Hidden Gems of Netflix's Watch Instantly

Requoting this because it's so, so, so, so important, and we're not seeing enough discourse on the topic.

Totally agree!

Prospect was interesting. It has a very meandering pace, so you may not be able to hang on until the interesting parts (I actually fell asleep during the first 15 minutes). But it's classic hard sci-fi crossed with a western, and I think it's worth powering through some of the slower moments. Pedro Pascal is great in it, and the lead actor--Sophie Thatcher--is a future star.

Ooh new Sabrina

It's got some fun cameos towards the end of the season.

Same. Depressing though.

Well we finished all of community. I can’t believe I slept on this for so long series 1-3 are masterpieces. Yes there’s a drop off after that and no one could replace Donald Glover but it still had moments of genius. It’s become one of my favourite sitcoms. Troy and Abed in the morning forever!

It really came together in the end. But no, I didn't feel happy when it was over.

I stand by that final episode as being one of the great finales. It is hindered by not having the entire gang involved. But that helps its point at times too, I'd argue. I love that series so much.

I talked to my neighbor who watched and something I missed but he said

Spoiler:

That there were already a group of colonists on the planet. I thought they were just there to investigate it so it would just be them on the planet.

There was a thread here. We were raving about it every week, for 6 years.

Still waiting on the movie.

We finished up Alice in Borderlands. I don’t think I enjoyed it as much as some others here. Probably a 7 out of 10 for me. First few episodes were good but then it started to try to explain things and it all went a bit “Lost” for me.

Yeah, I stopped enjoying it so much after they went to the Beach. Also, I found the antagonists 2D and very annoying. Maybe that was the point.

Midnight Sky was well acted, competently put together and directed and really rather dull. It wasn’t bad by any means, it was just a touch predictable and I struggled to maintain that much interest to the end.

HISTORY OF SWEARING WITH NIC CAGE IS GOOD.

Spoiler:

time stopped making sense early into the pandemic

I watched the first episode yesterday night. At the end of that day in particular it felt very appropriate to watch people saying f*ck over and over again.

I moved to the Oregon Coast recently and started working a marine retail job, and it's SO REFRESHING for everyone around me to swear like normal humans. I love it. #sailormouth

I thought there was an obvious omission. Maybe series 2?

I love Lupin. This is coming from someone who has watched a fair amount of Lupin III anime.

I thought the show had nothing to do with the anime except the main characters are both thieves.

I think they both come from a French character back in the day?

Yep, Arsène Lupin

Star Trek Discovery season 3 finished. I didn't like it. It seemed like in every episode characters were having emotional speeches and being on the verge of tears, kinda like a sopa opera. At one point at the end, we're supposed to care about the fate of a few people from the crew, but, apart from Tilly, everyone has a paper thin personality and we don't know anything about them, so it just doesn't land. And boy, I truly disliked Michael. Still a rogue in the 3rd season and then making a hypocritical decision by the end and, despite that, she's rewarded.
The first 2 seasons were really entertaining, but this last one really soured the whole series for me.

Well I did like it. Check and mate. Mate.

Finished watching Teenage Bounty Hunters, a pretty entertaining comedy about teenage twins navigating school, religion, and life while also helping track down bail skippers. Pretty silly concept but it manages to work and be pretty funny. Unfortunately it was cancelled this year after COVID hit so it looks like we won’t get anymore. Still worth watching, though.

Sweet Home is a Korean TV series that's probably the closest thing we have to a Left4Dead show. (The quality of the CGI is also comparable to a video game from 12 years ago.)

Cobra Kai S3 was a bit of a letdown. It lacked the spark of the earlier seasons, or maybe the novelty has worn off. It wasn't bad, just not very funny or surprising.

CKS3 felt as cheasy and campy as the first two. Nothing will top the hight school brawl from last season, and still love the love/hate/pity/cheer-for feeling-combo I have for Johnny Lawrence.
