NBA 2020-21 Season Catch-All

This is a really good bit by Kirk Goldsberry about Lillard’s range and how he built it. In the first couple of minutes there’s a couple of absolutely astonishing stats.

So the Raptors might actually be decent? I was worried about VanVleet as a lead guard on his own but the dude seems to have taken another step forward.

I've been seeking out Jazz highlights these past few weeks. That's one hell of a team this year.

I had full confidence in VaVleet but it was the rest of the roster that gave me pause. Lowry is another year older and really takes a beating. Siakam has really struggled to consistently find his game since the bubble and was even having some problems as a the #1 guy before that. Losing the Ibaka-Gasol hydra hurt more than I anticipated since Baynes has just not fit in.

The good news is Powell is finally healthy and finding his game again. Anunoby is a defensive force. Boucher, despite looking like he weighs 100lbs, has transformed into a legit threat. They look like a team with a lot of good complimentary pieces that need a star to coalesce around...ah haha ha.

Write-up from ESPN on Dame Lillard and his association with boxing.

So happy for Boucher's growth this year. I think it's also funny how the commentators always talk about him as a kid, or a young guy, but he's the third oldest player on the team at 28...

Masai sent Ibaka to LA to bring Kawhi back next year, right?

Yeah he seems so much older than he is because he didn't start college basketball until he was already 20 and did the full 4 years.

The next time they play the Clippers Ibaka and Kawhi will rip off their jerseys to reveal Raptor jerseys then put Paul George through a table.

Just change the name to Team Steph, please.

After seeing the dunk contest at halftime, Major League Baseball should hold the Home Run Derby rounds after the 3rd, 6th, and 9th innings of the All Star Game.

Yes.

Yes.

Delightful.

The behind-the-scenes Inside the NBA special that aired after the game last night was pretty fun.

Are you talking about the documentary about Inside the NBA? Do you know if there's a way to watch it if we missed it?

Yeah, The Inside Story. I didn't realize it was a four part show that actually started back on Thursday.

From what I found, no it isn't available anywhere legal after the fact. Speculation is it will go to HBO Max since they own TNT.

Yeah you roll that slur out I KNOW that you're racist as hell. That's an album cut slur. That's not even a hit single slur.

Hope for his sake he invested a good portion of his salary. Such garbage. The two things that make it even worse:

When you actually listen to it, he’s searching for the term. This wasn’t a slip.

His excuse is he didn’t know what it meant? Bullsh*t. 14 year olds maybe can get away with that. This guy is past 30 I believe.

In his meager defense, I am slightly amenable to the idea that he genuinely didn't know, because Call of Duty lobbies and FPSes in general have been literally awash in normalized bigotry for well over a decade now.

He genuinely might not have known it was that bad of a thing to say, since everyone in those spaces says it all the time!

(Hell, in light of this, I'd put $20 that CoD lobbies were just AWASH in anti-Semitism for the lulz tonight.)

Which, again, not to excuse him, but does make me shift my focus slightly to Activision.

"Join the Call of Duty community and learn every single ethnic slur ever with our players! It's like DuoLingo, but for racism and anti-Semitism!"

EDIT: I am genuinely curious to see if he has the best-selling NBA jersey in the league if the cancel culture warriors come to his defense, however. If he'd dropped an N-bomb, he definitely would, but I'm 50/50 with this one.

Counterpoint: Even if you assume he didn't know what that word meant, he is old enough and media-trained enough to not use an insult if he doesn't know what it is.

I had to check his basketball reference he's probably done.

Such a marginal player. Good. I'm sure teams can find a guy to ride the bench who's also not a distraction + clown.

Dude's basically just been walking salary filler the past few seasons.

As for his not knowing excuse, I call BS.

Listening to people on Xbox live is pure comedy. Especially people on COD. Some pretty strange and vulgar comments #MindBlown

Papa John has been free of saying the slurs for about a month, so he could be a mentor.

Video of Papa John kicking his habit:

(The 20 months part will be funny to me forever.)

Anyway, $50,000 and a one-week suspension.

Do I believe his apology?

It’s so ridiculous. I’m imagining frequent n words and he’s like, “Damnit, Papa John. You can do this! Time to reset the ‘days since the last n word’ clock”.

"Better ingredients, less n-words, Papa John's!"

20 months! He was "working on it" for 20 months!

People have literally kicked an addiction to opiates faster! The man needed Narcan for the n-word!
