Welcome folks, and happy “16th birthday of YouTube” week! It’s hard for me to believe that the platform is only 16 years old, considering how it has aged me by much, much more than that. Despite all the angry nerds and over-screaming Let’s Players, the total content is still estimated to be 90% cat videos, so it can’t be all bad. You may all celebrate by playing Cat Quest!

Fallen Legion: Revenants is a side-scrolling JRPG by Indonesian devs, YummyYummyTummy. It’s a sequel to 2017’s Fallen Legion, which was the first-ever Indonesian game on consoles. The combat system is a blend of turn-based tactics and timed counters, as is the style of many JRPGs these days.

Anodyne 2: Return to Dust is an indie Zelda-alike where you platform through a PS1-lookin’ overworld to find portals into pixelated, 2D dungeons. Naturally, this is best experienced on an Xbox Series X or PS5.

On the PC-only front this week, there’s Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron. You can cross “aerial dogfighting game” off the list of genres that haven’t been adapted to the Warhammer universe. I think the only ones left are “Dating sim” and “Fitness game.”

Annapurna Interactive Deluxe Limited Edition is a video game box set—with actual discs, artwork, and special features—to celebrate the 5th anniversary of publishers Annapurna Interactive. Included in the set are such cult darlings as: What Remains of Edith Finch, Kentucky Route Zero, Outer Wilds, and Wattam. Also, it’s the first appearance on PS4 of the mobile art-puzzler, Gorogoa and the FMV mystery game, Telling Lies. Rounding out the set, there’s Donut County and Sayonara Wild Hearts. If you feel you’ve missed out on the indie games scene over the last 5 years and want a well-curated bundle of acclaimed games to catch you up, then this is the bundle for you. Plus there’s enough extra features to make you sound like an expert who has closely followed the scene all along.

Steven Universe: Unleash the Light is a port of the mobile game onto consoles and Steam. It’s actually the third Steven Universe game and plays like an RPG-lite with the kind of turn-based, squad combat common to mobile games. My kids love Steven Universe because of its lore and fantasy sci-fi setting; I love it because the dad is voiced by Tom Scharpling and for its sneaky progressivism.

Speed Limit is an arcade experience that’s hard to sum up in a few sentences. Remember back in the 90s, when video game magazines came with a disk that contained a bunch of demos for games? Imagine a game made up of all of those demos put together. You start on a train, side-scrolling and fighting your way past soldiers. Then you jump into a car for a top-down racer. Then you find a motorbike and race from an over-the-shoulder view. And so on. The constant action, backed by a kickin’ soundtrack, carries you seamlessly between genres. It’s so crazy, it just might work. GOTW.

Steven Universe: Unleash the Light is looking interesting to me. I beat the first one a few years back on mobile and I own the second one on the PS4.

On the PC-only front this week, there’s Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron. You can cross “aerial dogfighting game” off the list of genres that haven’t been adapted to the Warhammer universe. I think the only ones left are “Dating sim” and “Fitness game.”

Did you check to make sure Dating sims and Fitness games hadn't been made for the 40k universe yet? Cause they probably have.

Fallen Legion: Revenants is on my shortlist. The demo added some nice changes to the formula, but I promised myself I'd finish the original before I spent $40 on this.

Speed Limit is insane, the controls are a bit wonky.

Speed Limit made my thumbs hurt. (My highest rating)

Maybe I should have said there's no LICENSED games in those genres.

Here's someone's crack at a Warhammer dating sim: http://atesdesigns.com/my-warmaster

As for a Warhammer fitness game, the closest I found was a dude who does situps & pushups during enemy turns in Total War: Warhammer II: https://steamcommunity.com/app/59457...
