Biomutant Catch-All

Pages

I've been excited for this game for about 2 years now. It has been delayed numerous times and is being made by a small team in Sweden. It finally has a set release date of May, 25th!

It looks gorgeous and the customization is something I've never seen before. This has a lot of potential to be completely different and weird or fall flat on its face.

From the Steam page:

BIOMUTANT® is an open-world, post-apocalyptic Kung-Fu fable RPG, with a unique martial arts styled combat system allowing you to mix melee, shooting and mutant ability action.

A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided. Explore a world in turmoil and define its fate – will you be its saviour or lead it to an even darker destiny?

Key Features:

A NEW TAKE ON 3rd PERSON COMBAT
The martial arts style combat system allows you maximum freedom of movement and agility while mixing shooting, melee and powers from your mutations. Learning new Wung-Fu combat forms through progression and learning from masters you’ll meet, will constantly add to your choices and make sure combat never gets old.

EVOLVE YOUR GAME-PLAY
You’ll be able to re-code your genetic structure to change the way you look and play. This will of course affect your attributes and in addition to this, exposure to bio-contamination in the world will lead to mutations like the Turtleform and Mucus Bubble, while exposure to radioactivity found in bunkers from the old world will affect your mind and unlock psi-mutations like telekinesis, levitation and more.

NEXT LEVEL OF CRAFTING
You are totally free when crafting weapons. Mix and match parts to create your own unique 1H or 2H slash and crush weapons. Revolvers, rifles and shotguns and add modifications like cork-screws and battery-powered chainsaw modules to bio-contaminated sludge vials adding to your combat arsenal. There are even characters you’ll meet that’ll craft cool stuff for you, like bionic wings, a jump-pack and even let you modify your Automaton - the scrap-toy sidekick!

GEAR UP FOR ADVENTURE
You are totally free when equipping your character. Not only when it comes to choosing weapons you created, but what type of gear you wear. Equip a gas-mask and an oxygen tank for exploring the Dead Zones, thermos-resistant clothes for venturing into cryonic areas or protective gear for taking on bio-contaminated creatures, the choice is up to you.

SURVIVE IN A VIBRANT OPEN WORLD
You are free to explore the world and what lies beneath its surface, by foot, mech, jet-ski, air-balloon or area unique mounts. Explore the dying wildland, the tunnels and bunker networks of the underworld, and find your way up the mountains or out in the archipelago. There are lots of discoveries to be made, mysteries to unravel, creatures to confront and weird characters to meet in this vibrant and colorful world.

AN UNUSUAL STORY WITH AN UNUSUAL END
Your actions play a major part in the unfolding of a story where End is coming to the New World. A plague is ruining the land and the Tree-of-Life is bleeding death from its roots. The Tribes stand divided, in need of someone strong enough to unite them or bring them all down...
You are guided through the world by a Storyteller that narrates every step of your journey, but it’s your actions and choices that’ll decide how your story of survival ends.

Oh exciting! Glad it has a release date!

Oh yeah, I've had it on my Steam list for a long time. Kinda lost hope that it would ever be released. Excellent news!

My goodness that looks friggin great! Will potentially grab this on PS5 at the end of May then.

Please let it be polished and good!

Yep! This has been on my watch list for a while and I love the aesthetic and the setting equally.

I won't pre-order, but I am keeping my eyes/ears open for reviews and will act accordingly.

Great news! I've also been interested in this game for a few years. Glad to hear it's coming out soon!

What is this game? The game play trailer makes it look like a mix between Ghost of Tsushima - A Pixar Movie - Monster Hunter!?

It looks like a game that can only disappoint. Hopefully it somehow manage to deliver on all the potential it is showing.

It is coming from publisher THQ Nordic, so chances are it is VERY mid-tier. Here's an article talking about how the last year or so was just bug fixes and the dev team is only 20 people.

I'd say set expectations low, but it should be pretty fun for what it is. I'm personally putting it in the Darksiders (also published by THQ Nordic) camp. Sure it will be inferior mechanically and systems-wise to all the things that are like it, but it is sure a lot more fun to look at.

I thought this was a Dark Souls like at some point. Looks like it had some changes. The whole Kung Fu angle wasn’t in the initial reveal.

A lot of the animations and modeling look surprisingly primitive. The wings-from-nowhere, for instance, let either parts of his body or his gear clip through. And there were numerous times that the fight scenes reminded me a little of Brutal Legend, which was made a long, long time ago. I'm not sure why, exactly, but there was something about the way the smaller characters moved that felt very BL-like. Not that that was a bad game or anything, but it's pretty low-tech now.

That's one I'll be waiting on reviews for, I think. There is a distinct possibility that it could suck terribly.

Here's a 15-minute-long video with lots of information about Biomutant, in case you have some free time and nothing else to do:

Here's another video!

It's weird that there's no way to digitally pre-order the game. I wasn't planning on pre-ordering anyway.

Extra time to polish seems to be paying off. I have no hope it'll be a AAA title, but a quality AA is more than welcome.

I just hope it's not super janky as it looks fantastic!

It feels very much like a game I will let one of you try first. let me know if it is good!

I am awash in AA games this year and it's a lot of fun (XCOM: Chimera Squad and Outriders very soon). Just need Spiders' and Pirhana Bytes next janky as games to come out and I'm all set.

Its a steep £54.99 on the PS Store, expected more a £34.99 type of price. Unless the reviews are absolutely fantastic across the board I'll wait for it to go on sale. I really hope its great though.

GMG is offering a 27%-off voucher but even with that it's a $44CAD game. I'm excited to see what the game is but am so nervous about the potential bugs or systems just not coming together.

That looks like it could be pretty cool.

I could see myself spending 10 hrs in the character creator

Yeah no kidding! Hope there is a lot of replay baked in to try the new classes and different races!

Here's a detailed look at the character creator:

Biomutant's Game Length Revealed By Developer

But while the story details may be thin on the ground, the length of Biomutant certainly is not. Speaking to GamingBolt, director Stefan Ljungqvist has revealed that Biomutant can offer players more than 65 hours of gameplay if they decide to follow side quests and take time to explore the game's open world biomes. For those players who wish to get from start to finish as quickly as possible, however, Ljungqvist stated that Biomutant could be completed in 12–15 hours. To do this, though, players would have to skip dialogue, and focus their attention exclusively on the main body of Biomutant’s narrative. According to Ljungqvist the game’s total length “, really depends on what type of player you are.”

In addition to that, they dev team confirmed there will be NG+ included to allow you to continue playing the game.

From the wiki for those that weren't sure what NG+ is (including me)

"A New Game Plus, also New Game+, (NG+) is an unlockable video game mode available in some video games that allows the player to start a new game after they finish it at least once, where certain features in NG+ not normally available in a first playthrough are added, or where certain aspects of the finished game affect the newly started game, such as keeping in the new game items or experience gained in the first playthrough. New Game Plus is also known as "replay mode", "remorting", "challenge mode", or "New Game Ex". The genre where they are most prevalent is role-playing video games."

I should be able to get around 55-60 hours out of this, since I am not a completionist, but I do tend to do the vast majority of side missions and listen/watch the dialogue cut scenes on the first play through. Who am I kidding, it's incredibly rare for me to replay a single player game after I have already defeated it, so "only playthrough" is the most likely scenario.

Yyyyuuupppp. Although I am a completionist (except for achievements) so I'll wring even a little bit more out of it. I do have a rich vein of Subnautica: Below Zero to get through before Biomutant, however.

The vast majority of time, I am not able to play through a single player game again but there has been games where certain weapons, abilities or skills are made available very close to the end of the game where I was wishing it was introduced earlier. Too early to tell with this game whether that is the case or not but it's nice to have the option to replay with what your finished the game with.

I do dig the character builder and some of the classes are disparate enough that I can envision doing at least a partial secondary run through just to try out some new attacks, etc.
