That which has been seen/Vasectomy Snip-all

Honestly the weirdest part of the procedure was when 3 months later I walked into a building wearing a mask and handed an old lady behind the counter a container of my semen and then walked out.

I mean, the last time I did that, the police officer told me I was banned from that Taco Bell location for life.

Lol, perfect laugh to start my Friday.

Hah, when I handed off my sample a few weeks back, I had been a little puzzled about how the process was supposed to work--they told me I needed to come into the hospital, but said it was a "dropoff appointment," so I expected I would just hand it off and leave. I arrived at the hospital with my cup inside the paper bag they gave me and walked up to the desk at urology and said "I'm here for my dropoff appointment," and the lady at the desk asked my name, looked me up and said "okay, hand me--" and, feeling awkward and wanting to get out there ASAP, I started to thrust the paper bag towards her until she finished her sentence "--your insurance card..." Then I ended up having to sit in the waiting room for 10 minutes for them to call me back and hand the bag to the nurse an exam room, and then I could leave.

Trust me, that's better than knocking one out in the bathroom of the doctor's office.

For whatever reason, they insisted on a fresh sample. Not the weirdest wank I've ever had , but it's certainly up there.

Ug, when we were trying for our first it took forever and I finally got tested. Yeah, I made it work, and as a teenager I probably would have had no problem. But as an adult, it was a little hard (whaaa whaaa).

Yeah had to do that twice when we were trying and considering IVF. Luckily right after we had a meeting discussing that, we were pregnant with baby one.

Anyway, procedure done. Minor pain for the local and then felt absolutely nothing during. Time to get home and ice up. Claiming the couch and TV for PS5 gaming the next 48 hours.

Good job! Take it easy and as you may already know from reading this thread, follow the doctor's instructions on how long to avoid strenuous activity, lifting things, and funny business, even if you feel 100%.

Congrats, hoping for a speedy recovery!

My advice: for real, seriously, no heavy lifting for the next few days. Some of the most sudden, unexpected, excruciating pain I've ever experienced was when I tried to pick up my son only a day or two post-op. I don't fully understand how all the muscles and such are tied together that would cause such pain, but heavy lifting is a Bad Idea. Don't do it.

Also the classic Frozen Bag of Peas is no joke either. Big relief. Ducks also like eating peas.

Frozen peas, yes. A few weeks after my surgery, my wife made pasta salad. Occurred to me while eating it there were peas in it, and I asked her, and her response was, "Well, did you think I was just going to throw them away?"

I shrugged and kept eating pasta salad.

Haha yeah my wife already put the peas in a ziploc bag to help save them for later.

And as feeling started to return I sneezed a few minutes ago. Ow. Going to have to avoid that this weekend.

Also don’t assume the pain and discomfort will meaningfully go away after 48 hours as it seems to vary a lot by person. It might go away fast or it might take a while longer. I’ve been having a “journey” with my post surgery experience.

Also, the likelihood of it failing is apparantly proportional to the amount of...ahem...use the area gets during the recovery period. As my surgeon (Dr Weiss) said, use it and she gets it.

How long after the procedure until you can...ahem...clean the pipes?

My doctor said 1 week but it’s been a week and I’m in no shape for it.

Definitely not rushing it.

My surgeon said 6 weeks, then to clean things out 6 times before providing a sample.

Really? 6 weeks makes WAY more sense. I just double checked and even the pamphlet they gave me says 1 week. They also said to "clean things out" 30 times before the sample.

The type of surgery done may also have an impact? (Not a medical Dr)

All I knew was neither my wife nor I wanted more kids (both very happy with 2), and me getting snipped was literally a 10 minute procedure and sitting at home with frozen peas on my junk. For women? Internal surgery that requires general anaesthesia.

Yeah. No regrets here.

Congrats Stele! Enjoy being lazy for awhile!

Yeah the sheet said 1 week. My doctor actually told me 3-4 days, if I felt up to it. Maybe he is confident in his ability, haha.

And the post-op sample seems to have a big range. The info I was told was either 30 ejaculations or 8-12 weeks, whichever is first.

And I have to set up an appt and collect the sample within an hour of dropoff. No pressure or anything, hah.

Trying to finish up Fenyx Rising and/or Nioh this weekend. Clear that pile.

Obviously everyone's bodies and experiences are different, but I can't imagine doing anything downstairs within a week of the procedure, let alone 3-4 days! I had a no-scalpel procedure and they told me 6 weeks, as well as 10 ejaculations before submitting a sample. YMMV.

Around two years later I have no regrets, and no additional children!

13 years here. Also no regrets and no oopses.

Well after 72 hours I'm starting to feel ok with just sitting. Still some discomfort when moving around, have to be careful. Glad I took a day off today too though.

The most painful thing that's happened all weekend? Sneezing. Ouch. Who knew?

Belated congrats, Stele.

Sneezing was my biggest post-op fear. I recall having a few close calls but a quick pinch of the nose did the trick. I also remember having a fair amount of bruising but that quickly faded.

Over seven years later, no pain, no regrets.

Recovery going well? Don’t rush it!

The first week sucked for me and the next couple were uncomfortable. I made the mistake of trying things out after 3 weeks and yeah bad idea for me.

I’m just past the 1 month mark now and I’m starting to do light exercise again. Really hesitant to rush things after that mistake at week 3.

Generally feeling way better now tho.

It's been 6 months since my consultation and hadn't heard anything back. Called today just to get any sort of update and was told that they aren't doing any right now and best estimate is probably 18 months out. I've also been put on a different doctor's list; one that is still doing vasectomies. I asked if I had to do the consultation all over again and they didn't know. As far as I'm concerned, I'm back at square one. I love living in Canada but this is one of those times where the myth you here south of the border about our healthcare is 100% true.

Dang that's crazy. I thought my 4 month wait was bad. But I could have got in in like 2 months if I'd went to another doctor at least.

Anyway another 3 or 4 weeks until I need to schedule to give a sample and get the all clear.

Likely related to health crunch from Covid and vasectomy being a low priority for overall health?
