keep getting in the limelight, and they deserve it.''

Jordan Siebatcheu, who plays for Swiss side Young Boys, came on as a late substitute for his first USMNT action.

The U.S. next play Northern Ireland in Belfast on Sunday.

These kids are alright. Man, I love the more aggressive style that comes with the confidence some have gotten playing at higher level club teams, which has largely been missing since forever outside of a few outliers. Good use of short one touch passes in the attack buildup and creating excellent chances repeatedly bodes very well for the future. Driving into the box is a pretty novel idea for a US that was heavily dependent on counters and served balls from the wing for opportunities.

I’m actually looking forward to watching this team as it works it’s way through qualifying and future friendlies as they develop more chemistry and comfort with each other on the pitch.

Yeah, literally everything you said. It has been so long since I've seen a USMNT side that looks capable of hanging onto the ball against anything other than wholly inferior opposition.

Yep, very excited about the current crop. I don't know that we've ever been this talented; now we have to execute.

Wish I could go back in time and tell 2006 me that the USMNT would be pulling 20-year-olds playing for top-level European teams off the bench in friendlies.

Ah, well.

Swings and roundabouts.

The United States will miss a third straight Olympics men's tournament after losing 2-1 to Honduras in the semifinal of the CONCACAF qualifying round for the 2020 games in Guadalajara, Mexico, on Sunday afternoon.

Sigh

Stupid FIFA app sez "there are no matches today".

LITERALLY tuned in in time to see Mexico go up 2-1.

EDIT: Like, within seconds. I'll stop watching, maybe the US will pull it level again.

EDIT v2: LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Back tied. 3rd header from a corner the charm for McKennie

Right, so I can't watch the USMNT. That's the key.

We are a maximum CONCACAF everyone.

VAR strikes again. Chaotic game needed some VAR in extra time. Pulisic finishes nicely in the upper V.

Mexico fans throw trash on field hit Reyna in head during celebration, just chaos this last 30m.

I REPEAT, MAXIMUM CONCACAF.

why do drugs when you could simply watch 120+ minutes of CONCACAF football

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA EAT IT

OMFG. VAR gives mexico a PK at 120m, Horvath USA sub keeper with the save. Never a dull game when these two play.

Now a pitch invader running around..

Ah, I'd missed this. The sheer amount of salt pouring out of El Tri fans online right now would keep the roads in Minnesota clear for a decade. Delightful.

Twitter is insane right now

That game lost all brakes about 45 minutes before a Mexican player was hit in the head with a full beer

A guy jumped off the broadcast set and presumably straight into hell and it wasn’t the 10th wildest thing

The Good: Darryl Dike looking amazing

The Bad: Against Martinique.

EDIT:

A Person on Twitter wrote:

Literally have suffered through years of USMNT games to see us play like this and I don’t care who it was against

Fair.

Don't know if this is where we talk MLS but the All star game is about to start. National anthems and then a Blackhawk flyover.

Announcer: "Flyovers and fireworks! That's how we do it north of the border!"

Yeah.

If nothing else, this is absolutely the model they should be using going forward.

Not the MLS All-Stars vs. half-interested European team doing their preseason tour. MLS vs Liga MX.

Weston McKennie out due to covid violation. Does that mean he went out on the town against team orders or something like that? Socialized with non team members? Curious how low or high the bar is set for that violation.

Ah-huh.

Well! Two from two. (Two points, mind you.)

Yeah, not great so far. Off to a bad start. No McKennie nor Reyna was no good.

I loved Kemar Lawrence when he played for RBNY, but man he earned a red card 18 seconds into that game and really lucked out. Imagine Jamaica playing a man down for 89 minutes.
