Video Game Deals Catch-All

Epic Game Store will be giving away Rage 2 for free 18 - 25 Feb.

The other freebie next week, Absolute Drift, is way more interesting to me and I plan on playing it.

HumbleBundle is selling Mafia: Definitive Edition for $9.98, either a Steam or Epic key when you claim it.

Steam just kicked off their 2021 Lunar New Year sale. Thread here

...and Humble Bundle just started their's as well. Same thread as above.

Lunar New Year sale on UPlay. Assassin's Creed Chronicles China is free.

Not sure what the ACC series are, and there are Russia and India versions, but free is nice.

Fanatical has Dirt 4 for a dollar.

Side-scrollers with stealth, assassining, and combat stuff. I have yet to play one, but they do look fun.

One of this month's PS Plus games is 'Control', the ultimate edition.

For some reason, I'm surprised by that. It feels like a long time since PS Plus gave away a game that big and that recent.

I shall add it to my library.

I'm guessing they did it because it's on GamePass. Gotta compete!

I guess that's possible. Though I thought that Sony's current console strategy was not to compete directly with Game Pass.

I'm a little torn on Game Pass. On the one hand, I'm envious of the sheer volume of games that it makes available to subscribers. On the other hand, I am realistic about how little of that library I would actually play.

I can see a lot of Netflix content in 20 hours. I'd probably only be halfway through a modern open world game in the same amount of time. But I guess if I was 20 years old, and gaming every day then it would make more sense to me.

As things stand, PS Plus is sufficient for me... although I do wish they'd make more games like Control available more often.

Well it's interesting because Epic is over here giving 4-8 free PC games a month. Free and keep forever.

And PS+ is charging us $5 a month minimum (if you buy a whole year in advance) for only 2-3 games a month. And if you ever unsubscribe you lose those games until you resub.

As always, PC > console.

Don't pay their cheapest price when you can find psplus deals all year for $3X/year.

Games Pass has a lot of content. Perhaps too much content especially for time poor ageing gamers!

The solution: get both Epic for its free games, and Games Pass because it's quite economic if you're generally buying 1-2 expensive games a year. I say this from the comfort of my gaming PC though, so if you are a console gamer, YMMV.

If you play ps+ games it is worth. If you play game pass games it is worth it. If you aren't playing the games both are a waste of money. Epic is worth it even if you aren't playing the games since you are putting down any money,

Time is money. Imagine how much time you spent clicking those buttons to acquire games you aren’t playing

As for Gamepass, and psn plus, it is not like you have to keep subscribing for full years. If there are games you want to play, you can just subscribe until those are played. Seems more economical than being subbed because there might be a game later on.

Imo Psn plus has been kinda bad value ever since they made multiplayer part of it. They know they don’t need to offer much/anything to keep most of their subs I guess.

I have some sympathy with this view. Every year, I'm playing fewer and fewer games online as I get older, so I don't see as much value in paying for multiplayer.

However, I can also see that Sony need to cover the costs of all the PSN gubbins somehow. Subscription revenue has always been about covering the costs of the delivery mechanism as much as the costs of the content itself.

Let's see the lay of the land in a year or so, I expect Sony will have to respond if other subscription models gain traction. Though, of course, for every Game Pass there's a Stadia, no?

Counter point, I came to ps4 late and have more games than time. It's a great deal especially now with the ps5 collection I have a greatest hits of ps4. I don't think I'll be buying a game soon.

I agree the ps4 greatest hits collection is a great deal. Didn’t think of it since, well, the ps5 doesn’t actually exist!

Also a valid point.

An aside here. I have had to RECENTLY teach 3 friends how to claim their games on psplus. It is amazing how many have no clue you just add to library.

They are tech folks too!

I swear the tech savvyness of people in general is going down. I think the sheer ease of use of most tech has lowered those skills. Course I don't why to go back to the past days where everything was so damn fiddly. Maybe I'm just being old and grumpy. ..

No, that seems to be the case.
Some Gen X, Millennials, and some whatever after seemed to be above average by numbers since it was new and exciting. Seems to have returned to historical mean, but they know enough of current tech to survive.

That applies to any tech. My dad was a gear-head, mainly out of necessity to keep his 60s and 70s era cars functioning as he couldn't afford to pay someone. Today cars are reliable-enough that people don't need to own special tools such as filter and spark-plug wrenches, fiddle with carburetors, or make the time to change their own oil. All you need to do anymore is check your tire pressure and wear, and then obey your car when it tells you it needs maintenance. Cars are practically toasters.

Fenyx Rising is 40% off on the Ubisoft Store in a today-only flash sale.

Download for PC, physical for everything else. Gold edition also 40% off, but only for PC.

This just wrapped up a week of this being on sale on Xbox for 40% off, and it's currently 40% off on PSN. Most stores have had the physical editions at 50% off or so since November. Ubisoft is just dropping the price on this one like a stone.

I know that some people have a love for digital but the PS4 version on this sale is $35.99 but the physical version on Amazon is $29.99

And the PS4 version gets free PS5 upgrade.

Still playing and having fun with it

At this rate, it'll be $20 by April. I will buy it then, and it'll show up on Game Pass two weeks later.

Thank you for your sacrifice, Dyni. I look forward to playing it via Game Pass!

I want the Fenyx season pass, but the first drop seems meh.

It's also that tech is much more widespread. Everyone has a smart phone or tablet if not a laptop or desktop. It spans almost all demographics where as years ago you'd have a reason to buy a computer.
