NFL 2020: The playoff thread

The Browns are clearly just furious at the Steelers organization for sitting starters and allowing them to win and get into the playoffs. Stefanski is making it perfectly clear that the Browns will never ever make the playoffs on his watch.

Are we entirely sure he was racing and not just trying to get the hell away from the Factory of Sadness as fast as possible before COVID got him?

Yeah, outrunning COVID was the first place my mind went too.

Then I actually read the article and saw this bit:

He (Higgins) also posted he "was tryna get away from Covid," before deleting that tweet, as well.

The mad lad.

Guys, I'm as funny as as wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns.

I am not necessarily happy about this in any way.

Can you catch passes? We could’ve used you against the Jets. The way things are going, we may need you against the Steelers

I get on Andy Reid but if the Chiefs host the AFC championship game this season they will be the only AFC team to accomplish that 3 straight seasons. It was also accomplished once in the NFC by Reid when he coached the Eagles.

I would have guessed the Patriots but I guess they never did 3 in a row.

Some guy named Lawrence to enter the draft.

Was kinda hoping for a longer drawn out process so we could torture Legion.

Shucks.

I hope Jordan Love is your Bortles.

PFT's Mike Florio ranks the available HC openings. He sticks with the conventional wisdom of Chargers first (bc Herbert) and Jags second (for reasons? I dunno; Legion's fandom is oddly overlooked).

The LOL bit: He has Texans, Lions and Falcons ranked below Wait Till Next Year.

I am sure he is. And I look forward to Wentziana taking off.

Rodgers is going to play until he's 45 and for the Packers! Or that's what I'm going to keep telling myself until otherwise.

Putting it out there now: 2022, the Packers cut Rodgers loose ($17m in dead money, $22.6m cap savings) to open the path for Love, Vikings cut Cousins loose ($10m dead money, $35m cap savings), and Rodgers is wearing purple just like Favre before him.

Spoiler:

Gaze upon it and despair

While we wait for Aaron Rodgers drama, we have Deshaun Watson drama.

I get Watson being frustrated with Houston in general, as they have wasted years of his talent, but a QB is not part of the GM hiring process, and it's a ridiculous thing to expect.

Granted, it probably wouldn't crack the top 5 of recent ridiculous decisions made by the Houston Texans of late, but you don't fix dysfunction with more dysfunction.

Not that Watson has anything to worry about. I'm sure Caserio will continue the proud tradition of performance by ex-Belichick Patriots executives becoming GMs, like, uh... Scott Pioli... Jason Licht... Bob Quinn... ugh what was I saying? Oh! Jon Robinson! A success case! There is hope Houston!

Deshaun Watson is a great qb. I probably don't appreciate him enough considering there's been a recent crop of good young QBs that distract from what he can do.

I'd be pretty peeved if I lost Hopkins also.

The horror. Definitely needed to be spoilered as that's NSFW.

If Rodgers did go his own way I'm not exactly sure where the least painful place would be. LA Chargers maybe. Far off to the AFC and a non offending franchise (imo). I could even cheer him on from afar. Kinda rooting for Justin Herbert though.

Maybe I'll compile a list in reverse order one day but it would probably start right away NFC North. Patriots/Indy/TB/Raiders/Denver. Cowboys. f*ck the whole NFC East even. After those I start to become very indifferent.

He needs to wear green for a year as penance first.

I dunno, Browns may be fed up with Baker’s cooking at that point. Maybe some orange in his future?

Updated list of Browns players and coaches on the COVID list.

This reminds me of something I wrote during preseason 2019:

*Legion* wrote:

Browns fans are numb to pain. The football gods dropped 0-16 on them and they just tanked the damage.

The only way to hurt Browns fans is to give them hope, let them have just enough success to open up their shells, and then the football gods can smite the sh*t out of them again.

If you asked me before this season to imagine a scenario that could actually make Browns fans feel despair again, it would probably have been, "make the playoffs and then immediately have COVID clobber the sh*t out of them".

It's not just the players that they're missing that hurts, but they're not even able to practice. Baker's commented to the press that he's not thrown a football all week.

His team is about to land Trevor Lawrence, the real Legion is making himself known now.

Legit question:

Do the Browns have any offensive coaches left for this weekend?

Well, the acting HC is Mike "Nuke the Gays" Preifer, and our playcaller is Alex Van Pelt.

I'm not cheering for the football gods to continue oppressing the Browns, I'm just documenting the occurrence from afar.

As as matter of fact, I'm pretty much pulling for the Browns to win this game in spite of all of this. That would easily be the most fun playoff timeline.

I kind of feel like, as a Browns fan, you kind of signed up for this sort of thing a long time ago.

I wish I could go back and tell my younger self the same thing about the Jags.

"Just cheer for the Niners, stop being a whiny Female Doggo about them trading Montana, you haven't experienced real football pain, you don't know what you're about to do."

My parents moved to Tampa back in late 1991; I may have told them more than once how much better my life would have been as a sports fan if they'd gone to Boston instead.
