Valheim - Valhallall, Meadhallall, Shieldwallall

We have a mixture of folks that are just popping on once every couple of days for an hour, and some folks that are hitting.... many more hours per day than that

There does seem to be a slight disconnect in that, e.g. killing the bosses, the trophy that you mount seems to be server-wide, even if the player wasn't there to help kill it. But at least they can be summoned multiple times for the loot to buil the antler pick, etc..

Still finding our feet, hit the Bronze age (well, two of us on the server have, the rest are just starting to look for caves), and yet to even think about sailing to another land. Much excite.

I picked up the game last night, logged in and ran around briefly to grab some wood/rocks/etc to make starting gear, when I ran across the first settlement that is really close to the initial spawn in. Their name starts with an R but I forget the rest, so could I ask anyone that isn't using the forum name to put their names below, so I can get an idea of who you are.

That was my house you ran across last night. My character's name is Reiyuka (which is what I always use for female characters) and I saw you running around my fenced area.

Recovering Ranalin's body last night was a really fun adventure I must say.

I played some solo since for some reason I could not get on Ran's server. If people look for rocks there are more on hills and near water.

Also I can not build anything (cause I'm bad at it) lol

I struggled to build a roof over a bed and when the game told me I needed one over the workbench I just took a break from the game lol

Been playing solo for about a day to get my feet wet and got a chance to look a the server tonight. I love it! The signs, the roads and layout etc. Can't wait to hop in tomorrow and plant some roots.

Same here, learning some things solo before I get online so I don't make too much of a fool of myself.

Due to the popularity of the game and the incoming variety of other survival games out there, we've created a dedicated #valheim discord channel and category on the GWJ discord server. Come on over!

Server machine has been upgraded and the new IP and port is as follows:

new IP 51.81.152.136:3957

New server is now up:

#GWJstanRag2
IP 51.81.152.139:4157

Is the new server a start-from-scratch? Wandering around the first one is a little intimidating.

Yes

I think this game kind of pushes a community centered style of play with resources like the items that are gated behind hard to get metals and the stone needed for smelters.

Oh thank god, I was building a dirt mound next to some giant houses and thinking maybe I bought in the wrong neighborhood. Still a newb myself.

Haha, same! I started on the new server last night. Thanks Ranalin for setting up/hosting the servers. If there's a way to donate to the cost, let me know.

So something to be aware of. It seems that resources like ore do no respawn. This will make it difficult over time to progress as servers get more populated and resources diminish.

I think I am going to put my character on a solo seed to progress, then come to the GWJ servers for co op boss fights and some crafting help.

You can carry what's in your inventory from server to server.

As of last night, the GWJStanRag2 server does not appear overpopulated. Plenty of resources to go around. Does anyone on server 2 have a cart I can borrow? I'm about to start wandering around looking for copper.

Everyone talking about this convinced me to pick it up. I spent the end of my evening last night figuring out how to setup a server and haven't actually figured out how to play the game!

I responded in Discord but will repost here...

We are NOT going to run out of resources any time soon. The starting island on Rag1 has a bunch of copper veins still around. This games not only requires, but demands exploration. For a point of reference pull up the map and scroll back. If you're still near the starting area you've only explored like .001% of the map

In regards to respawning, we're unsure on the copper. The general consensus is no, but some folks swear it does.
Flint and tin respawns over time

Playing on your own seed to bring over resources is a valid option, but very inefficient compared to using a cart and/or boat.

I normally decline to participate in Early Access, but seeing you guys having fun in this is too much.

Damn this game is rough at times. I found the swamp and now I need to see if I can get my stuff back.

Vikings? Survival? Crafting? Heck, yeah.

I just picked this up on Steam.

We went for a 'quick sail' this evening. A combination of terrible wind directions, annoyingly shaped islands that lured us in and then presented us with a dead end, and avoiding the Sea Serpents... 2 hours later we made it home, having accomplished nothing but a little sightseeing

We had some rough times

We had some peaceful times

And it tired us all out by the end

Ooo I like your chest orientation idea for more storage per sq ft

I picked this game up a couple of nights ago. I'd love to play with some people.

Added Ranalin's GWJ server info and Amoebic's instructions to the OP

After a couple of days with it, I think this game rocks! Relaxing music, neat building mechanics, and giant trolls that play baseball with your head... what's there not to like? So far, it's difficult to believe it's still in development.

response from support

Everything on the back end looks to be good and nothing is being taxed currently. It is possible the game is needing some optimization done by the developer. Currently we do not limit the amount of ram or cpu a server uses other than minecraft. Your server should use what it needs.

We had a good time on server 2 last night. Zeb, Cartoonin and I raided some troll dens and skeleton burial piles. We also were out in the Blank Woods at night and had to kill multiple greydwarf spawns and prob like a hundred greydwarf of various types. We were heading back to our safe house when joking occurred about how the other 2 dies multiple times and I did not die once. So what does Zeb do? When he gets to the house he starts cutting down trees in the dark. As I run up to house a giant rolling tree comes out of nowhere and kills me.

After that Dak joined the group and we did pretty well exploring. A group of 3 or 4 really helps out the battles

Picked up the game last night.

First death exploring with a friend - the dreaded tree. I cut down a huge tree, he told me to focus on the saplings. Little did I know that the next sapling I cut down was holding up this enormous tree I just cut down. It rolled over me and promptly squished me.

Second death - I built a raft. WE ARE CASTAWAY! Let's ride this North and see what happens. First thing, we hit the Black Forest. We are out in the middle of nowhere so whatever. Next we hit the ocean. We were doing relatively well until ... let's just say that you should not ride a raft out to the ocean. You are clearly not alone out there

We found a couple small tents and buildings, but I'm in the process of building up a pretty large place to call home. However, the roof is giving me some problems. I have the beams under the 26 degree roof but didn't get a chance to figure it all out before it got late last night.

One of my goals was to make a community house and a safe location from most of the critters of the night for the new players.

With massive amounts of help from NLink and Kazar and some others we now have a true 'long' house. It's a community area and we still need to do some landscaping and customization. It will eventually have all of our portals and upgraded crafting bench/forge.
