[News] Post a D&D Picture

Previous incarnations of Cleveland/P&C/D&D have had an image thread, to handle political cartoons and other image-based stuff that doesn't belong in the general post-a-picture threads.

If any of them spawn an extended discussion, please spawn it off into its own thread. Replies to non-picture replies should take the form of a link pointing to a post on a different discussion thread.

And I shouldn't have to say it, but the images still need to abide by the rules.

Ok, this strategy pisses me off, though. Because that first tweet is the only one the people who are arguing against socialism will see or spread.

The account name at the top of the tweet includes the word "satire".

Do you think they'll care?

Yes?

If something is clearly labeled satire, and you send it to your friends saying it's real, they're going to mock the sh*t out of you, no?

You have a lot more confidence in the people interested in sharing stuff like that than I do. I would be surprised if most of them knew what satire was, let alone even noticed it up there once they saw it confirmed what they wanted to believe.

I take your point, but what's the alternative? No satire allowed at all to protect stupid people from themselves?

Like, that's the most responsible way to present satire. "This joke is satirical: [JOKE]". You're clueing the audience in before delivering the satire.

Well, my point is more about how that's Twitter. A satire site, for example, could keep the joke whole, whereas Twitter, and MSDNC's chosen usage of it, allows the credulous to share the wrong part and ignore the "correction" part.

That's a criticism of the internet in it's entirety though, no? Cherry pick what you like from all the information that exists.

I mean, that's true of just about everything, but the Twitter model, especially how they've formed this tweet, makes it ready-made cherry picking. It's one click to share complete disinformation with no extra steps. Yeah, it's satire, but they should know better.

I can't believe I have to explain this in this much detail

People arguing against "OMG! The SOCIALISMS!" don't give a f*ck about facts, true or otherwise. We shouldn't cater to people who act in bad faith, it is a waste of time and energy.

I'm recalling that article that was linked here recently. The fascist only cares about facts as long as those facts give them more power. Once they no longer give them power, they change to a new set of facts.

You are not going to educate that kind of person about satire. The only way to stop them is to deplatform them. (see: Parler)

Or just invent crap out of whole cloth and claim that they're facts.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I should have quoted "facts."

There's something almost comic, or at least absurd, about seeing these young Americans sprawled about the Capitol. Then one remembers that they're there to protect the Capitol and the Congress from other Americans, and those other Americans are being encouraged by the President.
