The man's got great presence. I remember thinking so waaaaay back during the original Mummy movie.

Saaaaaaame. Though “presence” was probably not the term I used at the time.

I don’t know about this one honestly. “Perimenopausal”, I mean... really?

I think that's there because the original poster on Facebook was poking fun at herself

I finally caught up on the last two episodes last night. I'm still enjoying the overall series, liking the main characters, and the interesting settings and dilemmas. In the end bad Trek is still Trek. And any Trek is good Trek.

I agree with most of the posters that there isn't enough time spent on developing the supporting characters. I struggle to remember their names most of the time.

The turbo lift scene felt like a mashup of the door warehouse scene in Monsters Inc., and the obstacle course Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver navigate in Galaxy Quest.

I doesn't fully line up since Discovery was a 23rd century ship and I doubt that they retrofitted it that much, but it at least makes me cringe a bit less.

31st century is roughly 100 years before this. During the peak of the Temporal Cold War. Presumably, it is also before the Burn. We're looking at the technology of a fully capable, developed society, presuming the Federation and Starfleet are still the same kinds of organizations (DISCO annoyingly uses them interchangeably). Somehow, I don't think a cluster of ships in hiding has the same kind of scientific resources available to them to build something like this, let alone in the brief time they took to refit Discovery.

We're also told that the computer systems, which Burnham restores, are running on the OS version prior to the refit, meaning that data core is the same one DISCO has always had.

Nah, it's still just poorly considered continuity. Abrams-brain about scale. His time with the franchise has left an indelible disrespect for such things.

I think it's canonically possible, I just don't know why they did it. It's such a big thing, and there's really no thematic or functional reason for it. The action scene on its own wasn't cool enough to justify it.

They better have a logical explanation for the cause of this anomaly rather than re-using what they came up with for last seasons anomaly.

Digging the new uniforms.

Sigh... another “mystery”

I'm cool with Burnham being a central Kirk-like figure, but I'm heartily tired of the series basically revolving around one person. I'm hoping for a wider, more ensemble focus for the upcoming season.

Also, as someone in a military service that basically had the same uniforms since World War 2 and then started changing them every five years along with the other services, I feel the pain of all the crewmembers who need to keep buying new uniforms.

I read tweets during the live stream that the reason they changed up the uniforms for Season 4 was because they realized gray didn't work that well in front of the walls of the ship's sets.

Yeah that was a problem with the first season. I was wondering who the cyborg looking woman was and I'm not sure they even said her name the first 5 episodes. Then suddenly we get an episode all about her... and I'm supposed to care... because she's been such a part of the crew the whole time? Bah

Yeah, the new uniforms look great. I'm glad they realized their mistake with the dull grey uniforms and changed it up.

For "reasons" - neither the Discovery Season 4 trailer, nor the Picard Season 2 trailer (Q returns!) are available on a legitimate platform outside of the USA as far as I can tell

However there are approximately 170,000 preview, review, "10 Easter eggs you missed in the latest Star Trek trailer!" videos plastered all over YouTube / video platform of your choice.

Try these:

Picard S2: https://twitter.com/startrek/status/...
Lower Decks S2: https://twitter.com/StarTrek/status/...
Discovery S4: https://twitter.com/StarTrek/status/...
"Woman In Motion" (Nichelle Nichols Documentary): https://twitter.com/StarTrek/status/...

Thanks, those worked for me.

Yippee, a new Discovery mystery. Get ready for an uninteresting story with a really disappointing reveal.

Looking forward to Picard but 2022 is so far away.

Really excited for Strange New Worlds.

The new eps have never been available in the US anyway on Netflix..

I'm wearing a discovery combadge right now!

Yes, that is what I said.

Yes, but it's getting pulled from Netflix in those countries outside the U.S. where it always HAS been available on Netflix.

Days before the new season.

In countries that can't access Paramount+.

Leaving nuTrek fans in those countries with no legal avenue for watching the show.

It's a bad sign for live-action Trek when I walk away from probably one of the better episodes of DSC's 32nd Century run and their best season premiere to date thinking, "Okay, how they going to botch the landing later in the season this time?"

Yeah it was a really fun episode that only HINTED at a bigger thing at the end. I'd prefer this weekly bit of business like this first episode, but they'll likely get swept up in the arc like they always do.

I felt like they botched that first episode. Cool special effects, boring story and lots of scenes that were cringe worthy.

Also, only Michael Burnham can save the day. Again.

I'm hoping the president giving her a talking-to at the end of the episode sticks.

Spoiler:

Probably not. They'll probably find some way to validate Burnham's pathological need to be the solver of all problems. And the president will say, "oooh, I was so wrong." God forbid they do something complex with a character. Make her suffer a loss because of her hubris. Make her fail to solve a problem on her own, and need her crew to do their thing. And for f*ck's sake, stop grinning all the goddamn time.

I have started re-watching TNG on Netflix (Indonesia) and I am so impressed with how heavy it is with dialogue, character growth and world (as in Star Fleet, not planet of the week) building consistency. Discovery seems like the Burnham SFX hour. I'm not saying TNG was without flaws but I am really enjoying it.

The thing is, I really liked Burnham at the start, but just the relentless putting her at the front and center of every story and always rescuing the day, its really turned me off.

I'm worried that whole speech from the president was setting up some huge loss for both Burnham and us. I think these f*ckers are gonna kill Saru.
