Sea of Thieves Saturday night!

Zeb and I were talking about getting back into this game and wanted to see who else might be interested in joining? Figured I'd see who's around Saturday night.

Nice! I'm planning on it. I'll probably be hopping on a bit earlier also to get familiar with the state of things.

For anyone thinking about it, note that crossplay works for xb, gamepass for pc, and steam. No limit to player count-- we can just go with larger ships and fleets as needed.

I’m up for weekday evenings after 9pm EST if any interest.

I sure wish I could join back in, but I am crazy busy and have been forever. Have fun!

You will have a spot when you are ready.

Thanks for the round tonight guys! There's a lot of new content since I last played but the heart of the game remains the same: have a few peaceful hours, take in the sights, and then when you think you're safe and headed to bed, watch everything go completely pear-shaped, hang on for dear life, get ganked 100 yards from the merchant by a guy in a flaming mech pirate costume. It's a special game.

Nice to hear from you tuffalo, and yes whispa, will be sure to hit you up this week.

It's been a while tuffalo! We'll have to try and find time to play together again. 2 hours a week shouldn't be impossible right?

I had fun last night but legit almost uninstalled the game today while trying to play solo.

Oh playing SoT solo seems like a big mistake. It is defo at it's best when you are just sailing along with your mates , going from island to island and chilling. And hopefully never seeing any PC ship as you go.

I just downloaded this on the Game Pass and will hopefully be on a few hours during the week, more so on the weekend.

I am a total noob in the game, so I most likely won't play solo, as from what I gather it's pretty much a gank-fest if you do.

It makes me very happy to get some traction on a regular group for this game. I will plan to hop on most evenings this week. My window is ~7 - 11 EST.

Playing solo is definitely less enjoyable. One of the weird aspects of this game is how much it relies on emergent gameplay, so even with a group, you really don't know what you're gonna get. My feeling is that the full 4 man crew on the galleon is the way to go. But if you're new, it's definitely worth taking a spin in the sloop and brig.

Going to see if we can organize a group and see what times everyone is available.

FYI, this is a site I've been (very slowly) working on to help organize gaming sessions. Please join and fill in when you're roughly available to play.

Let me know if you've got feedback on what I could do better too. Thanks!

I like the tool Dakh. Scheduling a sesh with multiple people is the reason I think a game like SoT has a hard time sticking for casuals. I input my availability for this week. I assume availability is persistent, so I can update it for next week. (outta town this weekend).

Availability is "in general" and not for specific dates. So you set it once and you don't have to update it ever again unless you want to.

Just a heads up that I will be on around 9-9:15. Depending on when the kids are in bed.

I enjoyed playing with y'all this weekend but I think I'm gonna pass on playing any more of this game. The PvP in the game is just too toxic and it seems the devs don't really care so I don't really want to support it.

I'm gonna give Deep Rock Galactic a try.

Give me a ping if you want to play any other games in the future

Deep Rock is a GREAT game. Sank many hours into that.

I will say that Sea of Thieves is one of the more unique games I've played. It can be MOSTLY PvE that moves along at a slow and casual pace. But the more stuff you've accumulated, the bigger risk you have of having some other group of pirates swoop in and take your loot. It's a game about pirates. Minor griefing is to be expected. That said, I've had some pretty memorable experiences because of the PvP aspect.

And thankfully, everything at the end of the day is mostly just for cosmetics. So even if you lose everything, you haven't really lost anything.

Even though losing everything doesn't have a real impact in the game, I swear I have never been more mad than with some of the BS that has happened in this game. Like, red-in-the-face, ready to fistfight, never gonna touch this again. I'm slightly embarrassed even by my outbursts the other night after that megalodon-ghostship combo sunk us and that kid was on hand to yoink what was left of our loot. It's almost like the sense of risk is more emotional than material.

The times I did play, we just ran into one gank crew. Other than that, it's been fun. I can totally see how this can be a frustrating game though, especially if you are wrapping up a night of collecting treasure only to lose it all in a few seconds/minutes.

I understand the ship to ship combat out in the wild ocean (even though no pirate would have lived long if they just attacked EVERY ship they saw). When I tried to play solo the other day I tried to do some missions. My 1st mission - get 2 red chickens. It took me awhile because I tried to find chicken coops until I realized you could get them from the merchant that gives you the mission. I get good at solo navigating and sailing the boat. Have some fun getting the chickens and killing skeletons. Got to the goal outpost. No ships around. Dropped my anchor and before I could do anything someone killed me. They proceeded to kill me 6 more times then finally blew up my boat. The last thing I hear after that was voice chat saying "Sorry man".

There should def be a system where some of the outposts and sanctuaries have a no pvp bubble. Even pirate merchants would get pissed and start killing if someone kept killing all their customers.

I would say it's pretty rare to get stuck in that endless griefer loop, but it has happened to me a couple of times. The game seems to take pains not to incentivize griefing, but there's a certain type of player that just wants to see the world server burn not have fun.

I'm of two minds about it-- on the one hand I really like how freaking dangerous player character ships are. Like, you really want to avoid them. But on the other hand, casual and/or adult players don't stand a chance again these unruly always-online children.

After hearing about the griefers on here and abroad, I have decided that I will not be joining up for Sea of Thieves, but hopefully I can find something else down the road, to play with the GWJ crew.

Exactly why, even though this game looks really fun, there is no way I would ever bother. Any game where other players can take your stuff just isn’t worth the frustration. I had more than enough of that crap playing Ultima Online. Two hours as a complete noob (had literally just started the game) in the forest chopping down trees so I could make some flimsy arrows to sell in town, only to get ganked by high level players in gleaming armor carrying magic weapons. These jerks literally got nothing from killing me and cleaning out my paltry inventory, but they did it anyway. Some people just aren’t having fun unless they are making others miserable.

I’m glad that some of you are playing and enjoying it though, wish I could because I’ve always liked the art style and concept. If only they had a private server like Conan : Exiles or Empyrion I’d already own the game.

We're all emphasizing the negative PvP things that are possible in this game, but I've also had some pretty thrilling and memorable encounters with other player crews. It really does end up being a roll of the dice in terms of what you're going to get in any given session--smooth sailing, kraken attack, lightning exploding a powder barrel. Thankfully, those negative encounters with griefers are rare. It's just as common to encounter a friendly or indifferent player-crew.

All of that being said, I'm anxious to check out the next tall tale. And I have a few bucketlist items to look after- going up against the skeleton fleet, harpooning a megalodon, fighting a boss. I've got time this evening and will also propose a night on Dakh's app for next week.

I am up for it next week again. Ill look for your proposal(s) on his app!

I'll try and get on tonight as well:
